If your prerecorded YouTube stream must keep running while your computer is off, LiveReacting’s documented cloud workflow is the more direct fit. OBS is free, but runs on your computer, which must remain on and connected. Neither description proves which service is more reliable in practice. For another cloud-hosted option, StreamNeo is built to loop uploaded videos on YouTube from the cloud, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.
LiveReacting vs. OBS: the practical difference
The key question is where the stream is encoded and sent from. LiveReacting describes its 24/7 workflow as running on its servers, so your computer can be off. OBS is desktop software: your computer and internet connection have to keep running for the stream to continue.
| Decision | LiveReacting | OBS Studio |
|---|---|---|
| Where the stream runs | Cloud-hosted, according to LiveReacting’s service description; the computer can be off. | On your computer; it must stay on and online. |
| Software/service cost | Dedicated 24/7 plan; see the listed rates below. | Free and open-source software, as described in LiveReacting’s comparison. Your computer, power and internet are separate costs. |
| Prerecorded continuous stream | A dedicated 24/7 plan is offered, with no service-set duration limit listed on the pages reviewed. YouTube’s archive and DVR limits still apply. | Possible as a locally operated encoder workflow, but it depends on your computer and connection staying available. |
| Setup style | Browser-based: upload or import media, arrange a playlist, connect YouTube, then start or schedule. | Desktop setup and local operation; YouTube’s encoder setup uses a stream URL and stream key. |
| Independent uptime comparison | Not established by the vendor comparison or workflow description. | Not established by the vendor comparison or workflow description. |
This is a comparison of vendor descriptions and YouTube guidance, not a hands-on test or independent reliability review.
When LiveReacting makes more sense
Choose LiveReacting when avoiding an always-on computer is the priority and a paid hosted service fits your budget. Its documented workflow lets you upload or import videos, build a playlist, connect your YouTube channel and start or schedule the stream in a browser. Its guide says to use material you made, own or are licensed to stream.

How much does LiveReacting cost for 24/7 streaming?
LiveReacting’s pricing page listed the 24/7 plan at $39.99 month to month or $33 per month billed annually for one concurrent stream when accessed October 3, 2026. The page also displayed a new-customer annual offer of $287.93 for the first year, with an expiry date of October 31, 2026. Prices and promotions can change; check LiveReacting’s pricing page before subscribing.
When OBS makes more sense
OBS is the better fit if you want free, locally operated software and already have a computer and network connection you can leave running. You retain local control, but you also take responsibility for the machine, power, internet, encoder configuration and recovery if the stream stops. A dedicated streaming PC is optional—not a universal OBS requirement—and no particular model or minimum specification is established by the available guidance.

Can OBS stream 24/7 on YouTube?
Yes, as a local encoder workflow, provided OBS, the computer and the network remain available. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says to connect using the stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it could potentially send a stream to your channel. If the computer sleeps, reboots, loses power or internet, the local stream can be interrupted.
Check YouTube readiness before either option
Both services ultimately send a stream to YouTube, so cloud hosting does not bypass YouTube’s channel or content rules.

- Eligibility: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Rights: Use video, music and other material that you created, own or have permission to stream. A live stream can still face copyright enforcement; permission for one use or platform does not automatically establish permission for another.
- Monitoring: YouTube warns that network disruptions can break a stream and recommends monitoring stream quality. Its live-streaming tips are relevant whether the encoder is on your PC or hosted elsewhere.
Will YouTube save a 24/7 live stream?
Do not treat a 24/7 service’s ability to keep broadcasting as a promise that YouTube will preserve one complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup; see YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
YouTube also says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. That is a separate limitation from whether an archive is created. See YouTube’s DVR guidance. If preserving the complete program matters, record a local copy where your workflow permits and verify that it is being saved rather than assuming the platform VOD will be complete.

What the comparison does—and does not—establish
LiveReacting’s descriptions support the operational distinction: its 24/7 workflow is hosted on its servers, while OBS runs locally. They do not establish a measured uptime advantage, a failure rate, or a controlled head-to-head reliability result. YouTube separately notes that network disruptions can interrupt a stream. Choose based on who will keep the stream environment running and what responsibilities you are willing to own, rather than treating “cloud” or “free” as proof of uninterrupted service.
Or let it run in the cloud

Frequently Asked Questions
Does OBS keep streaming if I close the laptop lid?
Not reliably: OBS runs on the computer, so a sleep or shutdown can interrupt the stream. Configure power settings to keep the machine awake, or use a hosted workflow.
Can I use either option for a camera livestream?
This comparison concerns prerecorded 24/7 video. StreamNeo, mentioned as a cloud alternative, loops uploaded videos and does not stream from a camera.
