The LCS represents the Americas, the LEC represents EMEA, and the LCK represents Korea in Riot Games’ 2026 Tier 1 League of Legends structure. Their regional competitions also use different formats: the LCS and LEC examples below are from Split 1, while the LCK example is from Split 2. Those differences affect how teams advance and qualify for international events—not a proven hierarchy of playing style or strength.

These are specific examples from Riot Games’ 2026 League Handbook, not a single same-split comparison: the LCS and LEC rows describe Split 1, while the LCK row describes Split 2. Riot notes that regional leagues can use their own split formats, so these details should not be assumed to describe every split or future season.

How the 2026 LCS Split 1 format works
The LCS Split 1 event lists eight regional teams. Its first three weeks use a Swiss-style stage: teams with the same records are drawn to play one another across three rounds. The stage narrows the field to six teams, who then compete in a double-elimination playoff. The playoff winner earns the LCS place at First Stand.
In a Swiss format, a team’s next opponent is determined by its results so far rather than by playing every other team in a full round robin. The handbook’s format description specifies three rounds for this LCS event.

How the 2026 LEC Split 1 format works
The LEC Split 1 event lists 12 participating teams: the league’s regional teams plus two invited teams from the EMEA Regional Leagues (ERLs). Those invited teams are part of this event; the handbook does not describe them as permanent LEC members.

How the 2026 LCK Split 2 format works
The LCK Split 2 handbook lists ten teams in a double round robin, so teams meet each other twice in the league stage. The top six then enter a single-elimination king-of-the-hill playoff. In single elimination, one loss ends a team’s run. The two highest-placing teams qualify for MSI.

What double and single elimination mean
Double elimination gives a team room to lose once and remain in the tournament; a subsequent loss eliminates it. Single elimination ends a team’s run after one loss. These bracket structures are distinct from the league-stage formats: a round robin determines standings through repeated scheduled matches, while the playoff bracket determines the eventual winner or qualifiers.

First Stand, MSI, and Worlds are international competitions, not names for regional leagues. In Riot’s 2026 calendar, First Stand follows Split 1 and MSI follows Split 2; Worlds is the final international event. The cited handbook examples send the LCS and LEC Split 1 winners to First Stand, and the LCK Split 2 top two to MSI. Qualification allocations vary by region and event.

Riot groups the LCS and CBLOL in the Americas, the LEC in EMEA, the LCK in Korea, and the LPL and LCP in China and Asia-Pacific respectively. The LCS, LEC, and LCK are therefore three regional leagues within the wider Tier 1 competition, rather than three different international tournaments.

What this comparison does—and does not—show
The handbook establishes differences in region, event field, stage format, playoff structure, and the cited qualification routes. It does not establish that one league is inherently more aggressive, tactical, entertaining, or stronger. Nor should a format example from one split be treated as an all-season description. For a current-season comparison, check the relevant split’s handbook rather than assuming the format stays fixed year to year.
