If Larix Broadcaster on Android says “encoder initialization failed,” the app has not successfully started video encoding. Larix uses the Android system encoder, but Softvelum does not document a guaranteed fix for this exact message. Try the reversible checks below; treat them as diagnostics, not confirmed remedies.
What the error tells you—and what it does not
The message points to the video-encoding startup path. Softvelum’s Larix FAQ says the Android app uses the system encoder, and that available frame-rate choices reflect ranges supported by that encoder. Larix cannot precisely control the resulting frame rate. Softvelum’s Larix FAQ
That does not identify the cause on your phone. The reviewed official materials do not define this exact error or publish a device-specific fix. Android’s compatibility requirements describe platform expectations, not whether a particular phone, OS version, codec, and app configuration can initialize successfully. - Close apps that may be using the camera or encoder. Exit camera, recording, video-call, or other streaming apps, then close and reopen Larix. If it still fails, restart the phone and retry.
- Switch from HEVC/H.265 to H.264/AVC, if applicable. If Larix is configured for HEVC, select H.264/AVC in its video settings and try again. Softvelum lists H.264/AVC for Larix on Android and says HEVC is available on supporting devices; general Android support for a codec does not establish that your current device and settings can initialize it. - Reduce resolution and frame rate for a test. Choose conservative values below your current settings, then retry. This checks whether the selected mode may be contributing to the problem. Encoder capabilities and supported frame-rate ranges vary by device; Softvelum does not state that lowering these settings cures this initialization error. Softvelum’s Larix FAQ
- Check the app and Android versions. Softvelum lists Android 7.0 or later as Larix’s minimum. Check your Android version and installed Larix build, and update through your usual trusted app source if an update is available. - Contact Softvelum support if it continues. Include the details listed below rather than assuming a particular bug or handset incompatibility.
Compare the settings that can narrow it down
