In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II’s main quest “Via Argentum,” travel east of Grund to the search area marked on Volkmar’s map, then look for a hole with a ladder at its southern edge. Descend and take the Secret mint ledgers from the evidence chest: that is the proof Christian needs. The key on Buresh’s table opens the prisoners’ room, not the evidence chest.
Before you search for the mint
“Via Argentum” is the 17th main story quest. Henry follows missing silver from the mine to Buresh’s smelter in Grund, questions Shima, and confronts Volkmar. After questioning Volkmar, ask him for the map; it reveals the counterfeit mint’s location. PowerPyx’s walkthrough also reports that Volkmar may be paid 100 Groschen to leave.
At the confrontation, the dialogue option “I demand a fair duel” can reduce the fight from three opponents to one, according to PowerPyx. The guide describes the other listed checks as difficult. A newer guide recommends clean civilian clothing with weapons and armor removed for Buresh’s optional conversation, then combat gear for Volkmar. These are route recommendations, not requirements for every character or route; follow the active journal objectives if yours differ.
Find and enter the Secret Mint
- Open the map Volkmar gives Henry and travel east of Grund to the marked search area.
- Search the southern edge of the area for a hole in the ground with a ladder.
- Climb down into the tunnel and follow it to the mint. The location guide and quest walkthrough both identify this hole as the entrance.
Get the evidence: Secret mint ledgers
At the tunnel’s end, Henry encounters Buresh and soldiers. The walkthrough describes a bribe route, with an offer reported as high as 475 Groschen, and a combat route. Paying or fighting does not replace the objective: continue into the room and take the Secret mint ledgers from the evidence chest. PowerPyx describes the chest’s lock as medium difficulty and notes that nearby chests may contain lockpicks.

Do not confuse the two keys
The Secret preghaus key is on a table in Buresh’s chamber. It opens the door to the two imprisoned coiners. It is not the evidence chest key. A separate records-chest key is described on an evidence route, with lockpicking as a fallback. Before leaving, check Henry’s inventory and make sure it contains the Secret mint ledgers.
Optional: free the imprisoned coiners
Rescuing the coiners is optional and does not count as the ledger evidence. The guides report that Henry must defeat the guards to persuade the prisoners to leave; speak to the coiners again afterward to complete the rescue. Both walkthroughs report a reputation benefit, but it takes extra combat effort.

Return to Christian and choose how to report
Return to Christian at the mine with the ledgers and report what Henry found. The documented choice branches involve Buresh’s bribe, the optional rescue, and whether Henry supports Christian’s later plan:
| Choice | Documented outcome | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Take Buresh’s bribe | PowerPyx reports an offer as high as 475 Groschen. | The bribe does not substitute for obtaining the Secret mint ledgers. |
| Fight the guards and rescue the coiners | The guides report a reputation gain for completing the rescue. | Optional; it requires defeating the guards and speaking to the prisoners again. |
| Give Christian a complete report and agree to his plan | PowerPyx reports a reward of up to 625 Groschen for this route. | The amount is guide-reported and may vary with what Henry found and reported. |
| Refuse Christian’s plan | The newer guide reports no partnership payment and possible hostility from Christian in “Oratores.” | This is a consequential relationship choice, not simply a different way to collect the same payment. |
PowerPyx’s Via Argentum walkthrough was published February 3, 2025; the newer KCD2.org guide’s retrieved passage does not state a publication date. The guides differ on some mine totals and key details, so avoid relying on a precise silver total or assuming a particular key route. The shared objective is clear: Volkmar’s map points to the mint, and Christian needs the ledgers.
