LG’s 2025 UltraGear GX9s OLED ultrawides add webOS smart-TV features

LG’s smart-monitor launch is the 2025 UltraGear GX9s trio—not the sharper 2026 GX9 evo. Here are the models, webOS limits, prices and buying trade-offs.

LG’s smart-TV gaming-monitor launch refers to the UltraGear GX9s family introduced in the United States on April 3, 2025: the 45GX90SA, 39GX90SA and 34GX90SA. Each combines a curved 21:9 OLED panel, up to 240Hz gaming and LG’s webOS platform for streaming apps and cloud gaming without a connected PC. LG’s newer 2026 UltraGear evo GX9 monitors are a separate, sharper monitor-first range and should not be confused with these smart models.

The three monitors LG launched

All three GX9s displays use the same core platform: 3440×1440 resolution, an 800R curve, OLED contrast, up to 240Hz and a claimed 0.03ms response time. LG also lists HDR support, variable-refresh features, AMD FreeSync Premium, G-SYNC compatibility and webOS. Size is the main physical distinction, but it changes immersion, desk requirements and pixel density considerably.

Model Size Resolution Maximum refresh Curve Original U.S. MSRP Observed LG price in August 2026
45GX90SA 45 inches 3440×1440 240Hz 800R $1,699 About $999.99 promotional price
39GX90SA 39 inches 3440×1440 240Hz 800R $1,599 About $899.99 promotional price
34GX90SA 34 inches 3440×1440 240Hz 800R $1,399 About $1,099.99 promotional price

The launch prices and April 3, 2025 availability announcement are documented in LG’s press release. The August 2026 figures are temporary shopping-page signals from LG’s monitor listing, not permanent MSRP replacements; check the exact suffix, stock and price before ordering.

What “smart TV features” means here

These are smart monitors running LG’s webOS, not conventional televisions with a claim of an included cable or over-the-air tuner. On supported regional versions, webOS provides a home screen, streaming applications, LG Channels and cloud-gaming services. You can watch supported services with the computer turned off, then return to a DisplayPort, HDMI or USB-C source for gaming.

Perfect for epic battles or cinematic adventures, this UltraGear is your window to ultimate gaming perfection.
  • 125 PPI: Sharp Text Clarity with Reduced Color Fringe - Designed with an updated subpixel layout, the 5K2K UltraGear OLED screen reduces color fringing for sharper, clearer text. 125 pixels per inch (PPI) is perfect for both work and play: crisp text clarity paired with bold, vivid visuals.
  • Bright 45" OLED Picture: Up to 1300 nits with Deep Blacks and Brilliant Color - Experience bright OLED visuals at up to 1300 nits peak brightness. With color up to 98.5% of DCI-P3 color coverage, a 1.5M:1 contrast ratio, and DisplayHDR True Black 400, every gaming scene pops with deep blacks, brilliant highlights, and cinematic color.

  • 0.03ms (GtG): Astounding OLED Speed - Play with a near-instantaneous 0.03ms response time, which minimizes ghosting for gaming visuals that are sharp, clear and buttery smooth.
  • Streaming apps such as Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube may be available, subject to country and software support.
  • Cloud gaming can work with a compatible controller and a supported service, but latency, bandwidth and service availability still determine the experience.
  • Network access, an LG account or service account and paid subscriptions may be required. Buying the monitor does not include streaming memberships.
  • Screen-sharing features can be available on applicable versions and models.

LG’s 45GX90SA product page specifically describes access to streaming apps and cloud gaming through webOS. App catalogs, channels, update behavior and interface features can change by market. A dedicated Apple TV, Google TV, Roku, Fire TV or console may still offer broader app support, a better remote experience or a longer software-support history.

Gaming hardware and picture specifications

The GX9s proposition starts with OLED’s per-pixel black levels and contrast, then adds an ultrawide field of view for compatible PC games. LG rates the panels for up to 240Hz and claims a 0.03ms response time; that is a manufacturer specification rather than a universal independent measurement.

  • Panel and shape: OLED, 21:9 ultrawide format and a very aggressive 800R curvature.
  • Variable refresh: AMD FreeSync Premium and G-SYNC compatibility are listed by LG.
  • Inputs: LG identifies HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort and USB-C on the 45GX90SA. Port layouts and capabilities should be checked against the exact 34-, 39- or 45-inch SKU.
  • HDR: VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400. LG’s press material also gives 275 cd/m² typical brightness and a 1,300 cd/m² peak measured at a 1.5% HDR window. The latter is a small-highlight figure, not sustained full-screen brightness.
  • Ergonomics: An adjustable stand and RGB lighting are part of the listed feature set.

A graphics card, cable and game must all support the selected resolution and refresh rate to reach 240Hz. Consoles may accept HDMI 2.1 yet output only their supported resolutions and refresh modes; they generally will not use the entire 21:9 canvas in every game.

Choosing 45, 39 or 34 inches

45GX90SA: maximum immersion

The 45-inch model is the closest of the three to a desk-based television substitute. It suits cinematic single-player games, a bedroom or studio entertainment setup and users who can sit far enough back from an 800R screen.

  • The World’s First 39" 5K2K OLED Gaming Monitor - This 39-inch 5K2K (5120×2160) UltraGear hits the sweet spot of size, resolution, and speed. The wide 21:9 format and 1500R curve expand your field of view, while the dense pixel count delivers crisp detail across every scene in the games you love.
  • AI Upscaling to 5K2K—No GPU Upgrade Required - UltraGear evo’s built-in processor uses AI Upscaling to enhance content toward the display’s 5K2K resolution. It analyzes the source signal to improve detail and clarity—helping games and video look sharper without requiring a GPU upgrade.
  • Next-Gen Brilliance with 4th Gen RGB Tandem OLED - 4th Gen Primary RGB Tandem OLED delivers up to 335 nits typical brightness with improved power efficiency. Its advanced 4-stack RGB structure enhances contrast, sharpens detail, and keeps color precise across every frame.
  • UL-Verified for a "Perfect" Visual Experience - Perfect Black: UL-verified Perfect Black delivers true black levels to enhance perceived brightness and contrast, whether it's bright or dark around you. Perfect Color and 100% Color Fidelity- UL verified to deliver accurate color expression even under varying lighting conditions, from low light to bright ambient environments. UL-verified Perfect Reproduction ensures game content is faithfully rendered on screen, preserving intended color and detail. This certification reflects real-world content accuracy.
  • Deeper Detail with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 - VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 reveals rich blacks and nuanced shadow detail—even in dark scenes. Combined with a 1.85M:1 contrast ratio, up to 99.5% (typical) DCI-P3 color, and Delta E≤2 accuracy, visuals appear vivid, precise, and true to the creator’s intent.

The cost is pixel density. A 3440×1440 image spread over 45 inches is approximately 83 pixels per inch, a geometry-based estimate. Text, browser controls and fine desktop elements look less crisp than on a smaller 3440×1440 monitor or a high-resolution 5K2K panel. The chassis and stand also need substantial desk width and depth. Independent testing has found it capable and unusually complete as a smart-TV-style monitor, while describing its original price as high; see Tom’s Guide’s review.

39GX90SA: the middle ground

At roughly 95 PPI, the 39-inch model is visibly denser than the 45-inch version while preserving much of its immersion. It is a sensible compromise for someone who finds 34 inches restrictive but cannot accommodate a 45-inch display. It remains 3440×1440, however, and its 800R curve is still pronounced; buyers seeking genuinely high-resolution productivity should look elsewhere.

34GX90SA: conventional desk footprint

The 34-inch model is approximately 110 PPI, the most familiar size for a 3440×1440 ultrawide. It fits more ordinary desks and balances PC gaming, office work and streaming better than the larger versions. It is less enveloping, and its webOS premium may be hard to justify if you already own a streaming box or console.

OLED trade-offs to understand before buying

Pixel density and text

All GX9s models share 3440×1440, so increasing the diagonal makes games more imposing but desktop text less dense. For comparison, LG’s 39-inch 5K2K model is approximately 143 PPI at 5120×2160. These PPI figures are calculated from panel geometry, not claims from LG.

  • Smart Entertainment & Cloud Gaming: Stream Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ via webOS, and play directly from cloud services like GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, and Blacknut.
  • Bright, Vivid, True Black: OLED panel with 98.5% DCI-P3 color, HDR True Black 400, and 1.5M:1 contrast for deep blacks, brilliant highlights, and cinematic color quality.

Burn-in and static content

OLED image retention and burn-in are not guaranteed, but static taskbars, browser chrome and game HUDs create more risk than varied video. Use the monitor’s pixel-care functions, allow its maintenance cycles to complete and avoid treating it as a permanently static office dashboard. Review the exact warranty language for OLED coverage.

Brightness and reflections

OLED contrast remains excellent even when full-screen brightness is lower than a small HDR highlight. Room lighting and the panel’s surface finish can also produce reflections, so placement matters.

Audio and accessories

Do not assume every regional SKU has identical speakers, remote-control packaging or port layouts. Confirm the specification sheet for the exact suffix. If speakers are absent or inadequate, budget for headphones, desktop speakers or a soundbar.

Do not confuse GX9s with LG’s 2026 GX9 evo

LG’s 2026 39GX950B-B is a different product. Its official information describes a 39-inch 5120×2160 OLED monitor with 165Hz at native resolution and a 330Hz lower-resolution dual mode, DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, USB-C with 90W power delivery, AI display features and LG’s fourth-generation RGB Tandem OLED marketing. LG announced a $1,799.99 launch price in April 2026.

Best fit One-screen gaming and streaming Sharper text, productivity and high-resolution gaming

See the 39GX950B-B product page and LG’s 2026 launch announcement. The newer model is sharper and has newer connectivity, but it is not documented as a webOS streaming monitor.

Who should buy a GX9s?

  • Choose the 45GX90SA if entertainment and immersive games outweigh text sharpness, and your desk can handle a very large 800R display.
  • Choose the 39GX90SA if you want a compromise between 45-inch immersion and a 34-inch footprint.
  • Choose the 34GX90SA for a more conventional desk and mixed gaming/productivity use.
  • Choose a normal OLED monitor plus a streaming box if you already own streaming hardware, dislike smart-TV interfaces or want to replace the monitor and streamer independently.
  • Choose the 2026 39GX950B-B if text clarity, 5K2K productivity and high-end GPU hardware matter more than built-in streaming.

A 32-inch 4K OLED is usually a better close-range desktop tool; a 49-inch 32:9 OLED offers more horizontal workspace but greater game-compatibility and desk-space demands. A separate OLED television plus a high-refresh monitor provides better room-scale viewing and TV features, but loses the GX9s one-screen simplicity.

Buying checklist

  1. Verify the exact model suffix and the retailer’s regional specification sheet.
  2. Check the current price, inventory, return policy and warranty, including OLED coverage.
  3. Confirm that your GPU, console, cable and chosen games can use the desired resolution and refresh rate.
  4. Check whether the package includes a remote and whether the exact SKU has speakers.
  5. Confirm webOS app availability in your country and remember that subscriptions and internet service are extra.
  6. Measure desk depth, monitor-arm capacity and viewing distance for the 800R curve.

The GX9s models make the most sense when built-in streaming genuinely replaces a separate box and their discounted street price is close to that of a conventional OLED monitor. If your priority is crisp text or independent software flexibility, a higher-resolution monitor plus a separate streamer is usually the cleaner choice.
