If your LiveReacting stream is silent on YouTube, first find out whether the sound is missing for everyone or only one viewer, then check where it disappears: the viewer’s device, the LiveReacting source, or the outgoing stream. That simple split helps you avoid changing settings that are unrelated to the fault.
Start by locating where the sound disappears
Ask two questions: can you hear the audio in the source or encoder, and are all viewers affected or just one? Use the answers to choose the relevant checks.
- Only one viewer hears silence: start with that viewer’s YouTube player, browser, and device volume.
- The source is silent too: check the selected microphone, camera, or other audio input.
- A shared browser tab is silent: check LiveReacting’s screen-sharing mode and audio-sharing option.
- The source is audible but the published stream is silent: inspect the encoder’s audio path and output.
If only one viewer cannot hear the stream
Have the affected viewer check the YouTube player’s volume, the browser or device volume, and the device’s sound settings. YouTube’s sound troubleshooting guidance also recommends restarting the browser or device if those checks do not restore sound. If other viewers can hear the stream, begin here rather than changing the producer’s LiveReacting setup.
If shared tab audio is missing
LiveReacting documents audio sharing for Chrome tabs. When starting the share, choose Chrome Tab, enable Share Audio, and then click Share. Selecting an entire screen or an app window is not the documented route for sharing tab audio.

See LiveReacting’s screen-sharing instructions for its current steps. If you are not sharing a Chrome tab, test the sound through a supported source instead of assuming the tab’s audio is being sent.
If microphone or camera audio is missing
Check that LiveReacting has the intended audio device selected in its device dropdown and that the device is active. LiveReacting’s January 2025 feature post describes selecting camera and audio devices, including internal or external cameras and microphones; it also identifies the feature as beta, so issues or bugs may occur.

If you use an external microphone, confirm that the intended device—not a different available input—is selected. Buying a new microphone is not a first troubleshooting step: the problem may be a selected-input mismatch, tab-sharing setup, or downstream routing rather than faulty hardware.
Check LiveReacting’s audio quality setting
LiveReacting recommends setting audio quality to 128k unless you know the destination supports higher-quality audio input. It warns that higher settings could cause playback problems. Check what the encoder is actually sending
Listen to the stream directly in the encoder, and check a local recording or archive if you have one. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide recommends checking picture and sound in the encoder. If the encoder output is already silent, investigate the audio sources routed into it, encoder errors, and CPU load. If the encoder output sounds healthy but YouTube playback does not, investigate the outbound internet connection.
How many viewers are affected is another useful clue. YouTube distinguishes reports from one viewer, many viewers on the same network, and many viewers on different networks. That helps narrow whether the issue is likely local playback, a shared network, or the stream being sent out.

What to send support if the stream is still silent
If audio is audible at the source but missing from the published stream, collect the details that show where the signal stops. YouTube’s live-stream guide advises contacting its team about persistent streaming trouble.
- The LiveReacting source type: microphone, camera, uploaded audio, or shared tab.
- The selected audio device, if one is used.
- The browser and sharing mode, if the source is a shared tab or screen.
- Whether the encoder preview or local recording contains sound.
- Whether one viewer, viewers on one network, or viewers on different networks are affected.
