Logitech G’s POWERPLAY 2 widens the charging coverage and launched at a lower U.S. price than the original POWERPLAY, but it comes with only a cloth pad instead of both cloth and hard surfaces. It is a charging base for specific Logitech G mice—not a universal wireless charger—and the mouse is sold separately.
What POWERPLAY 2 does
POWERPLAY 2 is a two-part mouse-charging setup: a powered base sits beneath a removable mouse pad, and a POWERPLAY Coin fits into a compatible Logitech G mouse. The system is designed to charge the mouse while it is being used or resting on the mat, so you do not have to plug it in between sessions. Logitech describes charging as plug-and-play, without software being required for that function.
The Coin is a Logitech-specific component, not a generic Qi receiver. A regular wireless mouse, phone, or other brand’s device should not be expected to charge on the base.

| Thickness | 3.5 mm total: 2.2 mm base plus 1.3 mm cloth pad. Logitech G specifications | Approximately 4 mm, according to launch coverage. Android Headlines |

How large is the charging area?
Logitech says POWERPLAY 2’s charging surface is 15% larger. That figure describes the claimed charging coverage; it should not be read as a 15% increase in the visible mouse-pad area or as an independent test result.
Logitech lists the base at 344 × 340 mm and the included cloth surface at 344 × 284 mm. Those are different measurements: the larger figure is for the base, while the smaller one is the cloth pad on which the mouse moves. A larger charging field may give players more room for broad swipes before moving beyond the intended charging coverage, but it does not guarantee charging at every position. Placement, pad alignment, the Coin, and mouse model can matter. Players who keep the mouse near the center may notice less practical benefit than those who make large, low-sensitivity movements.

- G502 X LIGHTSPEED
- G502 LIGHTSPEED
- G703
- G903

- PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 DEX
- PRO X SUPERLIGHT

Check the exact mouse model against Logitech’s compatibility list before buying. Being a Logitech wireless mouse does not, by itself, mean a model supports POWERPLAY. Logitech says the system is intended to support current and future compatible Logitech G mice, but compatibility for a particular model should be confirmed rather than assumed.

Setup, receiver, and dimensions
- Place the POWERPLAY 2 base on your desk and position the included cloth pad on top.
- Connect the attached USB cable to a powered USB 2.0 port.
- Remove the mouse’s existing battery-door insert if the model requires it, then install the POWERPLAY Coin.
- Use the compatible mouse and check that it charges while resting on or moving across the pad.
The base is 2.2 mm thick and the cloth pad is 1.3 mm, for a listed combined thickness of 3.5 mm. Logitech lists one powered USB 2.0 port as the power requirement. The thinner profile may make the mat’s edge less pronounced on a desk, but that is a matter of preference rather than a measured comfort guarantee.
POWERPLAY 2 is a charging system, not a substitute for the mouse’s normal wireless receiver. Logitech’s dedicated product page says the mat does not include a wireless receiver. Keep the receiver or other connection method required by your particular mouse available; do not assume the charging base handles the mouse’s wireless data connection.

- Low Surface Friction: The hard surface of the mousepad gives the right amount of resistance to the mouse feet for sudden starts, stops, and rapid movement in low-DPI gaming and improved cursor control
- Consistent Surface Texture: Provides optimal imagery for the sensor to translate mouse movement into cursor movement in high speed gaming
- Designed for Optimal Performance: A surface texture close to the optimal testing environment gives PC gamers access to the fullest Logitech G Mouse sensor accuracy and precision
- Stable, Rigid, No-Slip Base: Keeps the hard gaming mouse pad in place during intense gaming action
- Durable Multi-Layer Construction: Gaming mousepad made to last with a hard tracking surface and strong polymer core
What comes in the box—and what does not
- POWERPLAY 2 base
- Cloth gaming mouse pad
- POWERPLAY 2 Coin
- Attached USB charging cable
- User documentation
A compatible mouse is not included. The cloth-only surface is a notable change for anyone comparing the package with the original POWERPLAY, which launch coverage says included both cloth and hard pads. If you prefer a hard surface, account for the cost and availability of an alternative pad before treating the lower launch price as a straightforward saving.

At the reported U.S. launch prices, POWERPLAY 2 was $20 less than the original: $99.99 instead of $119.99, a reduction of about 16.7%. That comparison is based on the launch figures reported on February 25, 2025, not a current retailer check. The product was reported available from March 11, 2025. Android Headlines’ launch coverage

The lower base price comes with fewer included surface options. POWERPLAY 2 may be a better-priced entry into the system for someone who wants a cloth pad, but a hard-pad user could need to buy another surface. Starting from scratch also means budgeting separately for a compatible Logitech G mouse. Logitech’s product page lists a two-year limited hardware warranty; the Hong Kong page also lists part number 947-000004, which may help identify that regional product listing.
Who should buy it—and who should keep looking?
POWERPLAY 2 makes sense if you
- Already own a mouse on Logitech’s POWERPLAY compatibility list.
- Want the convenience of charging during use instead of periodically connecting a cable.
- Prefer a cloth surface and value the larger claimed charging coverage or thinner profile.
- Want to enter Logitech’s charging ecosystem at a lower reported launch price than the original POWERPLAY.
It is a poor fit if you
- Use a non-Logitech mouse, want one charging pad to support multiple brands, or do not want a proprietary Coin.
- Want a genuinely oversized desk mat; the included cloth surface is listed as 344 × 284 mm.
- Prefer a hard pad and would rather not source one separately.
- Are content to charge by cable and do not value charging while playing.
- Expect the mat to replace the mouse’s normal wireless receiver.
For original POWERPLAY owners
An upgrade is most compelling if the larger claimed charging coverage or thinner construction addresses a problem in your current setup. If your existing mat works well and you value having both cloth and hard surfaces, the lower launch price of POWERPLAY 2 does not by itself make replacement an obvious improvement.
If charging does not start
- Confirm your exact mouse model appears on Logitech’s compatibility list.
- Remove and reseat the POWERPLAY Coin in the mouse.
- Check that the cloth pad is correctly positioned on the base.
- Confirm the base is connected to a powered USB port.
- Try the mouse by cable, if supported, to help distinguish a mouse or battery problem from a mat problem.
- Consult Logitech support documentation for your specific mouse if charging still does not work.
Because Logitech describes charging as plug-and-play and software-independent, do not assume a software installation will solve a seating, power, compatibility, or hardware issue. The available material does not establish independent results for edge-of-field charging, fast repeated swipes, heat, or long-term battery health, so the advertised coverage should not be treated as a guarantee of identical performance in every position or of a particular battery lifespan.
Verdict
POWERPLAY 2 is a sensible charging upgrade or entry point for Logitech G owners who have a compatible mouse and want continuous charging on a cloth pad. Its larger claimed charging field, thinner build, and lower reported launch price are balanced by the missing hard pad and the continued requirement for compatible Logitech hardware. Keep the original if it already meets your needs, especially if its hard surface matters; choose ordinary cable charging or another mouse ecosystem if you want broader compatibility.
