Keychron’s M7 is not a brand-new mouse family: the original M7 1K has been available for years. The significant current model is the M7 8K refresh, which pairs a PixArt PAW3950 sensor with up to 8,000Hz polling. Keychron’s US page listed it at $69.99 on August 16, 2026, although some configurations were backordered or unavailable. Both versions are lightweight, right-handed wireless mice with Bluetooth, 2.4GHz and USB-C wired modes; the 8K model is the one with the newer sensor and higher report rate.
What changed between the M7 1K and M7 8K?
Retailers often shorten the product name to “M7,” but the two versions are materially different. Verify the sensor and polling specification before buying.

Keychron’s current specifications are on the official M7 product page. The exact original launch date and a separately verified announcement date for the 8K refresh are not established here, so “available” or “refreshed” is more accurate than presenting the mouse as a newly launched product.

Is the sensor genuinely high-end?
In specification terms, yes. The PAW3395 in the 1K model is rated for 26,000 DPI and 650 IPS, while the PAW3950 in the 8K model is rated for 30,000 DPI, 750 IPS and 50G acceleration. Both support motion sync and adjustable lift-off distance. Keychron also says the 8K version can track on glass, but only at a maximum 1,000Hz report rate.

Those figures describe sensor capability, not complete mouse latency. End-to-end response also depends on sensor processing, click switches, wireless transmission, polling behavior and the game and system receiving the input. Independent testing found very good overall performance and click latency, while sensor latency remained behind some flagship competitive mice. The M7 therefore has a high-spec sensor without automatically being the lowest-latency esports mouse.
What the M7 hardware provides
- Approximately 66 ± 3g according to Keychron’s current table.
- Right-handed ergonomic shell with a thumb rest; it is not ambidextrous.
- Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless receiver and detachable USB-C wired operation.
- 600mAh rechargeable battery.
- Huano micro switches rated for up to 80 million clicks.
- PTFE/Teflon feet, ABS body and grip surfaces, and no RGB lighting.
- Windows and macOS support listed by Keychron, with browser-based configuration.
The M7 has left and right click, wheel click and several programmable side controls, including a dedicated macro button. Reviews count the physical controls differently, so do not rely on a generic “eight-button” listing without checking the exact retail layout. It has more side functionality than a basic FPS mouse, but far fewer thumb buttons than a dedicated MMO model.

How useful is 8,000Hz polling?
At 1,000Hz, the mouse reports roughly every 1ms; at 8,000Hz, the theoretical interval is about 0.125ms. That is a report-rate improvement, not an eightfold reduction in every form of input latency. The benefit is most plausible with high-refresh-rate displays, competitive games and systems already tuned for low latency.
8K works only through 2.4GHz or USB-C. Bluetooth is capped at 125Hz. Higher polling can increase CPU activity and consumes more power, so many users will see little practical advantage over 1,000Hz. PC Gamer also notes the battery cost of running high polling. Choose the 8K version for headroom and the PAW3950, not because every game will look or feel eight times faster.

Shape, weight and grip fit
The M7 sits in the same broad ergonomic category as Logitech G502, Razer Basilisk and Corsair M65 mice, but at roughly 66g it is much lighter than those typically heavy designs. Independent testing found the shell comfortable for productivity and general gaming, especially for people who want a thumb rest.
That shape is also the main reason not to buy it blindly. The mouse is right-handed only, its broad thumb-rest area can create more desk drag than expected, and fingertip users or competitive FPS players who prefer a flat, symmetrical shell may find it chunky. Palm and relaxed claw grips are more natural matches. Hand length and width, rear-hump preference and mouse-pad friction matter more than the weight number alone.

Connectivity and Keychron Launcher
Keychron uses the web-based Keychron Launcher rather than a conventional desktop-only utility. It can remap buttons, create shortcuts and macros, adjust DPI, polling rate and lift-off distance, configure angle snapping, and save onboard profiles for different applications or computers. Keychron lists Chrome, Edge and Opera among supported browsers.
- Connect the mouse by USB-C, or use its 2.4GHz receiver.
- Open Keychron Launcher in a supported Chromium-based browser.
- Select Connect in the upper-left corner and choose the M7.
- Change button assignments, DPI, polling, lift-off distance or macros.
- Save an onboard profile and test it in the intended game or application.
If the mouse is not detected, reconnect it in wired mode, move the receiver close to the mouse and try again. The official manual recommends close receiver proximity during 2.4GHz pairing; avoid hiding the receiver behind a metal PC case or several feet away. The browser approach is convenient across operating systems, including users who do not want a Windows-only app, but it requires a compatible browser and internet access for initial configuration.

Battery claims need their connection mode attached
Keychron rates the M7 1K for up to 70 hours. The M7 8K is rated for up to 140 hours specifically in Bluetooth mode. That 140-hour figure should not be treated as expected endurance while gaming continuously at 8,000Hz over 2.4GHz. Polling rate, wireless mode, sensor settings, firmware and power-saving behavior all change runtime. Bluetooth maximizes endurance but limits reporting to 125Hz; 2.4GHz provides gaming-grade polling at a higher power cost.
What is missing?
- No RGB lighting.
- No free-spinning scroll wheel and no left/right wheel-tilt controls.
- Not enough thumb buttons for users who need an MMO-style grid.
- No Bluetooth 8K mode.
- A shape that will not suit left-handed, narrow-shell or fingertip-focused users.
- Availability that can vary by configuration and region.
The conventional wheel is particularly important for office buyers. Spreadsheet-heavy work, long documents and timeline navigation are better served by a mouse with free-scroll and tilt functions, such as Logitech’s productivity-oriented designs.

Independent comparisons from RTINGS place Logitech’s G502 X Plus ahead in overall performance and build quality, while the M7 wins on weight and Bluetooth. Current prices for competing models vary and should be checked at purchase time rather than inferred from this comparison.

Buying checklist
- Confirm the listing says PAW3950 and 8K if those features matter; “M7” alone is ambiguous.
- Check whether the listing is the black or white model and whether the desired configuration is in stock.
- Verify the included receiver and firmware support the advertised polling rate.
- Compare battery figures using the same wireless mode and polling setting.
- Check regional shipping, tax, warranty and return terms on Keychron’s official retailer information.
One long-term Notebookcheck review reported shiny areas developing on the thumb rest and main buttons after four months. That is a single reviewer’s observation, not evidence of a universal defect, but it is a reasonable surface-wear caveat.
Verdict
The M7 8K is a strong value when it is available: a roughly 66g right-handed ergonomic mouse, three connection modes, programmable controls and a PAW3950 sensor for $69.99 on Keychron’s US page as of August 16, 2026. Its 8K polling is best viewed as an enthusiast feature for 2.4GHz or wired use, not a guarantee of dramatically better aim. Choose it for lightweight thumb-rest ergonomics and flexible connectivity; choose another mouse if you need left-handed support, MMO-level buttons, a free-spinning wheel or the lowest possible competitive sensor latency.
