Konami has not announced another Castlevania game, but producer Tsutomu Taniguchi says the series should not go quiet for a decade after Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. In an interview published by Famitsu on August 28, 2026, he said the future direction was still undecided while expressing a desire to keep the franchise’s momentum going.
What Konami said about Castlevania’s future
Taniguchi, the game’s Konami Digital Entertainment producer, said the team was focused on getting Belmont’s Curse released and had not settled on what would follow. He also argued that releasing the game and then waiting ten years for the next one would make the effort meaningless. His remarks signal an intention to keep Castlevania active in some form, not confirmation of a sequel, another title, or a release schedule.
Nintendo Everything’s October 3, 2026 English translation of the Famitsu interview renders his comments this way: “So with the release of this game I thought, ‘Phew… we did it’, but if we said, ‘Okay, the next game will be out in ten years’, the whole thing is meaningless. Although, I still don’t know what shape that will take.” Read Nintendo Everything’s translated excerpt; the original interview appeared in Famitsu.
Why Taniguchi says the series needs momentum
Taniguchi described a sense of urgency behind the project: in his view, fewer people were actually playing Castlevania, while more people knew the name without having tried a game. That is his qualitative explanation, not a published audience study or a quantified measure of the franchise’s players.

The project is being made by Evil Empire, KONAMI, and Motion Twin, according to Famitsu. The interview also places Belmont’s Curse in medieval Paris. Evil Empire marketing director Bérenger Dupré said the team wanted to draw on the contrast of sacred sites becoming settings for a demonic castle; he joked that, as a French developer, he wanted to destroy Paris. Taniguchi said artist Katsuya Terada’s visual style brought the game freshness as well as a sense of history.
The team has also highlighted the whip as a central attraction for Castlevania and Dead Cells players. Dupré said it has uses beyond attacking. Those design details describe the current game, but they do not indicate what form a future Castlevania project might take.
