It belongs to the Bluetooth Local COM Setup Wizard, part of Toshiba’s Bluetooth Stack for Windows.
If Windows reports that lcwizard.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, the safest solution is to repair or reinstall the complete Toshiba Bluetooth package for your computer or adapter. Do not begin by downloading the DLL alone.
What lcwizard.dll is and where it comes from
The file is installed by Toshiba Bluetooth software. It may be present on:
- Toshiba laptops with the legacy Toshiba Bluetooth Stack
- Computers using Toshiba Bluetooth hardware
- Some third-party Bluetooth adapters that licensed or bundled Toshiba’s stack
It is associated with Toshiba’s Local COM configuration components. Package inventories show it alongside files such as LocalCOM.cpl, Toshiba Bluetooth APIs, INF files, drivers and other stack components.

lcwizard.dll is not a Microsoft Windows system DLL, Visual C++ runtime file, DirectX file or .NET file. Its exact path, architecture, dependencies and size can vary between Toshiba stack releases, so there is no single universal version or file size that applies to every computer.

What the error usually means
Windows may display messages such as:

The exact wording does not identify one particular application. The program requesting the file is usually a Toshiba Bluetooth control-panel component, Local COM utility, Bluetooth configuration tool or startup item from the Toshiba stack.
It is not normally a sign that a game needs a gaming runtime. Installing Visual C++, DirectX or .NET as a first response is unlikely to restore this Toshiba file.
Fix 1: Repair the installed Toshiba Bluetooth software
Repair is the least disruptive fix because it can restore missing files while preserving the existing installation.

- Right-click Start and select Installed apps.
- Find the Toshiba Bluetooth software or Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Bluetooth and repeat the action that produced the error.
If Windows provides no Repair button, open the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall, then follow the reinstall procedure in the next section.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Apps & features.
- Select the Toshiba Bluetooth program.
- Choose Advanced options and then Repair, if those controls exist.
- Restart the computer and test the Bluetooth utility.
Traditional desktop installers may not expose these Settings options. In that case:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Find the Toshiba Bluetooth entry.
- Right-click it and choose Repair or Change.
- Complete the installer and restart Windows.
A successful repair should remove the startup or Bluetooth configuration error. If the same message appears immediately after restarting, the installation may be incomplete, the package may be wrong for the model, or security software may have removed the file.

Fix 2: Reinstall the exact Toshiba Bluetooth Stack
This is the most likely definitive repair for a genuinely missing lcwizard.dll.
First identify the computer or adapter model. Check the label on the computer or adapter, the original documentation, or Settings > System > About. Then use the manufacturer’s official support area to locate the Bluetooth package for that exact model and Windows version.
Do not choose a package solely because its filename resembles another Toshiba installer. Toshiba released different stack packages, and the documented Dynabook installer named TC00636200a.exe applies to a particular package rather than every Toshiba computer. That package updates Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba to version 9.10.32(T) and restarts the computer after installation.
Use this process:
- Download the Bluetooth package from the computer or adapter manufacturer’s official support page.
- Close open applications.
- Open the downloaded installer.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- If a Toshiba Archive Extractor appears, allow it to extract and install the package.
- Follow the prompts.
- Restart when requested, even if Windows does not appear to require it.
- Open the Toshiba Bluetooth utility or pair a Bluetooth device.
If the installer refuses to run, confirm that it belongs to the correct model. An installer for another Toshiba system may be incompatible even when the missing filename is identical.
If the old installation is damaged, remove it first:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Select the Toshiba Bluetooth software.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Install the correct replacement package.
- Restart again and test Bluetooth.
If the package includes a separate Bluetooth driver, install that driver as part of the same package. The stack contains coordinated DLLs, executables, control-panel files, services, drivers and INF files. Restoring only lcwizard.dll can leave the rest of the installation mismatched.
Fix 3: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Some Toshiba packages contain separate x32 and x64 payloads. Matching filenames do not make those files interchangeable.

To check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Look at System type.
- Note whether Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.
Install the package intended for both your operating system and your Bluetooth hardware. Do not copy an x32 DLL into a 64-bit Toshiba installation, or an x64 DLL into a 32-bit installation. Also avoid combining lcwizard.dll from one Toshiba release with drivers and support files from another.
A wrong-architecture installation may produce a different loader message, including an error saying that the file is not designed to run on Windows. If that happens, uninstall the mismatched Toshiba package, restart, and install the correct model-specific package.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can quarantine a legitimate old DLL, particularly when legacy software uses unusual installation methods or outdated code.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
lcwizard.dllor the Toshiba Bluetooth installer. - Review the detected file path and detection details.
- Run a full scan before restoring anything.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- It came from a legitimate Toshiba installation directory.
- The package was obtained from an official manufacturer source.

Do not broadly disable antivirus protection. The safer repair is to reinstall the complete verified Toshiba package after confirming the quarantine event.
Fix 5: Update or replace the Bluetooth driver
A Windows upgrade or incompatible driver update can leave an old Toshiba startup component behind while removing or replacing the driver files it expects.
Check Device Manager as follows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Bluetooth.
- Right-click the Toshiba, adapter or Bluetooth device entry.
- Select Properties and open the Driver tab.
- Record the provider and driver date.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
If Windows cannot find a suitable driver, return to the computer or adapter manufacturer’s official support page. Install the Bluetooth driver intended for the exact model. If the Toshiba stack is obsolete and the manufacturer now supplies a different Bluetooth driver, uninstall the old Toshiba software before installing the supported replacement.

Manually hunting through several model pages and guessing which old Bluetooth package matches your system can be time-consuming. If the device has disappeared from Device Manager
In Device Manager:
- Select View > Show hidden devices.
- Expand Bluetooth and Network adapters.
- Look for a greyed-out Toshiba or Bluetooth entry.
- Right-click the obsolete entry and choose Uninstall device only if it belongs to the old installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct current driver.
Do not remove unrelated Bluetooth devices simply because they have similar names. If the machine uses Intel, Broadcom or another adapter, follow that adapter manufacturer’s installation history rather than forcing Toshiba files onto it.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair commands when other symptoms suggest system corruption, such as damaged Windows features, repeated system-file errors or failed updates. These commands do not normally restore a third-party Toshiba DLL that is absent from the Toshiba installation.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the UAC prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. Restart Windows after both commands complete, then retry the Toshiba repair or installer.

Success means the commands complete without an unrepaired corruption message, not necessarily that lcwizard.dll has been restored. If SFC reports that it could not fix everything, repeat the process after restarting and check Windows Update. If the Toshiba error remains, return to the model-specific Toshiba package rather than repeatedly running SFC.

You may no longer need Toshiba’s legacy software. Modern Windows or a current OEM Bluetooth driver may provide the required Bluetooth functions without Toshiba’s Local COM tools.
Before removing it, consider whether you use Toshiba-specific Bluetooth profiles, virtual COM-port functionality or an older device that depends on the stack.

What not to do
Do not download lcwizard.dll by itself
Random DLL download sites pages can provide malware, a tampered file, the wrong release or the wrong architecture. Even a genuine copy may not fix the problem because the Toshiba stack also needs matching drivers, services, INF files, registration and companion DLLs.

Restore the package, not just the filename.
Do not register it blindly with regsvr32
regsvr32 works only with DLLs that expose a DllRegisterServer entry point. There is no reliable evidence that lcwizard.dll is a self-registering COM DLL.
Running:
regsvr32 lcwizard.dll
may produce an error such as “DllRegisterServer entry point was not found,” or it may conceal the real installation problem. Use the Toshiba installer instead. Only use regsvr32 when the software’s official documentation specifically requires it and identifies the correct DLL.
Do not install unrelated runtimes first
Visual C++ Redistributable repair is relevant when Windows identifies a missing VCRUNTIME, MSVCP or similar runtime file. It is not evidence that lcwizard.dll depends on that runtime. The same applies to DirectX and .NET.
If the error continues after reinstalling
Work through this checklist:
- Identify which executable requests
lcwizard.dll. - Right-click the DLL, choose Properties, and inspect its path and Details tab.
- Check whether the file is inside a Toshiba Bluetooth installation directory.
- Review Event Viewer under Windows Logs > Application.
- Check Toshiba installer and uninstaller logs if present.
- Confirm that an older Toshiba Bluetooth version is not still installed.
- Check antivirus quarantine again.
- Investigate disk health if files repeatedly disappear or become corrupted.
- Use System Restore only if a suitable restore point predates the failure.
- Test with a new Windows user profile if the error affects only one profile.
A Toshiba directory makes the file more credible, but the filename alone cannot prove that a copy is safe. Confirm its path, properties, signature and antivirus results before restoring or allowing it.

Is lcwizard.dll a Windows file?
