For sending a prerecorded video to YouTube Live, Wirecast is the better-documented fit. The Wirecast 16 Windows guide explains how to add a local media file as a shot and set it to loop when playback ends; Telestream also documents YouTube as an output destination. Larix Broadcaster is documented as a mobile live-capture encoder, but the official Larix materials reviewed do not explain how to select a prerecorded file or configure a playlist.
How the two apps fit this job
| Need | Larix Broadcaster | Wirecast |
|---|---|---|
| Send a live phone-camera feed | Documented use: mobile capture and live streaming, according to Softvelum’s Larix documentation and YouTube’s encoder help. | Desktop production software; it can be part of a production workflow. See Telestream’s YouTube workflow. |
| Use a local prerecorded video | Not documented in the official Larix materials reviewed. That does not prove no version or workaround can relay one. | The Wirecast 16 Windows guide documents adding local media files as shots. See the Wirecast 16 Windows User Guide. |
| Loop a clip at the end | Not established by the Larix materials reviewed. | The guide documents a Loop end behavior that starts the media again when it finishes. |
| Send output to YouTube Live | Softvelum provides YouTube publishing setup guidance using connection settings. | Telestream documents selecting YouTube in Wirecast’s Output Settings. |
YouTube lists Larix as a mobile app for capturing and streaming live, and lists Wirecast Go as an iOS mobile production app. Those listings do not establish prerecorded-file playout through Larix. The comparison is based on documented workflows, not hands-on testing; it does not establish relative reliability, ease of use, image quality, or compatibility with a particular file or computer.
Set up a prerecorded clip in Wirecast 16 for Windows
The specific steps below follow the Windows version 16 guide. Labels and behavior may differ in macOS or other versions, so check the guide for the edition installed on your computer.
- Import the video. In Wirecast, browse to or import the local media file, then add it as a media-file shot using the guide’s media-file workflow.
- Set its end behavior. Open the media file’s When Finished setting and choose Loop to restart the clip when it ends. The Telestream Wirecast 16 Windows User Guide says: “Loop causes the media to begin playing again.” The guide also describes Hold and Remove as other end behaviors.
- Configure YouTube output. Open Output Settings, select YouTube, and follow Telestream’s YouTube setup instructions to connect and configure the destination.
- Check the whole path before going live. Confirm the file decodes and plays, check audio and framing, and verify that the YouTube event and output settings are correct. These are prudent preflight checks, not a guarantee that every media file or computer will work.
The documented loop control covers a clip’s end behavior. Do not assume it provides unattended sequencing of multiple files into a playlist; verify that workflow for your installed edition and version.

What Larix documents for YouTube
Larix is the more relevant choice when the source is a live phone camera. Softvelum’s documentation covers YouTube publishing setup through connection settings and advises using video-plus-audio mode, an appropriate bitrate, and compliance with YouTube requirements. Those instructions describe a live contribution workflow, not selecting a prerecorded file, so they should not be treated as steps for file playback.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded video live on YouTube without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers; automatic recovery is provided if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded video rather than going live from a camera. Copyright and YouTube account checks
Software that sends a file to YouTube does not grant rights to the video’s picture or audio. Before streaming, make sure you have the rights or permission to use the material and check YouTube’s current live-stream eligibility and content rules. YouTube’s encoder guidance is the place to verify current requirements; account eligibility, ingest settings, and the event interface can change.
