Collecting all nine unlocks the Legendary Armaments achievement on Steam and Xbox, or the equivalent trophy on PlayStation. The most important step is to obtain the Bolt of Gransax before Leyndell becomes the Ashen Capital; it is the one weapon that can be permanently lost during a normal playthrough.
This guide lists every required weapon, its exact acquisition route, relevant prerequisites, missability, and the build considerations that matter if you want to use the weapons rather than simply collect them.
Before you start: collect the Bolt of Gransax first
Do not leave Leyndell, Royal Capital, without collecting the Bolt of Gransax. A late-game story event transforms the capital into the Ashen Capital, removing access to the weapon’s original location for that playthrough.
The safest approach is to pick up the Bolt of Gransax as soon as you can reach the enormous ancient spear in Leyndell, and preferably before beginning the late-game sequence that leads to the capital’s transformation. Guides sometimes describe the exact cutoff differently, so treating the Ashen Capital change as your deadline is safer than relying on a narrower milestone.

If you miss it, your practical recovery options are to obtain it from another player through an eligible multiplayer trade or collect it in another playthrough. Those options can help recover a completion, but they are less convenient than picking it up before the world state changes.
The nine Legendary Armaments at a glance
| Armament | Region | How to obtain it | Prerequisite or timing | Missable? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bolt of Gransax | Leyndell, Royal Capital | Loot it from the giant ancient spear structure | Must be collected before Leyndell becomes the Ashen Capital | Yes |
| Devourer’s Scepter | Limgrave or Crumbling Farum Azula | Defeat Knight Bernahl | Can be obtained from his invasion later if he was not killed earlier | Potentially, if Bernahl’s progression is mishandled |
| Grafted Blade Greatsword | Castle Morne | Defeat Leonine Misbegotten | Reach the Weeping Peninsula and clear the castle’s boss encounter | No, under normal circumstances |
| Sword of Night and Flame | Caria Manor | Open a chest in the manor | Reach the lower sections of Caria Manor | No |
| Ruins Greatsword | Redmane Castle | Defeat the Misbegotten Warrior and Crucible Knight | The castle must be in the appropriate non-festival state | No, but the encounter can be temporarily displaced |
| Marais Executioner’s Sword | The Shaded Castle | Defeat Elemer of the Briar | Reach the castle in northern Altus Plateau | No |
| Dark Moon Greatsword | Moonlight Altar | Complete Ranni’s quest and collect it near the Cathedral of Manus Celes | Advance Ranni’s quest through its final area | Normally no, but quest progression is required |
| Eclipse Shotel | Castle Sol | Loot it from the castle | Reach the Mountaintops of the Giants | No |
| Golden Order Greatsword | Cave of the Forlorn | Defeat the Misbegotten Crusader | Reach the Consecrated Snowfield | No |
All nine count toward the same achievement or trophy. They are an official named category, not a promise that every weapon is the strongest choice for every character. Requirements, scaling, weapon skills, damage types, and playstyle all affect whether a particular armament is useful to you.
1. Bolt of Gransax
Location: Leyndell, Royal Capital.
Acquisition: Find the massive ancient spear embedded in the capital and climb or drop onto the exposed section to loot the Bolt of Gransax.
The weapon is not obtained from a boss. It is a world pickup in the upper sections of Leyndell, and its unusual scale makes the location easier to recognize once you reach the correct area. The important part is not the combat difficulty; it is the world-state deadline.
Why it is missable
After the late-game event that turns Leyndell into the Ashen Capital, the original capital layout is replaced and the spear pickup is no longer available. Do not assume that returning later will restore the old city.
Completionist rule: if you are exploring Leyndell and have not yet found the Bolt, make it your priority before pushing the story toward the capital’s transformation. If the achievement does not unlock after the Bolt is your ninth weapon, check that every item is actually in your character’s possession rather than left in storage, then revisit your inventory and achievement list.
2. Devourer’s Scepter
Location: Knight Bernahl’s appearances in Limgrave and Crumbling Farum Azula.
Acquisition: Defeat Knight Bernahl at Warmaster’s Shack in Limgrave, or obtain the weapon from his later invasion in Crumbling Farum Azula.
Warmaster’s Shack is the earliest route. If you meet Bernahl there and choose to fight him, he drops the Devourer’s Scepter. If you leave him alive, his later invasion provides another opportunity. This makes Bernahl’s weapon less strictly missable than the Bolt, but his quest and invasion progression can create confusion if you are trying to collect everything in a single run.

Before killing him early, remember that Bernahl has other interactions and rewards. If you are also following his storyline, you may prefer to wait for his Farum Azula invasion rather than ending his role at the shack.
3. Grafted Blade Greatsword
Location: Castle Morne in the Weeping Peninsula.
Acquisition: Defeat Leonine Misbegotten at the end of Castle Morne.

Leonine Misbegotten is the castle’s main boss encounter. Once defeated, he drops the Grafted Blade Greatsword directly, so there is no chest, quest item, or later hand-in to locate.
The weapon is a colossal sword with the Oath of Vengeance skill and substantial Strength requirements. Its skill temporarily improves several aspects of the wielder’s combat capability, but its size, weight, and attribute demands make it a poor fit for a lightly invested or fast-weapon build. It counts for the achievement whether or not your character can currently equip it.
4. Sword of Night and Flame
Location: Caria Manor in northern Liurnia of the Lakes.
Acquisition: Reach the lower rooftops and walkways of Caria Manor, drop into the isolated building containing a chest, and open it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The Sword of Night and Flame is a fixed chest pickup rather than a boss reward. Explore the manor’s elevated routes carefully; the chest is reached by moving across the rooftops and dropping through an opening into the structure below.
Its distinctive weapon skill gives the sword both a flame attack and a sorcery-like night attack. That flexibility comes with a split attribute profile, so collecting it does not mean you should immediately rebuild your character around it. Check its Intelligence, Faith, and other requirements before spending upgrade materials or respec resources.
5. Ruins Greatsword
Location: Redmane Castle in southern Caelid.
Acquisition: Defeat the paired encounter involving the Misbegotten Warrior and Crucible Knight.
Redmane Castle’s festival state can temporarily replace or alter the normal castle encounters. If the boss fight is not available, progress through the Radahn Festival and defeat Starscourge Radahn, then return to the castle and reload or revisit the area. The Misbegotten Warrior and Crucible Knight encounter should become available when the castle returns to its relevant non-festival state.

The Ruins Greatsword is a heavy Strength-oriented weapon with a powerful gravity-based skill. It is particularly demanding in terms of attributes and weight, so treat it as a collection requirement first unless your build is already designed for colossal weapons.
6. Marais Executioner’s Sword
Location: The Shaded Castle in northern Altus Plateau.
Acquisition: Defeat Elemer of the Briar, the area’s boss.
The Shaded Castle is a poison-filled ruin between the Altus Plateau and Mt. Gelmir regions. Make your way through the castle to its boss arena and defeat Elemer. The Marais Executioner’s Sword is awarded as the boss’s weapon drop.
Its signature skill launches the weapon forward while it remains connected to the player, allowing repeated hits against suitable targets. That attack is more specialized than a standard sword swing and works best when the character meets the weapon’s attribute requirements and can take advantage of its scaling.
7. Dark Moon Greatsword
Location: Cathedral of Manus Celes area on the Moonlight Altar plateau.
Acquisition: Complete the decisive final steps of Ranni’s quest, then collect the sword in the cathedral area.
The Dark Moon Greatsword is the quest reward associated with Ranni’s storyline. You must advance through the quest’s required underground and upper-world stages, reach the Moonlight Altar plateau, and complete the final interaction at the Cathedral of Manus Celes area.
This is the longest acquisition route on the list because the weapon is tied to quest progression rather than a simple chest or isolated boss. If Ranni’s quest is already active, continue following its objectives instead of assuming the sword will appear in the cathedral before the story has reached its conclusion.
The weapon is especially relevant to Intelligence-focused characters, but the achievement does not require you to meet its requirements or use it in combat.

Acquisition: Explore Castle Sol and loot the weapon from its fixed location inside the castle.

The Eclipse Shotel is a pickup within the castle rather than a reward for the area’s final boss, so search side rooms and elevated sections instead of leaving immediately after completing the main route.
The Eclipse Shotel is a curved sword with a distinctive status-oriented identity and an unusual silhouette. It has a niche combat role, but you only need to acquire it for the Legendary Armaments achievement.
9. Golden Order Greatsword
Location: Cave of the Forlorn in the Consecrated Snowfield.
Acquisition: Defeat the Misbegotten Crusader at the end of the cave.
Recommended Free Tools
The Cave of the Forlorn is an optional dungeon in the Consecrated Snowfield, so reaching it requires access to that hidden late-game region. Explore the cave to its boss arena and defeat the Misbegotten Crusader to receive the Golden Order Greatsword.
The weapon is associated with Holy damage and Faith investment. It can be valuable for a character built around that damage profile, but its effectiveness is highly dependent on enemy resistances, attributes, and your overall setup. It remains a required armament even if your current build cannot use it efficiently.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A sensible collection route
You can obtain all nine in one playthrough. The following order is organized around avoiding the main missable item while grouping weapons by natural progression rather than forcing a strict speedrun route.
- Get the Bolt of Gransax during your Leyndell exploration. Do this before the capital becomes the Ashen Capital.
- Visit Warmaster’s Shack early if you want the simplest Devourer’s Scepter route. Otherwise, leave Bernahl alive and plan to defeat his later invasion.
- Clear Castle Morne and defeat Leonine Misbegotten for the Grafted Blade Greatsword.
- Explore Caria Manor and open the chest containing the Sword of Night and Flame.
- Resolve the Redmane Castle festival state and defeat the Misbegotten Warrior and Crucible Knight for the Ruins Greatsword.
- Clear the Shaded Castle and defeat Elemer of the Briar for the Marais Executioner’s Sword.
- Complete Ranni’s quest through the Moonlight Altar and Cathedral of Manus Celes area to obtain the Dark Moon Greatsword.
- Search Castle Sol for the Eclipse Shotel once the Mountaintops are accessible.
- Reach the Consecrated Snowfield, enter the Cave of the Forlorn, and defeat the Misbegotten Crusader for the Golden Order Greatsword.
The exact order is flexible. The Bolt of Gransax is the exception: its deadline is tied to the capital’s world state, not to your preferred checklist order.

What happens when you collect all nine?
The collection unlocks the Legendary Armaments achievement on Steam or Xbox and the corresponding trophy on PlayStation. The platform terminology differs, but the required weapon set is the same.
On PlayStation, look for the trophy rather than an “achievement.” On Steam and Xbox, use the achievement wording. If the notification does not appear immediately, verify the following:
- You collected all nine named weapons, not merely nine high-level or unique weapons.
- The Bolt of Gransax was obtained before the Leyndell-to-Ashen-Capital transformation.
- The weapons are in your character’s inventory or otherwise recognized by the game, rather than being unavailable through an unusual storage or transfer situation.
- You did not confuse the Ruins Greatsword with another reward from Redmane Castle.
- You completed Ranni’s quest far enough to receive the Dark Moon Greatsword, rather than only reaching an earlier quest location.
Collection achievement versus combat build
These are separate goals. The Legendary Armaments category identifies the nine weapons required for the achievement; it does not establish a universal tier list.
Before investing in a weapon, compare:
- Attribute requirements: several weapons demand substantial Strength, Intelligence, Faith, or a combination of stats.
- Scaling: the best weapon for one character may perform poorly on another because its damage improves with different attributes.
- Weapon skill: the unique skill may be the weapon’s main attraction, but it can also require a specific range, timing, or combat rhythm.
- Weight and stamina: colossal swords and greatswords can change your equip-load breakpoint and stamina management.
- Damage type: physical, fire, magic, Holy, and status-oriented attacks behave differently against different enemies.
- Upgrade materials: a trophy does not require you to upgrade every weapon. Save rare materials for weapons you intend to use.
For example, the Grafted Blade Greatsword is a colossal sword with the Oath of Vengeance skill and heavy Strength demands. That makes it a sensible candidate for a Strength-focused character, not an automatic recommendation for a spellcaster or dexterity build. Likewise, the Dark Moon Greatsword is a natural consideration for Intelligence-oriented players, while the Golden Order Greatsword is more relevant to Faith-based setups.
Optional references and game ownership
A physical ELDEN RING official strategy guide is optional, not necessary. It is most useful if you want area maps, quest references, and a broader collectible checklist beside your game. Confirm the edition and current availability before buying, since guide volumes and retailer stock can change.
If you do not yet own the base game, the physical ELDEN RING PS4/PS5 edition is one way to access the achievement or trophy on PlayStation. Existing players do not need to purchase another edition to collect these weapons; the relevant content is part of the base game.
Art books and licensed collectibles may appeal to lore-focused fans, but they provide no gameplay advantage and are not needed for this achievement.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Legendary Armaments are there in Elden Ring?
There are nine: Bolt of Gransax, Devourer’s Scepter, Grafted Blade Greatsword, Sword of Night and Flame, Ruins Greatsword, Marais Executioner’s Sword, Dark Moon Greatsword, Eclipse Shotel, and Golden Order Greatsword.
Which Legendary Armament is missable?
The Bolt of Gransax is the major missable item. Collect it in Leyndell, Royal Capital, before the city becomes the Ashen Capital. The Devourer’s Scepter also depends on Knight Bernahl’s progression, although it has an earlier and a later acquisition route.
Do I need to use all nine weapons to unlock the achievement?
No. You only need to acquire the nine required weapons. Their usefulness depends on your attributes, scaling, damage type, weight, and weapon skills, so collecting them does not require building around all of them.
Can I get the Legendary Armaments achievement after missing the Bolt of Gransax?
You cannot normally collect the Bolt from its original location after Leyndell becomes the Ashen Capital in that same playthrough. A multiplayer item trade, where supported and permitted by the platform and game conditions, or another playthrough may provide a recovery route.
The Bottom Line
There are nine Legendary Armaments in ELDEN RING, and collecting all nine unlocks the platform-specific achievement or trophy. Secure the Bolt of Gransax before Leyndell becomes the Ashen Capital, then use the checklist to collect the remaining boss drops, chests, quest rewards, and dungeon pickups. The weapons are valuable named armaments, but none is universally best for every build.
