For a Larix Broadcaster stream to YouTube Live, set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds and choose bitrate by output resolution and frame rate. YouTube says not to exceed a 4-second keyframe interval. For H.264, its recommended starting bitrates include 4 Mbps for 720p30, 6 Mbps for 720p60, 10 Mbps for 1080p30, and 12 Mbps for 1080p60. Use a setting your phone’s upload connection can sustain, then test and monitor stream health.
Recommended YouTube Live settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. These are H.264 recommendations, not a guarantee that a mobile connection or a particular Larix/device combination can sustain the stream.
| Output resolution and frame rate | YouTube H.264 recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps, including 720p30 | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
| 1440p at 30 fps | 15 Mbps |
| 1440p at 60 fps | 24 Mbps |
| 2160p at 30 fps | 30 Mbps |
| 2160p at 60 fps | 35 Mbps |
For YouTube’s current encoder recommendations, see YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Select the row matching the actual outgoing resolution and frame rate; do not choose a bitrate based on resolution alone.
Set the keyframe interval to two seconds
YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds. In Larix, use 2 seconds if the control is expressed in seconds. If the setting is expressed as a number of frames, use the equivalent for the selected frame rate: 60 frames at 30 fps or 120 frames at 60 fps equals 2 seconds. These are mathematical conversions, not claims about the labels or layout of a specific Larix version.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s encoder requirements and recommendations are documented at YouTube Help. A keyframe interval that is too long can also appear as a stream-health warning; see the YouTube Live Streaming API error documentation.
Choose a bitrate your mobile connection can hold
Check upload capacity first
Run an upload-speed test from the network and location you expect to use. The measured result is only a snapshot: mobile signal, congestion, movement, and other devices using the connection can change available upload capacity during a broadcast. If the connection cannot reliably sustain the chosen stream, select a lower resolution or frame rate and use its corresponding bitrate target rather than keeping a higher target that produces interruptions.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Test realistic picture and sound
Before the event, run a test with representative motion and audio. A mostly static scene may behave differently from gameplay, a moving camera, or fast action. Check the stream in YouTube and look at stream health and any warnings while it is running. YouTube’s advice is to test connection capacity, choose a quality the connection can sustain, and monitor health and messages during the stream; consult YouTube’s encoder guidance and the Live Streaming API error reference.
Encoder, transport, and audio choices
- Rate control: YouTube lists constant bitrate (CBR) for encoding guidance.
- Transport: YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension of RTMP. Use an option actually supported by your Larix setup and destination configuration.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS. The bitrate table above is specifically the H.264 table. Check Larix and device support before selecting a codec other than an available H.264 configuration.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and specifies 128 Kbps stereo audio. Its guidance specifies AAC for 5.1 surround sound.
These platform settings are not a guarantee that every Larix release, phone, codec combination, or mobile network exposes or supports every option.

Why Larix examples may show lower bitrates
Gcore’s Larix configuration guide gives service examples of 2 Mbps for 720p30 and 4 Mbps for 1080p30, paired with a 60-frame keyframe interval (2 seconds). Those are Gcore examples, not YouTube’s H.264 recommended bitrate targets and not universal Larix requirements. If the destination is YouTube Live, use YouTube’s resolution-and-frame-rate table as the starting point, then reduce output demands if your connection cannot sustain them. See Gcore’s Larix guide.
Troubleshoot dropped frames, warnings, or unstable output
- Bitrate or connection warning: Verify the selected resolution and frame rate, rerun an upload test from the actual broadcast location, and lower the output setting if the connection fluctuates or cannot sustain the target.
- Keyframe interval warning: Set the interval to 2 seconds; check whether Larix expresses it in seconds or frames and convert for the selected frame rate.
- Stream appears unstable despite a good speed test: A single test does not guarantee sustained capacity. Repeat the test near the time and place of the broadcast, reduce output demands, and watch YouTube’s live stream-health messages during a representative test.
- Codec, audio, or transport option is unavailable: Use a combination supported by the installed Larix version, device, and YouTube ingest configuration; do not assume every codec or protocol listed by YouTube is exposed by every mobile setup.
- Video or audio does not match the intended output: Recheck the outgoing resolution, frame rate, video bitrate, and audio configuration during a private or otherwise appropriate test before the event.
Or let it run in the cloud
Larix is a do-it-yourself mobile encoder for a live phone feed. If what you need instead is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube channel’s 24/7 stream, StreamNeo runs that playback in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded video to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Start a free StreamNeo day.
