If you are new to live streaming, start with OBS’s official Quick Start Guide to learn basic production setup, then add platform-specific training for the service where you plan to stream. For Twitch creators, Twitch Creator Camp covers both going live and audience-building. If you want instructor-led, cross-platform teaching, Graduate School USA lists a streaming course—but confirm its current schedule and price before enrolling.
Choose a starting route that matches your goal
Live streaming involves several different skills: operating streaming software, using a particular platform’s broadcast workflow, and building an audience. You do not need to learn all three from one course. Pick the resource that fills your most immediate gap.
For streaming software and production setup: OBS Quick Start Guide
OBS’s official Quick Start Guide walks through the core setup sequence: run the Auto-Configuration Wizard, add sources to scenes, check audio, review output settings, and test before broadcasting. It is a practical first stop if you want to understand how a computer-based stream is assembled. The guide is dated August 25, 2021, so check OBS’s current knowledge base if interface details differ from what you see.
For Twitch-specific skills: Creator Camp Level 1
Twitch Creator Camp Level 1 is intended for new and returning creators. Its topics include going live from PC, mobile, PlayStation, and Xbox; branding; viewer engagement; community growth; creator tools; analytics; monetization; and copyright. Use it for Twitch’s workflows and creator resources, not as a substitute for checking another platform’s own instructions and policies.

Class Central lists a 17-minute beginner OBS tutorial by Justin Brown / Primal Video covering settings, platform connections, scenes, audio, going live, and virtual camera. What to learn, in a useful order
- Learn your platform’s broadcast workflow. Find out how that service starts a live broadcast and which account or channel tools it requires. Twitch Creator Camp separates its going-live guidance by device and platform.
- Build a simple scene. In OBS, a scene is a layout built from sources such as a camera, game or screen capture, image, and text. Start with only the inputs your broadcast needs.
- Check audio before adding extras. Confirm the intended microphone and desktop audio are active. Watch the OBS mixer meters while speaking or playing sound; if the wrong device is selected, choose the correct one manually.
- Review output settings and test. Inspect the output settings, then make a short recording or test broadcast before going public. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing for a few minutes to catch problems rather than jumping directly into a first stream.
- Learn the creator skills your platform supports. Add branding, engagement, community tools, analytics, monetization, and copyright topics as relevant. Twitch Creator Camp includes these alongside its technical guidance.
- Study cross-platform formats only if you need them. If you plan to publish on Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok, Graduate School USA’s syllabus includes all three and vertical streaming.

Practice your first setup before buying equipment
Use the gear you already have for a basic test. OBS says desktop audio and microphone capture are enabled by default; its guide shows how to check mixer meters and select devices manually. First see whether your current microphone produces a clear, active signal. The available guidance does not establish that buying a new microphone is a prerequisite or recommend a specific model.
- Run the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard.
- Create one simple scene and add the camera, screen, or game source you need.
- Speak and play sound while checking the mixer meters for the intended microphone and desktop audio.
- Review output settings and make a short private test or recording.
- Confirm the result on the platform you intend to use before your first public broadcast.
This is a preparation checklist, not a guarantee of quality on every computer, network, or streaming platform.

Use live learning and creator resources as supplements
Twitch describes Creator Camp LIVE as a monthly education show hosted by Twitch staff, ambassadors, and other streaming experts, with an archive of learning videos. Twitch notes that views expressed in the stream need not represent Twitch’s official position. It can complement the Level 1 curriculum if you want ongoing Twitch-oriented learning; check the Twitch Creator Camp page for current materials.
