Lenovo’s first Windows gaming handheld, the Legion Go, arrived in India in June 2024 after its global unveiling in 2023. It looks and plays like a console, but it is a Windows 11 gaming PC: you can install PC game launchers and desktop apps, with the flexibility—and setup friction—that comes with them. The Indian launch price is not established by the available sources; a later Lenovo Store listing showed a discounted ₹69,991 price for one 16GB/512GB model, which should not be mistaken for its launch price.
What Lenovo launched in India
The Lenovo Legion Go is a handheld gaming PC with detachable controls, a built-in kickstand and an 8.8-inch touchscreen. Lenovo announced it globally on September 1, 2023, describing it as its first Windows gaming handheld. Indian coverage reported its introduction in India in June 2024. Those are separate milestones: the 2023 date is the global announcement, not the India launch. “Console” is convenient shorthand, but the Legion Go is not a Nintendo Switch-style closed platform or a native Xbox or PlayStation. It runs Windows 11 Home, so it can run PC storefronts and applications, subject to individual games’ performance, control and anti-cheat requirements.
India price and availability
The exact India launch price is not established in the available cited reporting, so it would be misleading to present a later store price as the launch figure. A Lenovo India Store listing for model 83E1004MIN (Ryzen Z1 Extreme, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD) showed ₹69,991, including shipping and taxes, during the price check dated August 18, 2026. A separate Lenovo listing showed ₹72,491. These are later listing prices, not the historical launch price, and neither is a permanent price guarantee. What sets the Legion Go apart
Large, high-resolution screen
The 8.8-inch 2560 × 1600 panel is larger and sharper on paper than many handheld displays. Its maximum 144Hz refresh rate can benefit lighter games that run at high frame rates, but it does not mean demanding games will run at 144 frames per second. Rendering at the native resolution can be demanding; lowering a game to 1200p or 800p and using supported upscaling can improve performance.

Detachable TrueStrike controllers and kickstand
The controllers detach from either side, and the built-in kickstand lets the screen stand on a table for play with the controls detached. The right controller can also be mounted in its supplied base for FPS mode, which uses a mouse-like pointing input alongside the other controller. The arrangement makes tabletop and first-person play possible without turning the device into a conventional console.

Two USB-C 4 ports give more flexibility for charging, displays and peripherals than a single-port handheld. Connect a compatible display, TV or dock for a larger-screen setup; a dock, monitor and Lenovo Legion Glasses are separate accessories unless a specific bundle says otherwise.

Windows is both the advantage and the compromise
Windows gives the Legion Go access to multiple PC storefronts and launchers, including Steam, Xbox, Epic Games Store and Battle.net, along with ordinary Windows applications. Lenovo also lists a three-month PC Game Pass trial on its product page; trial eligibility and availability should be checked at checkout, and Game Pass requires the appropriate subscription after any trial.
- More choice: Libraries across supported PC launchers can be used on one device, rather than being limited to a single console storefront.
- More setup: Windows desktop navigation, launcher sign-ins, updates and pop-ups can interrupt controller-first play. Touch input or using the controller as a pointer may be necessary.
- Compatibility is not universal: Some games need a keyboard or mouse, and anti-cheat systems or control schemes may not work as expected on a handheld PC. A console purchase does not automatically grant a PC copy.
- More tuning: Resolution, graphics quality, frame-rate caps and power profiles often need adjustment to balance smoothness, image quality and battery use.

Performance: the screen’s maximum resolution is not always the best setting
The Ryzen Z1 Extreme can run many PC games, but performance varies with the game, power limit, resolution, graphics preset, upscaling, thermal conditions and drivers. The display’s 1600p resolution is a hardware capability, not a promise that demanding games will run smoothly at that resolution. For heavier games, starting at 800p or 1200p, selecting a balanced or performance power profile and setting a frame-rate cap can be more practical. Upscaling such as AMD FSR can help where a game supports it. Higher brightness, resolution and power settings also draw more energy.

Lenovo specifies a 49.2Wh battery and rapid charging, but capacity does not translate into a fixed number of gaming hours. Runtime depends on the game, display brightness and refresh rate, resolution, power profile, frame-rate cap, wireless use and background activity. Tom’s Guide measured about 1 hour 59 minutes in its gaming battery test; that result applies to its test conditions, not every game or user. See the comparison and test context.

At about 854g with its controllers attached, the Legion Go is a substantial handheld. The large screen, stand and detachable controls add flexibility, but the weight can be tiring during long sessions. The case and 65W adapter add to what you carry.
What to check before buying one in 2026
Confirm the exact listing and warranty
The original Legion Go is an older product by 2026, and Lenovo’s handheld range has expanded in some markets. Do not assume a newer Legion Go S or Legion Go 2 is available in India at a particular price without checking an official local listing. For the original, compare the model number and configuration, verify whether the unit is new or outlet stock, and read the warranty, return and delivery terms for your location.
Consider the reported driver-support concern
In February 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported concerns that new AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme driver support may have stopped, while noting AMD had not directly addressed the issue at publication. That report is not an official confirmation that Lenovo has ended support for the Legion Go. Buyers weighing a long ownership period should check current Lenovo and AMD support information and treat future driver updates as an open question rather than a settled guarantee. A 512GB SSD can fill quickly with large PC games. Check the exact model and whether you are comfortable managing installs across internal storage and a microSD card. Lenovo lists microSD expansion up to 2TB; game-loading performance can vary by card. Check the exact unit’s upgrade options before assuming the internal SSD can be replaced.
Who is the Legion Go for?
Consider it if
- You already have PC games across multiple launchers and want to play them on a handheld.
- You value a large screen, detachable controls, tabletop play or the option to connect peripherals and an external display.
- You are comfortable navigating Windows and adjusting game settings for performance and battery life.
Be cautious if
- You want a light handheld for long sessions or expect extended unplugged play in demanding games.
- You prefer a simple, controller-first console interface and do not want to troubleshoot Windows, launchers or control compatibility.
- You need confidence in long-term driver support before buying an older handheld; the 2026 Ryzen Z1 Extreme report is a concern to investigate, not proof that support has ended.
For a Steam-focused player who values a simpler handheld interface, the Steam Deck is a relevant alternative; a Windows-only game or launcher may make it a poorer match. The Asus ROG Ally is another Windows-based comparison, while newer Lenovo handhelds should be considered only after verifying their Indian configuration, operating system, price and availability. These are different trade-offs, not interchangeable recommendations.
