Lackey is an early Trosky side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Start it by visiting Zlata at Vostatek’s home near Vidlak Pond, rescue the missing gamekeeper from wolves, and recover his horse Pepik from a hostile camp. The horse can be recovered through combat or stealth, so you do not necessarily need to fight every poacher.
The quest pays 80 groschen and supports the Mutt search and later Vostatek content. If you are pursuing the Lent achievement, take care not to kill the wolves during the rescue.
How to start Lackey
Go to Zlata’s home near Vidlak Pond in the Trosky region and speak with her about her missing husband, Gamekeeper Vostatek. The house is west or northwest of Tachov and northwest of Zhelejov, depending on the route you take. Accept Zlata’s request, then follow the objective into the woods.
Lackey can appear while you are pursuing Henry’s dog, Mutt, but you can also encounter it by visiting Vostatek’s family home directly. Speak with Vitek, Vostatek’s son, if you want additional information about where his father went. Asking Vitek is optional.

Lackey walkthrough: all objectives
- Speak with Zlata at Vostatek’s home near Vidlak Pond.
- Optional: talk to Vitek for more information.
- Find Vostatek in the woods near Vidlak Pond.
- Drive off or defeat the wolves surrounding him.
- Carry Vostatek to his hunting camp.
- Place him on the mattress or bedroll at the camp.
- Take water from the barrel and give it to him.
- Follow the trail to Pepik, Vostatek’s missing horse.
- Recover Pepik from the poacher or bandit camp.
- Return Pepik to Vostatek, then finish the conversation at the family home.
1. Find Vostatek in the woods
Follow the quest marker away from the family home and into the forest around Vidlak Pond. Vostatek is trapped in or beside a tree while approximately three wolves surround him. You may hear him calling for help before you reach the encounter, so search the marked woodland rather than returning to the house.
Defeat the wolves or make them flee, then speak with Vostatek. You must make the area safe enough to interact with him before the rescue can continue.
How to save the wolves for the Lent achievement
If you are pursuing the Lent trophy or achievement, avoid killing the wolves. Several walkthroughs report that the animals can be driven away or defeated without registering animal kills, but an injured wolf may later die and produce a different result. Use the least-lethal option available, watch your animal-kill statistics, and do not assume that a wolf is safe merely because it stopped attacking.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf you are not attempting Lent, the encounter is simply a short early-game animal fight. Heal afterward if necessary before carrying Vostatek onward.
2. Carry Vostatek to the hunting camp
Vostatek is injured and asks Henry to take him to his nearby hunting camp. Pick him up and follow his directions and the environmental landmarks. The intended route leads through landmarks such as:
- a fallen tree,
- an anthill,
- a birch tree, and
- a marked tree or stone pile.
Do not wander far from the route while carrying him. When you reach the camp, put Vostatek down on the mattress or bedroll. Then interact with the barrel to obtain water and speak with him again.
This second conversation is important. If the next objective does not appear, Vostatek has usually not been placed on the correct bedroll or Henry has not collected the water from the barrel.

3. Track Pepik to the poacher camp
Vostatek explains that his horse, Pepik, is missing and asks Henry to find him. Leave the camp using the marked route and inspect the clues along the trail. Depending on the point at which you interact with them, the signs include:
- torn cloth,
- hoof or horseshoe tracks, and
- other indications of movement toward the camp.
Interact with the clues instead of merely walking past them. Examining them advances the objective and keeps the intended route visible.
4. Recover Pepik
Pepik is being held at a camp occupied by hostile poachers or bandits. One account of the encounter describes about five low-level enemies. That can still be a dangerous fight for an under-equipped Henry, particularly early in the story. An autosave may trigger as you approach, but it is sensible to prepare before entering the camp.
Option A: Fight through the camp
Enter the camp, defeat the hostile men, and interact with Pepik once the area is safe. This is the clearest approach if Henry has suitable armor, healing supplies, and enough combat experience to handle several opponents.
Do not treat “low-level” as harmless. Multiple enemies can surround Henry, exhaust his stamina, and prevent him from responding effectively. Separate opponents where possible, avoid being trapped against obstacles, and retreat if the fight turns against you.
Option B: Steal Pepik and leave
You can also approach from concealment, preferably at night, take Pepik, and escape without killing every enemy. Multiple walkthroughs describe clearing the poacher camp as optional, although the exact journal wording can vary according to the route or game version.
Use the terrain and the camp’s edges rather than walking directly between the enemies. If you are detected, create distance instead of committing to a fight you cannot win. Once you have Pepik, ride away and return to Vostatek’s camp.

| Approach | Advantages | Risks |
|---|---|---|
| Combat | Direct, straightforward objective completion; no need to sneak the horse out. | Several enemies can overwhelm an early-game Henry; injuries and equipment durability may become a problem. |
| Stealth or theft | Can avoid a difficult fight and may suit Lent-focused play. | Detection can turn into a chase or combat; the camp layout and timing matter. |
5. Return Pepik and complete Lackey
Bring Pepik back to Vostatek at the hunting camp and speak with him. Vostatek then returns home. Depending on the dialogue and route, the game may offer a choice to ride home with him or meet him there later.
Recommended Free Tools
- Ride with Vostatek: this leads directly into the home sequence.
- Meet him at home: this gives you more control over Henry’s travel and lets you leave the area on your own terms.
At the house, the final conversation with Zlata and Vitek concludes the quest. The listed reward is 80 groschen. Completing Lackey is also reported to provide permanent lodging at Vostatek’s property—a free bed that can be used for sleeping, healing, and saving—but this benefit may depend on quest state or game version, so treat the cash reward as the clearly listed reward and verify the lodging is available at your property.
Choices and consequences
- Accept or decline Zlata’s request: Accepting starts the quest and its connected Vostatek content. Declining postpones the rescue rather than advancing it.
- Speak with Vitek or not: Vitek can provide extra information, but talking to him is not required to begin the main rescue sequence.
- Kill or avoid the wolves: Avoid lethal animal damage if you are working toward Lent. Be especially careful with wounded wolves that may die after the encounter.
- Kill or evade the poachers: Combat is not consistently presented as mandatory. Stealing Pepik at night can let you complete the important objective without clearing the camp.
- Travel home with Vostatek or meet him there: Riding with him moves directly into the conclusion; meeting him later preserves control over Henry’s route.
When should you complete Lackey?
Complete Lackey soon after it becomes available, especially if you are trying to finish Trosky side content or maintain continuity in the Mutt search. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has regional story transitions and points at which side content or NPCs can become unavailable. There is no single universally documented hard deadline specifically confirmed for Lackey in the available quest references, so it would be misleading to label the quest definitively time-limited.
The safe approach is to finish it before pushing the Trosky main story toward a major transition. Doing so also keeps the Vostatek storyline intact and can lead naturally into Bird of Prey.

Vostatek is not at the family home
That is expected after starting the quest. Follow the marker toward the woods near Vidlak Pond and inspect the trees and surrounding ground. Vostatek is trapped outside, with wolves around him; he is not waiting inside the house.
The rescue will not advance after the wolves are gone
Speak with Vostatek once the wolves have been driven away or defeated. If the next objective still does not appear, confirm that you interacted with him rather than only clearing the animals.
Vostatek will not progress at the camp
Carry him all the way to the designated hunting camp, place him on the mattress or bedroll, interact with the barrel to get water, and speak with him again. The Pepik objective follows that sequence.

- Tested and works well. Nice condition
The poacher camp is too difficult
Do not feel obliged to fight all five reported enemies. Save or use the approach autosave if available, return at night, improve your equipment, bring food and healing items, and use stealth to take Pepik. Combat training and defensive skills also make the direct route safer, but retreat remains a valid option if Henry is outmatched.
Lackey appeared during the Mutt search
This connection is intentional. Lackey can be part of or adjacent to the Mutt-related progression. Follow Vostatek’s objectives rather than abandoning the quest because it appears alongside the dog search.
