In its December 18, 2025 Update 242 changelog, the team said it had reviewed the anti-cheat and DLC checks for both Steam and Epic. The post does not identify the anti-cheat technology or explain exactly what it detects.
What the developer confirms
In the Update 242 changelog, dated December 18, 2025, OVERKILL’s PAYDAY 2 development team wrote: “We’ve taken a careful look at the anti-cheat and DLC checks for both Steam and Epic platforms and have been hard at work making sure you get what you own.”

This is direct evidence that the game has anti-cheat-related functionality on both platforms. The sentence discusses anti-cheat and DLC checks together and frames the work around players receiving content they own. It does not provide a technical description of the checks or say that they cover every form of cheating.
Which anti-cheat system does PAYDAY 2 use?
The Update 242 post does not name a third-party anti-cheat service such as BattlEye or Easy Anti-Cheat, and it does not say that PAYDAY 2 uses Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC). Valve’s VAC Support page describes VAC generally; it does not establish that PAYDAY 2 is VAC-secured. The Steam listing for PAYDAY 2 confirms the game’s Steam release and features, but it is not confirmation of VAC protection.

So the supported answer is that PAYDAY 2 has anti-cheat checks—not that it uses a particular named system.
What is known about bans and enforcement?
OVERKILL discussed cheating and punishment in older posts, but those statements are historical rather than a current, complete account of enforcement.

- On January 27, 2014, OVERKILL published a further reminder about cheating and forum policy. That post describes community moderation, not a comprehensive or current explanation of in-game penalties. It is available as the 2014 forum-policy reminder.
Neither old post establishes what happens in every present-day case, whether a particular penalty is permanent, or how Update 242’s checks work.
