LinkedIn’s Pinpoint, Queens and Crossclimb: How the Puzzle Games Work and What Changed

LinkedIn launched Pinpoint, Queens and Crossclimb in April 2024. Here is how each puzzle works, how daily resets and guest play work, and how LinkedIn’s game lineup expanded to eight titles by 2026.

LinkedIn launched its first three daily puzzle games—Pinpoint, Queens and Crossclimb—through LinkedIn News on April 30, 2024. They were designed as quick, once-a-day activities that let users compare results and start conversations with professional connections. The feature has since expanded: LinkedIn’s current Games hub lists eight games, although the original three remain available.

These are entertainment and social-engagement features, not recruiting tests, résumé credentials or evidence of workplace ability.

What LinkedIn launched in April 2024

LinkedIn announced Pinpoint, Queens and Crossclimb globally on April 30, 2024, in LinkedIn News. Each game supplied one new puzzle per day rather than an unlimited archive. Players could compare scores with connections, use leaderboards where eligible, share results and join daily discussion threads.

LinkedIn described the games as a quick mental break and a way to connect with other professionals. Contemporary coverage also interpreted the daily format as an effort to increase return visits and time spent on the network, while noting the deliberate limit of one puzzle per game per day (TechCrunch). That interpretation fits the product design, but LinkedIn has not shown that playing improves hiring, productivity, networking quality or cognitive ability.

How Pinpoint works

Pinpoint presents five clues that share a category or theme. One clue appears first; you enter the category you think links it to the eventual set. An incorrect guess reveals another clue. The goal is to identify the category after revealing as few clues as possible. If all five clues appear without a correct answer, the round ends and the solution is shown.

The puzzle tests associative reasoning rather than vocabulary alone. The first clue often supports several narrow interpretations, so look for a category broad enough to include every clue but specific enough to distinguish the intended answer. Avoid committing to a clever connection that cannot naturally explain the remaining clues. LinkedIn’s Pinpoint instructions document the reveal-and-guess rules.

How Queens works

Queens is a region-based placement puzzle. You must place exactly one queen in every row, exactly one in every column and exactly one in every colored region. Queens also may not touch, including diagonally.

It resembles the Star Battle family of logic puzzles more than conventional Sudoku: symbols and regions replace numbers. It is also not the classical N-Queens problem, because rows, columns, colored regions and adjacency all impose constraints. Solve by deduction—marking impossible cells and using intersections of constraints—rather than randomly trying placements. The rules appear in LinkedIn’s games overview.

How Crossclimb works

Crossclimb asks you to arrange trivia-based words into a ladder. Every adjacent pair must differ by exactly one letter. Once the ladder is arranged, the resulting structure supplies clues for the top and bottom words.

Start with words whose possible neighbors are limited, and use the trivia clues to identify likely endpoints. Check transitions letter by letter: a sequence can make semantic sense and still fail if two neighboring words differ in more than one position. Crossclimb combines vocabulary knowledge with a word-ladder constraint problem, and the recorded result includes both time and the order in which the ladder was filled.

Pinpoint, Queens and Crossclimb at a glance

Game Core task What the result records Best suited to
Pinpoint Identify the common category behind five clues, revealing as few as possible Number of clue reveals and solving path Category recognition and word association
Queens Place one queen per row, column and colored region without touching Time and the first three correctly placed grid colors Visual logic and constraint solving
Crossclimb Order words so adjacent entries differ by one letter, then solve endpoint clues Time and ladder-entry order Trivia, vocabulary and word ladders

How to find LinkedIn’s games

Current navigation varies by device, account state and app version. LinkedIn documents these routes in its game-access guide:

  • Open the LinkedIn Games hub.
  • Use LinkedIn Search and search for “games.”
  • Check the My Network page.
  • On desktop, open the “Today’s Games” module under LinkedIn News.
  • In the mobile app, use the games side panel.
  • Follow a game notification or direct game link.

LinkedIn releases a new puzzle for each game at midnight Pacific Time, and the previous puzzle expires at that reset (current rules; access FAQ). Midnight Pacific is not necessarily midnight where you live. If a new puzzle does not appear, refresh the browser or app; LinkedIn says its mobile widget can take several hours to update when the app has not been opened (widget guidance).

Scores, streaks, sharing and privacy

After finishing, a signed-in player may see a result, streak, performance averages and, where eligible, connection, company or school leaderboard information. Results can be shared and users can participate in daily discussion threads. LinkedIn says scores remain private unless a user shares them or opts into a connections leaderboard; a recruiter or employer would only see a score under those visibility conditions, such as being a qualifying connection whose leaderboard access is enabled (LinkedIn’s games FAQ).

Result cards differ by game. Pinpoint records clue reveals and the solving path. Queens records time and the first three correctly placed grid colors. Crossclimb records time and ladder-entry order. Some cards can also indicate “no mistakes” or “no hints” (score-sharing details).

LinkedIn states that the games have no prizes. Treat a score as a private recreational result or an optional social post, not as a professional qualification.

Playing without a LinkedIn account

Guest mode lets anyone open the Games hub or a direct game page without signing in. The trade-off is substantial: LinkedIn deletes a guest score after 30 minutes, and guest play does not save activity or streaks, send alerts, show leaderboards or connections who played, or provide direct sharing inside LinkedIn (guest-mode documentation). Language availability also varies: LinkedIn says the games can be played in English globally, while Queens, Tango, Zip, Mini Sudoku and Patches are accessible in all supported LinkedIn languages (FAQ).

What changed after the three-game launch?

The 2024 announcement describes the launch package, not the complete current product. As of August 2026, LinkedIn’s documentation lists eight games:

  • Pinpoint: common-category clues.
  • Crossclimb: one-letter word ladders with trivia clues.
  • Queens: region, row, column and adjacency logic.
  • Tango: fill a binary grid with equal counts, no runs of more than two identical symbols, and equality/difference clues.
  • Zip: draw a sequential path through numbered cells while filling the entire grid.
  • Mini Sudoku: a compact Sudoku-style number puzzle.
  • Patches: cover a grid with non-overlapping shapes according to the clues.
  • Wend: connect letters to find hidden words, using every letter exactly once.

LinkedIn announced Patches on March 18, 2026, describing it as a spatial-logic game inspired by Zip (announcement). That announcement also described connections leaderboards, planned reactions, favorite-connection tracking and previous-day leaderboard views; availability can vary as those features roll out. The current game list is the authoritative place to check what is offered.

Why LinkedIn added games

LinkedIn’s stated rationale is to give professionals a short mental break, exercise the mind and create another way to connect. The product also supplies a recurring reason to open LinkedIn, a low-pressure topic for conversations and an additional daily format for LinkedIn News. TechCrunch’s engagement interpretation is plausible from the daily reset, streaks and leaderboards, but it remains an attribution rather than a confirmed statement that engagement was the sole internal objective.

Nothing in the cited LinkedIn material establishes that a game result predicts job performance, improves career outcomes or demonstrates a particular cognitive skill. “Networking” in this context means optional interaction around scores and leaderboards, not a formal recruiting or networking tool.

Common problems and fixes

The game is missing

  1. Open the Games hub.
  2. Search LinkedIn for “games.”
  3. Check My Network, the desktop Today’s Games module, the mobile side panel and notifications.
  4. Confirm that the app is updated and that you are signed into the intended account.

My score or streak disappeared

Check whether you played as a guest, crossed the midnight Pacific reset, switched accounts or failed to complete the game while signed in. Guest activity is not saved, and an old daily puzzle expires.

I cannot see a connection’s score

Visibility depends on that person’s sharing and leaderboard settings. A missing score does not prove that the connection did not play (privacy and leaderboard rules).

I expected a prize or career benefit

LinkedIn says there are no prizes, and the games are not presented as résumé credentials or recruiter assessments.

The Bottom Line

Pinpoint, Queens and Crossclimb were genuine LinkedIn launch games announced on April 30, 2024, but they are now part of a larger eight-game daily lineup. You can play with or without an account; signing in is necessary for saved streaks, leaderboards and LinkedIn sharing.
