Kena: Scars of Kosmora has moved from its previously announced 2026 release window to 2027. Ember Lab says it needs more time to polish the expanded experience. The studio has confirmed PS5 physical and digital editions and a digital PC release, but has not announced an exact date.
What changed in the release window?
Ember Lab first announced Kena: Scars of Kosmora for PS5 and PC in 2026 on February 12, 2026. Its October 1, 2026 update replaces that window with 2027. The revised announcement confirms the year, not a specific day or month.
The original announcement is on PlayStation.Blog; the revised window and new overview appear in the October update.

Why was Kena: Scars of Kosmora delayed?
Ember Lab says the move gives the team more time to polish the larger experience it wants to deliver. In the studio’s words, “Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver.” The update frames this as a quality-focused decision and says the team aims to exceed the quality of its 2021 debut, Kena: Bridge of Spirits. It does not identify a specific production or technical problem.

What the update reveals about the game
A broader, still-linear adventure
Ember Lab describes the sequel as a character-focused linear adventure with greater scope and depth than Bridge of Spirits. Players will be able to leave the beaten path, but the studio has not described it as an open-world game.
Kena’s story on Kosmora
Kena is now an established Spirit Guide who has helped the dead, but has not fully explored what guiding spirits means for the living or confronted all of her own pain. Her childhood friend Orfio believes Kosmora may hold answers they are both looking for.

Elemental cultures and Alchemystic Temples
Kosmora once held four interconnected cultures, each guided by an element; a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one. Ancient Spirit Guides developed an elemental practice and built Alchemystic Temples. Ember Lab describes the temples as dungeon experiences that test players’ skills and offer transformative rewards. The island is also home to living cultures with their own histories, values, and struggles.
A crystalline canine companion
A crystalline canine spirit tied to the island’s origins can serve as Kena’s mount, assist in combat on foot or while mounted, and help solve Alchemystic puzzles.

What was already known about the gameplay?
The February announcement said a powerful spirit would fracture Kena’s staff, leading her to use Alchemy to manipulate elements. It also introduced elemental spirit companions that grow and unlock powers as Kena’s bond with them deepens, along with expanded combat skills and elemental infusions. Those details came with the original announcement; the October update adds the story and setting overview rather than a new precise launch date.
