LG’s UltraGear 45GX990A is a 45-inch OLED gaming monitor that can move from flat to a 900R curve. What is the LG UltraGear 45GX990A?
The 45GX990A is LG Electronics’ bendable OLED gaming monitor in the UltraGear GX9 series, announced on December 30, 2024, ahead of CES 2025. LG called it the world’s first 5K2K-resolution bendable OLED display. Its 45-inch screen has a 21:9 aspect ratio and a native resolution of 5,120 × 2,160. LG’s announcement lists a 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time; it does not give a model-specific refresh-rate figure.
LG says the monitor uses a WOLED panel, low-blue-light certification and an Anti-Glare & Low Reflection coating. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent measurements of image quality, glare reduction or eye comfort.
How do the flat and curved modes work?
The screen transitions between completely flat and a 900R curve within seconds, according to LG. Flat mode may suit document work, editing and general desktop tasks; the tighter curve is intended to make games feel more immersive. Those are practical interpretations of the available shapes, not results from an independent hands-on test.

The second-generation Dual-Mode feature offers one-touch switching among presets. LG describes eight configurations, including 21:9 or 16:9 aspect ratios and picture sizes of 39, 34 or 27 inches. These options could help tailor the display to different games or fit a smaller active image within the large panel. LG’s GX9 announcement does not publish the 45GX990A’s final retail refresh-rate specification, so panel-level figures for related products should not be treated as confirmed specs for this model.
What does 5K2K mean for gaming and work?
At 5,120 × 2,160, the display offers substantially more horizontal workspace than a standard 16:9 screen while keeping a 21:9 format that is broadly suited to games and multitasking. LG presents that aspect ratio as a middle ground: wider than 16:9, but not as wide as 32:9. Whether a game supports ultrawide layouts properly still depends on the game.

The extra resolution can make detailed scenes and side-by-side windows appealing, but rendering more pixels can also increase graphics-card load. For fast competitive play, a lower-resolution, higher-refresh mode may be preferable if the monitor’s eventual retail specifications and a game’s support make that option available. LG Display has described related panel technology with FHD at 330Hz or 5K2K at 165Hz using Dynamic Frequency & Resolution modes, but those are panel-level claims—not confirmed operating modes for the 45GX990A. LG Display’s February 2025 panel announcement also gives approximately 11 million pixels and 1,300 nits peak brightness for that related panel; neither number should be presented as a verified retail-monitor specification.
What is known about price and availability?
The official sources cited here establish the announcement, but not a current retail price, Amazon stock, country-specific release status, warranty terms or final retail refresh-rate specification. Check LG or an authorized retailer for the exact model and any regional suffix before buying; availability and terms can vary by market. The 45GX990A was announced as part of the GX9 series, and LG said it received three CES 2025 Innovation Awards, including Best of Innovation. That award claim is from LG’s announcement.

What should buyers weigh before choosing it?
- Shape flexibility: Flat and 900R modes give you a choice between a conventional-feeling workspace and a curved gaming view.
- Game and desktop fit: The 21:9 and 16:9 presets, plus three listed picture sizes, may help with compatibility and different play styles, but actual results depend on each game and preset.
- Resolution versus performance: 5K2K offers a large, detailed canvas, while driving that resolution can be demanding. Do not assume the related panel’s high-refresh modes are available on the finished monitor.
- OLED ownership: LG identifies the panel as WOLED and says its gaming OLED pixels emit half the blue light of LCD screens and are free from flicker that can cause headaches. Those are LG Display claims, not independent medical findings. The official sources cited here do not establish long-term burn-in results or the monitor’s warranty coverage; confirm the policy for your region.
- Glare and comfort: The stated coating and certification may matter at a bright desk, but the cited announcement does not provide independent glare or eye-strain measurements.
There is no independent hands-on assessment or measured latency or long-term burn-in test in the sources cited here. Until the final retail specifications and local purchase terms are confirmed, treat the 45GX990A as an unusually flexible announced monitor rather than a fully documented buy.
