If Larix Broadcaster shows a black screen on YouTube Live, first check whether Larix is paused or in stand-by: pause mode intentionally sends black video. Then compare Larix’s camera preview with the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. A black local preview points to Larix or Android camera capture; a visible local preview with a black YouTube preview points toward the stream connection or YouTube’s live setup.
1. Check whether Larix is paused
During the broadcast, look at Larix’s pause control and make sure the stream has not been paused or put into stand-by. Softvelum’s Larix Broadcaster for Android documentation explains that pause keeps the stream connected while sending black video and silence: “Video track will contain a black screen while audio track will contain silence.” A black image in this state does not necessarily mean the camera has failed.
2. Compare Larix’s preview with YouTube’s preview
Check the camera image inside Larix before changing YouTube settings. This comparison separates a likely capture problem from a likely delivery or live-control-room problem; it is a diagnostic guide, not a guaranteed diagnosis.
- Larix preview is black: Check pause or stand-by, the selected camera, the connection’s capture mode, and Android camera access.
- Larix preview shows video, but YouTube is black: Check the encoder connection and YouTube Live Control Room preview and status.
3. If Larix’s own preview is black
Confirm video is enabled
Larix supports video-plus-audio, video-only, and audio-only connection modes. Check the mode selected for the connection you are using; an audio-only mode will not send camera video. Softvelum’s Larix setup reference recommends video-plus-audio mode for its YouTube setup.

Check the selected camera
Confirm that Larix has selected the intended front or rear camera. Switch cameras once and check the preview again. Android multi-camera selection is available only on supported versions, so the available choices may vary by phone and app version.
Check Android camera access
Make sure Larix is allowed to use the camera in Android’s app permissions. The exact path and labels can vary by Android version and phone maker; open the system settings for Larix and check its camera permission. Return to Larix and check the preview again.

4. If Larix shows video but YouTube does not
Verify the current YouTube server URL and stream key
YouTube encoder setup uses a server URL and stream key provided in Live Control Room. Open your stream’s encoder settings in YouTube Studio and compare the current values with the connection configured in Larix. Softvelum’s setup reference explains how to combine the server URL and stream name/key for a Larix connection. Copy values from your own YouTube Studio rather than relying on an old saved key. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish or share it.
Check the scheduled-stream preview sequence
For a scheduled YouTube stream, start the encoder and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then select Go live. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe this sequence. If Larix’s preview works but the Live Control Room preview is missing or black, investigate the encoder connection and ingest status before blaming the phone camera.

5. Troubleshoot by symptom

6. What to record if it still fails
If these checks do not identify the cause, note the phone model and Android version, Larix app version, whether Larix’s local preview is black, the selected camera and connection mode, and any encoder status or error shown. Softvelum’s and YouTube’s setup documentation explain the app’s modes and encoder workflow, but do not establish one cause that applies to every phone-specific black-screen problem.
