Yes—the November 2024 PS5 Pro manual leak was substantially accurate. Documentation circulated online on November 5, two days before the console launched, reported a 16.7-teraflop AMD Radeon RDNA-based GPU and 16GB of graphics memory. Sony’s official PS5 Pro safety guide later listed those same headline specifications, along with 2GB of DDR5 memory and a 2TB custom SSD.
The important technical correction is that “16GB VRAM” is shorthand. Sony formally specifies 16GB of GDDR6 in the console’s unified memory design, not a PC-style graphics card with a separately labeled VRAM pool.

What the leaked PS5 Pro manual revealed
The pre-release report described PS5 Pro documentation circulating online after some consoles reportedly reached buyers early. Published on November 5, 2024, the report appeared just before the PS5 Pro’s November 7 launch.

The manual also lists an M.2 SSD expansion connector. The standard PS5 Pro is sold without a disc drive, although a compatible optional drive can be added separately.
Is the PS5 Pro really a 16GB VRAM console?
It is understandable to describe the PS5 Pro as having 16GB of VRAM, but that wording is not technically complete. Sony’s manual identifies the memory as 16GB of GDDR6, supplemented by 2GB of DDR5.
On a typical desktop gaming PC, a graphics card has dedicated VRAM while the computer separately uses system RAM. Consoles use a more unified arrangement, in which the high-speed memory pool serves the graphics processor and game workloads. That makes “16GB VRAM” a useful shorthand for readers, but it should not be interpreted as a discrete PC graphics-card specification.

The most precise description is therefore: 16GB GDDR6 graphics memory plus 2GB DDR5 system memory.
What does 16.7 TFLOPS mean?
TFLOPS means trillions of floating-point operations per second. It is a measure of theoretical arithmetic throughput, not a direct frame-rate guarantee. The official manual lists the PS5 Pro’s GPU at 16.7 TFLOPS and describes it as an AMD Radeon RDNA-based graphics engine.
That number must be considered alongside compute-unit count, clock speeds, memory bandwidth, architecture, ray-tracing hardware, image reconstruction, game-engine optimization, resolution and frame-rate targets. Two GPUs with different architectures can deliver different gaming performance despite similar theoretical FLOPS figures.
Sony separately says the PS5 Pro has 67% more compute units, 28% faster memory and can provide up to 45% faster rendering than the original PS5. Those are not interchangeable measurements: 16.7 TFLOPS is the manual’s theoretical GPU figure, while the 45% statement is Sony’s rendering-performance claim.
Why earlier PS5 Pro TFLOPS rumors were much higher
Before launch, some reports claimed figures of roughly 67 TFLOPS using 16-bit calculations or 33.5 TFLOPS using 32-bit calculations. These were earlier rumor claims based on alleged sources, not the final specification Sony published.
The discrepancy can arise from different floating-point precision, counting conventions and assumptions about the architecture. Sony’s later technical seminar also distinguishes between FLOPS and TOPS, reinforcing that compute metrics should not be treated as interchangeable.
Consequently, the 16.7-TFLOPS figure should not be dismissed because it is lower than those rumors, nor should it be compared casually with unrelated PC GPU figures. The official number is the one that matters for the finalized console.

What the PS5 Pro improves in games
The PS5 Pro’s practical upgrade is broader than the raw specification table.
- More GPU resources: Sony claims 67% more compute units than the current PS5.
- Faster memory: Sony cites a 28% memory-speed increase.
- Rendering performance: The company claims up to 45% faster rendering.
- Ray tracing: Sony says ray-tracing performance can be double, and in some cases triple, that of the current PS5.
- PSSR: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution is Sony’s machine-learning-based upscaling technology, designed to improve image reconstruction.
These benefits are game-dependent. Sony announced more than 50 PS5 Pro-enhanced games around launch, including Alan Wake 2, Apex Legends, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. That does not mean every PS5 game receives the same upgrade—or any major upgrade at all.
Enhanced titles may use the extra GPU power, improved ray tracing or PSSR differently. A GPU-bound game with a PS5 Pro patch may offer a more convincing combination of image quality and frame rate, while a CPU-bound game may see less dramatic scaling because the manual still identifies an eight-core/16-thread Zen 2 CPU.
Launch price versus current U.S. price
The PS5 Pro launched in the United States at $699.99 on November 7, 2024. The package included the 2TB SSD, one DualSense controller and Astro’s Playroom. It was a disc-free console.
For current buying context, Sony announced a U.S. recommended retail price of $899.99, effective April 2, 2026. The official U.S. PlayStation Direct listing displayed the 2TB console at $899.00 when checked on August 18, 2026. Prices and availability can vary, so the launch price should not be presented as the current price.
Physical-media owners must also account for the separately sold disc drive. Buyers who only use digital games can ignore that additional cost, while owners of boxed PS5 or PS4 games and UHD Blu-ray discs need to factor it into the effective purchase price. A vertical stand is also sold separately.
What the 2TB SSD means in practice
The 2TB custom SSD is a meaningful capacity increase over the original PS5’s advertised internal storage. It provides more room for large games before an expansion becomes necessary, although the usable capacity is lower than 2TB because system space is reserved.
For larger libraries, the official manual confirms an M.2 SSD expansion connector. The appropriate expansion drive must meet Sony’s compatibility requirements; the manual alone does not justify recommending a particular model or current price.
Who benefits most from the PS5 Pro?
- Best fit: Players with a 4K or high-refresh display who play PS5 Pro-enhanced games and value improved ray tracing, sharper reconstruction or smoother performance.
- Less compelling: Owners satisfied with standard PS5 performance, players using a basic 60Hz display, or buyers who mostly play titles without meaningful Pro enhancements.
- Important consideration: Physical-game owners should include the optional disc drive in their budget.
Verdict
The leaked PS5 Pro manual got the important headline specifications right: a 16.7-TFLOPS AMD Radeon RDNA-based GPU, 16GB of GDDR6, 2GB of DDR5 system memory and a 2TB SSD. Sony’s official manual now confirms those figures in retrospect.
The leak’s “16GB VRAM” wording was broadly understandable but technically simplified. More importantly, 16.7 TFLOPS is not a benchmark and cannot predict every game’s frame rate. The PS5 Pro’s real-world appeal depends on the combined effect of its GPU upgrade, faster memory, ray tracing, PSSR and title-specific developer support.
