Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus is a turn-based tactics game about an Adeptus Mechanicus expedition exploring a Necron world. Steam’s US listing showed the Standard Edition for $1.49, down from $29.99, through October 8, 2026. Notebookcheck reported about 89% positive across roughly 15,000 Steam reviews; Steam’s English-language review subset showed a different score.
What is Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus?
Developed by Bulwark Studios and published by Kasedo Games, Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus is a turn-based tactical game released on November 15, 2018, according to Kasedo Games. You lead an Adeptus Mechanicus expedition on a Necron world in search of lost technology. The publisher describes a campaign with more than 50 hand-crafted missions, with decisions that affect later missions and the fate of the troops under your command.
Kasedo’s official pitch is: “Take control of the most technologically advanced army in the Imperium – the Adeptus Mechanicus.” That is publisher marketing language; the practical appeal is commanding a faction of cybernetic tech-priests through tactical battles and campaign choices.
How does it compare with XCOM?
The XCOM comparison is a useful shorthand for turn-based squad tactics, not a claim that the games share identical systems. Notebookcheck describes Mechanicus’s combat as XCOM-like, but highlights its Cognition resource: battle actions can generate it, and you can spend it on extra movement or attacks. Characters also develop through skill trees and equipment choices, adding RPG-style specialization.
#1 Best Overall
- Easy to use
- Value for money
- Durable & Design
The setting is distinctly Warhammer 40,000: the expedition’s search for technology unfolds on a Necron world, with the Adeptus Mechanicus as the player’s faction. The darker tone comes through that grim science-fiction setting rather than from a change to the basic tactical premise.
Steam price and sale deadline
Steam’s US-facing listing showed the Standard Edition at $1.49, reduced 95% from $29.99, with the offer ending October 8, 2026. The headline rounds those amounts to $1.50 and $30. This is a dated US storefront snapshot, not a guaranteed price: regional pricing can differ, and the promotion may end or change. Check the Steam store listing for the current price and availability.
Rank #2
- Physical video game software
- Easy to use
- Premium quality
During the same promotion, Steam showed the Omnissiah Edition at $3.49. The listing snapshot establishes the price but does not specify the edition’s extras here, so check its live contents before paying more; the Standard Edition is the clearly priced option in this deal.
Why do the review scores differ?
The “89%-positive” figure comes from Notebookcheck’s October 5, 2026 deal coverage, which reported around 89% positive across roughly 15,000 Steam reviews. Steam’s retrieved English-language listing showed 92% positive among 8,022 English reviews. These are different review pools and snapshots, so the figures are not contradictory measurements of precisely the same set of reviews.

Is this the same as Adeptus Mechanicus miniatures?
No. The Steam deal is for a PC game. Adeptus Mechanicus miniatures are physical tabletop hobby products for people interested in collecting, assembling, painting, or playing tabletop Warhammer. The connection is the shared faction; the sources establish no compatibility between the models and the video game, and miniatures are not required to play it.
