Lenovo announced the Legion Tab (8.8-inch, Gen 2) on March 13, 2024, for selected markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia—not a confirmed worldwide rollout. The compact Android gaming tablet pairs a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with a 144Hz display. Lenovo said EMEA availability was expected from March 2024, starting at €599 including VAT.
What Lenovo announced
The product was named the Lenovo Legion Tab (8.8-inch, Gen 2). Lenovo’s March 2024 announcement described an expansion from China into selected EMEA and Asian markets. “Global” in headlines around the announcement means an international-market version, not guaranteed availability in every country. The release did not establish a U.S. launch, and actual stock, local pricing, taxes and warranty terms depend on the country.
The Legion Tab is the international-market counterpart of the China-market Legion Y700 (2023), according to contemporaneous reporting such as Notebookcheck’s coverage. The shared hardware lineage does not make every imported Y700 identical in software, support or warranty.

These are Lenovo’s announced specifications, also reflected in its Legion Tab datasheet. Lenovo said the two ports cannot be used to charge the tablet simultaneously.

Why the compact screen suits gaming
At 8.8 inches and 350g, the Tab is easier to hold in landscape orientation than a typical large tablet. That makes it a more natural fit for Android games, emulation, cloud gaming and remote play, particularly with a separate controller. Its 2560 × 1600 resolution gives a sharp image, while the 16:10 screen leaves room for touch controls without the bulk of a 10- to 13-inch tablet.
The 144Hz figure is the display’s maximum refresh rate, not a promise that every game renders at 144 frames per second. Actual frame rates depend on the game, settings, thermal conditions and software support. The LCD panel also does not offer the deep blacks and contrast of OLED, and the smaller screen is less comfortable for split-screen work, large PDFs or laptop-replacement use.

Lenovo positioned the tablet with Legion ColdFront: Vapor cooling, performance modes (Beast, Balanced and Energy Saving), dual speakers, dual X-axis haptics and bypass charging for extended play while connected to power. It also promoted integration with Legion monitors and accessories, plus Lenovo Freestyle for sharing content between a PC and tablet. These are manufacturer-described features, not independent measurements of sustained frame rates, temperatures or battery life. The two USB-C ports offer more flexibility than a single-port tablet. Lenovo specified DisplayPort output through the USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, so the tablet can connect to a compatible external display as part of a desk or gaming setup. The second port can provide charging or audio support. Check the cable, adapter and display requirements for a particular setup; the port specification alone does not guarantee every accessory combination will work.

Legion Tab Gen 2 versus newer models
The Gen 2 was a 2024 model, not Lenovo’s current generation in 2026. Lenovo announced the Legion Tab Gen 3 at CES 2025, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and a 165Hz display. Lenovo’s U.S. product listings now include a later Gen 5. These are distinct generations: their specifications and software-support information should not be attributed to the Gen 2.
In particular, Lenovo’s Android Upgrade Matrix identifies the international Gen 3 (model TB321FU) as launching with Android 14, lists Android 15 as available and gives security maintenance through November 30, 2028. That is Gen 3 information, not a support promise for the Gen 2. The 2024 announcement identifies Android as the operating system but does not state a detailed long-term update commitment.

Should you buy the Gen 2 now?
The Gen 2’s compact format, expandable storage, high-refresh display and second USB-C port remain useful for portable Android gaming. Its launch processor, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, was a high-end platform for its period, but it is several generations old by 2026. Whether a remaining or used unit makes sense depends on its price, condition, regional support and your priorities—not its original €599 price alone.

- Compare newer models if performance headroom or a longer remaining support window matters; a newer Legion Tab generation may be a better fit.
- Look elsewhere if you need cellular data, OLED contrast, a large productivity screen or a long, clearly documented update runway.
Before buying, check the exact model number and sales region; whether the unit is official international Legion Tab stock or an imported China-market Y700; Google Play and Google Mobile Services availability; firmware and OTA-update behavior; bootloader limitations; warranty and repair eligibility in your country; and the seller’s return terms. Do not assume an imported Y700 has the same language options, services, firmware, warranty or update path as an international Legion Tab. Avoid firmware changes unless you have verified instructions for the exact hardware revision and build.
