LEGO and PlayStation’s “PLAY LIKE IT’S 1994” campaign film turns the new LEGO replica of the original PlayStation into the destination for a spirited nostalgia trip. Friends gather the console’s four familiar button symbols—Triangle, Circle, X and Square—through dance, skateboarding, screen printing and DJ-ing before assembling the brick-built console.
How the “PLAY LIKE IT’S 1994” film unfolds
The film opens with the orchestral swell of the PlayStation startup audio, followed by its high-pitched beep and a rhythmic beat. A group of friends set out to collect the four PlayStation button symbols. The scenes move between dancing, 1990s rave-inspired settings, screen printing, skateboarding and DJ-ing, with each activity contributing to the build-up.
LBB describes the result as both a product demonstration and a celebration of the original console. Handheld-video-camera styling reinforces the throwback mood, while a Gran Turismo mini track and an Ape Escape diorama connect the film’s world to the set’s gaming references. The final reveal brings the collected symbols together in the completed LEGO PlayStation.
What the LEGO PlayStation set includes
The LEGO PlayStation Building Set for Adults is a display replica of the original PlayStation, not a new working gaming console. PlayStation’s product details list 1,911 pieces and a console measuring over 10.5 inches (26 cm) wide. The build includes a controller that plugs into the console, functional Open and Power buttons, and removable, customizable Ape Escape and Gran Turismo dioramas that can be displayed separately. The LEGO Builder app also provides interactive 3D instructions.

Availability and announced prices
In its September 3, 2026 announcement, PlayStation Blog scheduled direct.playstation.com availability for October 1 in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Portugal. LEGO Insiders early access through LEGO was also scheduled for October 1, with general availability through LEGO.com and LEGO Stores scheduled for October 4.

Why the campaign leans on 1994
The film uses recognizable sensory cues—the startup audio, the controller symbols and activities associated with 1990s youth culture—to make the original PlayStation the emotional center of the story. Rather than present the set only as a finished object, it turns the process of collecting and assembling its familiar details into the campaign’s narrative. The result links the LEGO build to memories of the console without suggesting that the model itself can play games.
