At Ubisoft’s September 30, 2026 general shareholders’ meeting, CEO Yves Guillemot said the franchise might be “potentially remade” someday, while also saying it had not been prioritized against the company’s other brands. The wording describes a possibility, not a confirmed project.
What Ubisoft said about a Watch Dogs remake
Asked why Watch Dogs was not included among Ubisoft’s creative houses, CEO Yves Guillemot said the brand had not been used much, used an engine different from Anvil and Snowdrop, and had not received priority compared with the company’s other brands. He added that Ubisoft still considers it important for the future.

“It’s not expected to put it in a creative house for the moment before it’s potentially remade.”
That is conditional language. Guillemot did not announce approval, production, a development team, a release window, or a remake. The next speaker in the meeting transcript is CFO Frédérick Duguet; the statement above is Guillemot’s.

Why people say Watch Dogs has gone six years without a launch
The six-year framing counts from Watch Dogs: Legion, the latest released main-series entry named in Ubisoft’s materials. Ubisoft’s 2024 film announcement lists three games and their release years:

The six-year interval is a comparison between Legion’s 2020 release year and 2026; it does not mean Ubisoft promised a 2026 game. Ubisoft identifies Legion as the franchise’s third entry on its Watch Dogs franchise page. The original game’s worldwide release date was May 27, 2014, according to Ubisoft’s release-date announcement.
What Watch Dogs fans can play now
The established games remain the available path into the series: Watch Dogs, Watch Dogs 2, and Watch Dogs: Legion. The first follows Aiden Pearce in Chicago and centers on hacking the city’s central operating system with a smartphone. Ubisoft describes the later games as set in San Francisco and London; Legion’s defining mechanic lets players build a roster of resistance members from across London.

Ubisoft’s franchise page says the first Watch Dogs had “more than 40 million players worldwide.” The page does not date that figure, so it should not be read as a current active-player count.

Ubisoft announced on June 5, 2024, that Tom Blyth and Sophie Wilde had been cast in a Watch Dogs film with an original story set in the game universe. The announcement said production was slated to begin later that summer, but gave no release date. It does not establish that the film has since been released.
