Verdict: The JXD S7300 Android Gamepad 2 is a discontinued 7-inch Android gaming tablet from around January 2013. Its integrated controls, HDMI output and useful older-console emulation remain interesting, but Android 4.1, aging batteries, limited storage and uncertain firmware make it a legacy collectible or tinkering project—not a practical modern Android handheld.
What the JXD S7300 actually is
JXD marketed the S7300 as “Gamepad 2”: an Android tablet with a built-in console-style controller. It is neither a current dedicated console nor an ordinary tablet with an optional gamepad. The original model shipped with Android 4.1, a 7-inch 1024×600 touchscreen and physical controls integrated into the bezel. Contemporary coverage described a launch/preorder price of about $150 in early 2013 (GizChina; Geeky Gadgets).
That date matters. Google Play, authentication, HTTPS/TLS support and current Android games have moved far beyond this software base. In 2026, an S7300 should be viewed primarily as an offline retro device, a repair project or a piece of Android-gaming history.

S7300, S7300A and S7300B: do not assume they are identical
Listings often use “S7300” for several related revisions. Community documentation distinguishes the original S7300, S7300A and S7300B. Their processors, clocks, graphics behavior and firmware can differ.

Check the model printed on the rear label, packaging and system-information screen before installing software. Never treat an S7300A or S7300B image as interchangeable with another revision. Historical forum records include S7300B firmware references, but no currently maintained official compatibility matrix was located (Dingoo Scene).
Specifications
The figures below are period specifications, not guarantees about every surviving unit. Some listings advertise a 1.5 GHz CPU while other reports describe 1.3 GHz, and a community report says some firmware reduced operation to 1.2 GHz.

Controls and ergonomics
The layout includes a D-pad, two analog sticks, ABXY buttons, four shoulder buttons, Start and Select, plus Android navigation and power/volume controls. The sticks reportedly do not click, so games requiring L3/R3 inputs cannot use those commands. The shoulder buttons are digital buttons, not modern analog triggers.
A 7-inch screen makes maps, menus and emulator text easier to see than on a pocket handheld. The trade-off is bulk: at about 408 g it feels like a small tablet, not a device that disappears in a pocket. Hand fatigue, D-pad quality, stick placement and shoulder reach are user- and revision-dependent. Test every direction and button rather than relying on photographs or a listing description. Android games and controller mapping
Some games recognized the physical controls natively; others were touch-only. JXD supplied a mapper that placed hardware inputs over virtual on-screen buttons. In the period workflow, you selected a physical control, dragged it onto the corresponding touchscreen control and saved the profile.

Native input
When a game recognizes the controller directly, input is usually cleaner, but labels or assignments can still be wrong. The S7300 should not be assumed to identify as a standard Xbox 360 controller on Windows or every Android application.

Touch mapping
Mapping can rescue a touch-only game, but it may leave visible overlays, break when the interface changes, struggle with multitouch gestures or fail when an app blocks overlays. Behavior depends on firmware and the exact game. The existence of a mapper is therefore not equivalent to universal gamepad support.
Contemporary demonstrations included Dead Trigger and emulators for PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Neo Geo, Game Boy Advance, Super Nintendo, NES and Sega Genesis (GizChina).

What it can realistically emulate

Emulator “support” means that software exists for a platform, not that every game runs at full speed with perfect audio. Results depend on emulator version, game, frame skipping, audio settings, firmware clock and controller compatibility. Use legally obtained game files; an emulator and a ROM are separate things, and legality varies by country. Avoid relying on unidentified preinstalled titles on a used unit.
HDMI, USB OTG and tablet functions
HDMI can make the S7300 a small living-room retro system, while USB OTG can accept accessories such as storage, keyboards or mice. Exact HDMI resolution/scaling and accessory compatibility must be tested on the individual tablet. OTG peripherals may draw more power than the tablet can provide, and an aged battery can make sustained docked use unreliable. Local media playback is more realistic than modern streaming applications.

A 2013 community-maintained record lists S7300B firmware v1.1 dated January 26, 2013 and a reported v1.3 test release dated February 4. It recommends a freshly formatted microSD card and warns that updating removes installed programs (historical firmware discussion). This is not evidence of a current official support channel.

Before any update:
- Confirm the exact revision printed on the device.
- Record the current build number and back up saves, ROM files, applications and mapper profiles.
- Verify the image source and model match; do not cross-flash revisions.
- Use a known-good card and reliable power.
- Assume user data and installed applications will be erased.
- Do not interrupt the process, and have a verified recovery path before starting.
Because no maintained official archive or authoritative recovery manual was found, a definitive button sequence or flash command would be unsafe to publish. In 2026, treat Google Play and online-service compatibility as uncertain; sideloading older compatible software and using offline emulators is more realistic than expecting a modern Android experience.
Battery, storage and failure risks
The original battery specification matters less than the condition of a battery that has been stored for more than a decade. Stop using a unit with swelling, deformation, unusual heat, rapid percentage drops or shutdowns under load. Do not leave a visibly swollen lithium battery charging unattended.
Eight gigabytes is restrictive even for retro use. Android consumes part of it, and emulator artwork, save states and game files quickly fill the remainder. The period specification lists microSD support up to 32 GB; larger cards should be considered experimental. Firmware updates may require a particular card format.
Used-unit inspection checklist
- Confirm whether it is S7300, S7300A or S7300B.
- Charge it and check for swelling, heat, rapid drain and unexpected shutdown.
- Test every D-pad direction, both sticks for drift/dead zones, ABXY, all shoulders, Start and Select.
- Check the touchscreen for dead spots and accurate multitouch.
- Test HDMI, USB/OTG, headphone output, speakers, Wi-Fi and microSD detection.
- Inspect cracks around the controls, damaged ports and missing proprietary accessories.
- Check available internal storage and record the installed firmware before resetting or flashing.
Who should buy it?
Consider one if you want a historically interesting Android gaming tablet, enjoy repair and firmware experimentation, primarily play 8-/16-bit, arcade or selected PS1 titles, and can buy cheaply enough to absorb a battery replacement. Avoid it if you need current Android apps, reliable Google Play, modern online games, pocket portability, broad PSP/6th-generation emulation, long battery life or guaranteed Windows controller compatibility.
Alternatives by use case
Later JXD models offer newer hardware but retain a history of firmware and quality-control compromises. The Archos GamePad is a contemporary integrated-control alternative with different ergonomics. Nvidia’s Shield Portable is a more powerful, differently shaped Android device. Modern retro handhelds generally provide better emulation, batteries and software support, while an ordinary modern Android tablet paired with a Bluetooth or USB controller is far more practical for current applications. These categories are alternatives, not evidence of current prices or stock.
Bottom line
The JXD S7300 is worth understanding as an early, oversized Android gaming tablet—not as a modern console replacement. A healthy, correctly identified unit can still deliver enjoyable classic emulation and HDMI play, but every purchase should be treated as a condition-sensitive used device with obsolete software. Buy for the controls, history and tinkering; do not buy expecting current Android compatibility.
