What this file actually does
The name jfmp3rd.dll is associated with “MP3 Reader for jetAudio.” It is a Win32 application DLL developed by JetAudio, Inc. and used by the desktop jetAudio media player to read MP3 audio.
That makes the diagnosis relatively direct:
- It belongs to jetAudio, not Windows.
- It normally belongs inside the jetAudio installation folder or one of its subfolders.
- It should not be copied into
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64. - It is identified in public file metadata as a 32-bit component, but an official JetAudio architecture record for every release is not available.
- Older jetAudio releases are more likely to encounter compatibility problems on current Windows versions.
- Not every jetAudio release can be confirmed to contain the exact same file.
The official JetAudio download page provides the current desktop release and an older Retro release. JetAudio warns that the Retro version may not work correctly on modern Windows, so choosing the release that matches the application you are trying to preserve matters.
Causes by symptom
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| The error appears when jetAudio starts | Damaged or incomplete jetAudio installation | Reinstall the matching jetAudio package |
| The error started after antivirus activity | The DLL may have been quarantined | Check Windows Security Protection history |
| The file disappeared after disk cleanup | Cleanup removed an application file | Reinstall jetAudio from the official source |
| The file exists but jetAudio will not launch | Version mismatch, permissions, or legacy compatibility | Reinstall the complete package and test compatibility settings |
| The error appeared after moving to another PC | The old program was copied without all dependencies | Install jetAudio properly on the new computer |
| Several unrelated programs report Windows DLL errors | Broader Windows corruption may be involved | Run DISM and SFC after checking the application |
| You no longer use jetAudio | A leftover startup entry may be calling the file | Uninstall jetAudio instead of restoring the DLL |
The exact wording varies. Common messages include:
- “This application failed to start because jfmp3rd.dll was not found.”
- “The file jfmp3rd.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: jfmp3rd.dll.”
- “Error loading jfmp3rd.dll.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because jfmp3rd.dll was not found.”
These messages identify a failed dependency, not necessarily the original cause.

Fix 1: Reinstall jetAudio from the official source
This is the most reliable fix because the file belongs to jetAudio. A complete reinstall restores the matching executable, DLLs, codecs, and configuration files together.
Before uninstalling
If you use jetAudio for playlists, presets, recordings, or custom media folders, back up those personal files first. Uninstalling the application should not be treated as a substitute for backing up personal data.
Also note which jetAudio release is installed:
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for jetAudio.
- Record the displayed application name and version if Windows shows one.
Remove the damaged installation
- In the same Installed apps list, select the three-dot menu beside jetAudio.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the uninstall wizard.
- Restart Windows.
If jetAudio is not listed, look for its original uninstaller:
- Press Windows key + E.
- Check the usual installation locations, such as
C:Program FilesorC:Program Files (x86). - Open the jetAudio folder if it remains.
- Look for an uninstall program and run it.
- Restart Windows.
Do not delete a folder blindly if it contains recordings or other personal media.
Recommended Free Tools
Install a matching official release
- Open a browser and go to the official JetAudio website.
- Open its Download page.
- Choose the regular jetAudio release when you need a current installation.
- Choose the Retro release only when preserving an older setup is necessary.
- Download the installer directly from JetAudio.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation without mixing files from another jetAudio version.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch jetAudio from the Start menu.
Check the result
The repair worked if jetAudio opens without the jfmp3rd.dll message and can load an MP3 file.
If the same error returns immediately, do not copy a DLL into a Windows folder. Continue with the quarantine and compatibility checks below. The installer may be incomplete, the file may be removed again by security software, or the old release may not be compatible with the current Windows installation.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
An old application DLL can be quarantined by security software. That does not prove the detection is a false positive. Verify the installer’s source before restoring anything.

Review Protection history
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the Windows Security app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Look for an event mentioning jetAudio or
jfmp3rd.dll. - Expand the event and review its path, detection name, and action.
If the item was quarantined:
- First confirm that jetAudio came from the official JetAudio installer.
- Do not restore a file obtained from an unknown source.
- If the installer is trustworthy and Windows Security offers Restore, follow the on-screen confirmation.
- Reinstalling the complete official package is usually safer than restoring one isolated file.
- Run a full scan if the file was found outside the jetAudio installation directory.
Do not disable antivirus protection merely to make a downloaded DLL work. If protection history shows repeated removal after an official reinstall, submit the installer or detection details through Microsoft’s security reporting process or contact JetAudio support.
Fix 3: Confirm the file path and architecture
A file with the correct name can still be the wrong file. Mixing files from different jetAudio releases can produce a new loading error instead of fixing the original one.
Find the jetAudio executable
- Press Start.
- Search for jetAudio.
- Right-click the result.
- Select Open file location.
- Right-click the shortcut in the folder that opens.
- Select Open file location again if it is another shortcut folder.
- Locate the jetAudio executable and inspect its surrounding folders.
The expected jfmp3rd.dll, when present, should be in the same jetAudio installation tree or a program subfolder used by that executable. It does not need to be registered globally in Windows.
Because public metadata identifies this component as Win32, a 32-bit jetAudio installation should receive the DLL supplied with that same 32-bit package. Do not replace it with a 64-bit file, or with a file taken from another release.
If the file is present but jetAudio still reports it as missing:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Right-click the jetAudio shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Test an older Windows version only if you are using a genuinely old jetAudio release.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch jetAudio again.
If compatibility mode does not help, uninstall and reinstall the complete package. A present DLL can still fail because another dependency, codec, permission, or legacy program behavior is incompatible.
Fix 4: Run jetAudio with administrator permissions
Permissions problems can prevent an old application from reading its own installation files.

- Select Open file location.
- Right-click the jetAudio shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start jetAudio.
If this works, the installation or its folder permissions need attention. Do not solve the problem by granting broad permissions to System32, SysWOW64, or the entire Windows folder.
You can also reinstall jetAudio into its normal application location using the installer’s default settings. Avoid manually moving the program after installation.
Fix 5: Repair Windows only when other Windows symptoms exist
jfmp3rd.dll is not established as a Windows-protected system file. DISM and SFC are therefore not the primary repair for this error, and they will not be expected to download a third-party jetAudio DLL.
Use them when several unrelated applications show damaged Windows components, Windows Update is failing, or other system files are clearly corrupted.
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter this command:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Restart Windows if requested.
Run SFC second
Open an elevated Command Prompt again if necessary:
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
sfc /scannow
- Press Enter.
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test jetAudio.
If SFC reports that it repaired system files, test jetAudio again, but still reinstall jetAudio if jfmp3rd.dll remains missing. If both commands complete without finding corruption, return to the application repair steps.

Fix 6: Update or reinstall related drivers only for a different symptom
A graphics or audio driver is not the normal cause of a missing jetAudio-owned DLL. Driver work is appropriate when jetAudio opens but audio output fails, Windows shows a device error, or other media applications also have playback problems.

Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected audio device.
- Select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
To reinstall the device driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click the audio device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Confirm the uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Allow Windows to detect the device again.
- Install a driver supplied by the computer or sound-device manufacturer if Windows does not restore one.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through many driver versions by scanning for outdated drivers; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation requires the full version. A driver update will not replace the missing jfmp3rd.dll, so repair jetAudio separately.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. That is typical of some COM or ActiveX components.
jfmp3rd.dll is described as an MP3 reader used by jetAudio. Nothing establishes that it is a registerable COM component. Running this command is therefore not a routine repair:
regsvr32 jfmp3rd.dll
If the file is missing, the command cannot restore it. If the file is present but does not expose the required entry point, Windows may display an entry-point or registration error. Do not keep registering and unregistering the file. Restore the complete jetAudio installation instead.
Why standalone DLL downloads are a bad repair
A separately downloaded DLL can be:
- The wrong version for your jetAudio release.
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
- Modified or bundled with malware.
- Missing related files that jetAudio also needs.
- Placed in a directory where it creates a different loading problem.
It may also hide the real cause, such as antivirus quarantine, an incomplete installer, or an obsolete jetAudio build. Do not place jfmp3rd.dll in System32, SysWOW64, or a random application directory.
Use the official JetAudio installer and install the whole matching program. If you already used a standalone replacement, remove it from any location outside the jetAudio installation tree, scan the computer, and perform a clean official reinstall.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after a software installation, update, or cleanup operation.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the programs and drivers that may be changed.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore is not a substitute for reinstalling jetAudio, and it should not be used if you cannot identify an appropriate restore point. Personal files are not the target of the restore operation, but affected applications may need to be reinstalled afterward.

When to uninstall jetAudio instead
If you no longer use jetAudio, restoring jfmp3rd.dll is unnecessary. Remove the application cleanly:
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Find jetAudio.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
If an error continues at startup afterward, inspect startup entries:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Open Startup apps.
- Disable an entry clearly associated with jetAudio.
- Restart Windows.
Do not disable unknown entries merely because their names are unfamiliar. If the error points to an unexpected folder or unknown startup program, scan the computer and investigate that path before restoring anything.
Final verification checklist
Before considering the repair complete, confirm:
- jetAudio is still required.
- The installer came from JetAudio’s official download page.
- The old installation was removed or repaired cleanly.
jfmp3rd.dll, if present, is inside the jetAudio installation tree.- No copy was placed in
System32orSysWOW64. - Windows Security Protection history did not quarantine the file again.
- The installed release is appropriate for the age of the application.
- jetAudio launches and opens an MP3 file.
- Other applications do not show unrelated Windows DLL errors.
FAQ
Is jfmp3rd.dll a Windows file?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a Windows system file. It is associated with jetAudio and should be repaired through the jetAudio installation.
Which program installs jfmp3rd.dll?
Desktop jetAudio software from JetAudio, Inc. installs and uses the component. Exact file contents can vary by release.
Is jfmp3rd.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public metadata identifies it as a Win32, or 32-bit, DLL. Do not mix it with a different architecture or jetAudio release.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Will Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET fix it?
There is no reliable evidence connecting this specific DLL to those Microsoft runtimes. Install runtimes only when another application provides a clear, separate runtime error.
Should I run SFC for this error?
Not as the first step. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while jfmp3rd.dll is a jetAudio application component. Use SFC and DISM only when broader Windows corruption is also evident.
Why does the file exist but still fail to load?
The file may be from the wrong release, another dependency may be missing, antivirus software may be interfering, or the old jetAudio program may be incompatible with current Windows behavior. Reinstall the complete matching package rather than replacing the individual file.
What if jetAudio’s installer will not run?
Right-click the official installer, choose Run as administrator, and test Windows compatibility settings for an older release. If it still fails, preserve your media and playlists, then consider whether the legacy application should be replaced rather than forcing one DLL to work.
