No sequel to Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine is confirmed in the official material reviewed. That also means there is no confirmed sequel release window, plot, or character roster. The announced game is a standalone Logan story for PS5, with Team X—not the X-Men—at the center of its mutant storyline.

Is there a sequel to Marvel’s Wolverine?

As of October 4, 2026, PlayStation and Insomniac’s official materials reviewed for this article do not announce a sequel. They also do not establish whether one is planned. A lack of an announcement is not confirmation that a sequel has been cancelled—or that one is in development.

The confirmed game is Marvel’s Wolverine, a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure by Insomniac Games, Marvel Games, and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sony identifies it as a worldwide PlayStation 5 exclusive. Its story follows Logan as he searches for answers about his past; it is described as an original interpretation, not as an X-Men team game. PlayStation’s official game page and gameplay reveal breakdown provide the confirmed details.

Accordingly, no official information supports claims about a sequel’s characters, setting, platform, or release date. Any proposed sequel roster is speculation, not an announced cast.

Marvel's Wolverine PS5
  • Marvel’s Wolverine is a new action-packed adventure from Insomniac Games
  • Play as Wolverine and Ravage enemies with explosive brutality and unleash razor-sharp adamantium claws to deploy fast, fluid attacks and overcome impossible odds
  • An Original, Emotionally Charged Story. Beneath Wolverine’s gruff exterior and violent temperament is a man fighting for a cause greater than himself
  • A Global, Adrenaline-Fueled Journey where you slice into enemies across detailed locales such as the frosted Canadian Wilderness, the narrow streets of Tokyo, and the high and low districts of the island nation of Madripoor

Are the X-Men in the new Wolverine game?

Not as the team at the center of this game’s story. In a D23 interview, narrative director Walt Williams put it plainly: “In Marvel’s Wolverine, there are no X-Men.” The mutant group the story focuses on is Team X, and the setting is one in which mutants are not broadly known. That statement describes this game; it does not rule out an X-Men story in a future, unannounced project. Read the D23 interview.

Which characters are confirmed in Marvel’s Wolverine?

Official materials identify several characters and factions in the game’s story. Their presence in this game should not be treated as evidence of a sequel lineup.

Character or group What official materials establish
Logan / Wolverine The protagonist. He returns to Team X three years after leaving and searches for answers about his past. (PlayStation game page; gameplay reveal breakdown)
Jean Grey Confirmed as a powerful telekinetic and an emerging leader among captured mutants. (PlayStation gameplay reveal breakdown)
Team X The mutant task force Logan rejoins after leaving three years earlier. Williams describes it as a mutant strike force founded by Nathaniel Essex; members resent Logan’s unexplained departure. (PlayStation gameplay reveal breakdown; D23 interview)
Bolivar Trask and the Reavers Identified as threats in the mutant-hunting plot. (PlayStation gameplay reveal breakdown)
The Hand and Deathstrike Called out in the official story trailer. (Official story trailer)
Mystique and Sabretooth Identified in PlayStation’s official materials in the game’s cast and Team X context. This does not establish that either would appear in a sequel. (PlayStation gameplay reveal breakdown)

What is Team X?

Team X is the mutant strike force at the heart of the game’s setup, not another name for the X-Men. Williams says Wolverine has been a member “as far back as he can remember—literally.” In the story, Logan returns three years after walking away, while the team is dealing with a crisis as mutants are hunted. The official premise places Bolivar Trask and the Reavers among the threats.

Do you need to read the Wolverine prequel comic?

No. The game’s premise and character story are described in PlayStation’s official materials; the comic is optional context. The official prequel, written by narrative director Walt Williams with art by Luke Ross, covers events leading into the game and Logan’s strained relationship with Team X. PlayStation says it can be read through Marvel Unlimited; check the service for current access terms. PlayStation’s story details discuss the comic.

Where does the confirmed game take place?

PlayStation names the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo, and Madripoor among the game’s settings. These are locations in Logan’s original story, not confirmed settings for any future project. Williams describes the game as “a wholly original story that would surprise even the most hardcore Wolverine fan”; that is his characterization of the story, rather than a promise about a sequel.
