This is a first-play recommendation, not a claim that the events happen in this order. The official Square Enix timeline provides franchise context, while the official collection page identifies what is included in the bundled releases.
Do I play Kingdom Hearts in chronological order?
Not for a first playthrough. The in-universe timeline includes distant prequels, events that fit between other games, and mobile stories. Playing those earlier simply because they occur earlier in the timeline can change what you know about the original game’s reveals. There is no single chronology list here that settles every chapter-level placement, particularly for the mobile narratives, so the release-sequence path above is the clearer newcomer route.

For a replay focused on timeline order, use an explicitly chronological guide and check how it places individual chapters and mobile story material. Do not mistake the order of titles in a collection for a complete timeline: a bundle makes entries easier to find, but does not establish when every event occurs.

Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] for October 8, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Store on Windows. Its announcement describes physical and digital editions for the full collection; the component bundles in that offering are digital-only. Store availability can vary by region, and the physical edition requires an internet connection for additional data. Check the collection announcement and your local store for the current platform, edition, and format before buying.

The official US collection page also lists Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX in KINGDOM HEARTS INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE on Steam, alongside component bundles and digital or physical storefront options. Availability depends on the platform, edition, format, region, and store.

You can follow the central console-game story using the release-sequence list without treating every title as a required full playthrough. Some collection entries are presented as movies or cutscene compilations rather than full playable games, so you can still follow their narrative without expecting a remake you can play. The key distinction is whether you want the main sequence or every available side story and mobile narrative.

Where do the mobile stories fit?
Kingdom Hearts χ, Union χ, and Dark Road add story material, but they are not needed to turn the collection sequence into a playable path. Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts Archives records that Union χ service ended and moved to an offline version in 2021, and Dark Road service ended and moved offline in 2022. That archive does not establish current device compatibility or access in every region; check official app or store support before relying on either title.
