The Logitech G522 is best understood as a comfort-and-microphone upgrade rather than an automatic sound-quality champion. Its 290-gram suspension-band design, detachable boom mic, LIGHTSPEED wireless, Bluetooth 5.3, USB audio, and strong software controls make it a compelling PC and PS5 headset for long sessions. Its weaker points are the $159.99 U.S. launch MSRP, reliance on Logitech software for many customizations, non-replaceable battery, and lack of confirmed Xbox support.
At the approximately $130 price reported in some 2026 coverage, the G522 is easier to recommend. At full price, buy it mainly if comfort, microphone quality, and flexible connections matter more to you than the lowest cost or the most neutral music presentation.

What is the Logitech G522?
The G522 is a mid-range wireless gaming headset launched in May 2025. It sits below Logitech’s most expensive gaming models and is widely presented in independent coverage as the apparent successor or replacement for the older G733. It is available in black and white and combines a fabric-covered suspension headband with redesigned memory-foam earcups, RGB lighting, a removable microphone, and three connection methods.

“Tri-mode” does not mean that the headset mixes three audio streams simultaneously. It means you can select between low-latency LIGHTSPEED wireless, Bluetooth, and USB wired audio. It also does not make the G522 a universal console headset: Logitech’s listed platform support names Windows, macOS, and PlayStation 5, not Xbox.
Comfort and fit
Comfort is the G522’s clearest selling point. Logitech widened the earcups, added another layer of memory foam, changed the fabric covering, and used a reversible suspension band with ridges intended to improve breathability. The company says its fit testing included people who wear glasses or earrings, but that is manufacturer testing rather than a guarantee that the headset will suit every wearer.
The 290-gram weight is not exceptionally light on paper. The suspension band distributes some of that weight away from the crown, however, so it may feel less top-heavy than a conventional padded headband. Independent reviews from Tom’s Hardware and PCWorld rate the comfort highly, particularly for extended gaming.

- People with small heads may find the suspension band less secure or the earcups too large.
- Large ears may touch the driver enclosure rather than sitting fully inside the pads.
- Fabric pads can become warm during long sessions and may collect sweat, dust, or hair more readily than synthetic leather.
- Some users will prefer a stronger clamp or more passive isolation than this design provides.
- The weight and crown pressure remain noticeable for people who are especially sensitive to either.
The earcups and band are designed for comfort, not strong noise blocking. If you play in a noisy room and need substantial passive isolation, a closed headset with tighter-sealing synthetic-leather pads may be a better fit.
Connectivity: three useful modes, with limits
LIGHTSPEED wireless
LIGHTSPEED is the main gaming connection. Plug the included USB-A receiver into the computer or PS5, power on the headset, and select it as the output and microphone device if it is not chosen automatically. It is intended for low-latency gaming and is the preferred mode for competitive play.
Logitech lists wireless range of up to 30 metres, but walls, the position of a desktop case, nearby 2.4 GHz traffic, and other interference can reduce that figure. The receiver is USB-A, so a laptop or console with only USB-C ports may require an adapter or hub.
Bluetooth 5.3
Bluetooth is useful for phones, tablets, compatible computers, and casual listening. It is convenient when you do not want to use the receiver, but it is not the ideal choice for latency-sensitive competitive gaming. Bluetooth audio latency and available features can also vary by source device.

The USB-C port supports wired audio as well as charging. This is a practical fallback when the battery is low or you are troubleshooting wireless interference. The included cable is USB-A to USB-C, so the host device still needs a compatible port or adapter.
Do not assume that LIGHTSPEED and Bluetooth can be combined into a simultaneous game-and-phone mix. The G522 is better described as a headset with selectable connection modes than as a multi-stream mixer.
PC and PS5 setup
- For PC, connect the LIGHTSPEED receiver to a USB-A port and turn on the headset.
- In Windows, select the G522 for both output and microphone if it is not selected automatically.
- Install Logitech G HUB on Windows or macOS if you want EQ, Blue VO!CE, RGB, firmware, or profile controls.
- For PS5, connect the receiver to the console and select the headset in the audio settings if necessary.
- Use the headset’s physical controls for volume and muting on PS5.
Logitech’s quick-start guide covers the basic connection procedure. G HUB configuration is principally a Windows/macOS task; do not assume every software effect can be configured directly on PS5.
Sound quality
The G522 uses two 40 mm drivers. Logitech lists a 20 Hz–20 kHz frequency response, 38-ohm input impedance, sensitivity of 118.5 dB SPL ±3 dB, and maximum sound pressure of 95.3 dBA. It also advertises synchronized PRO-G drivers and 48 kHz/24-bit audio processing.

Driver size, bit depth, and frequency-response limits cannot by themselves establish sound quality. Independent reviews are generally positive about gaming audio, while some owners prefer EQ adjustments. That makes the default tuning and your willingness to use G HUB more important than the headline numbers.

Competitive games
In shooters, the G522 provides intelligible positional cues and enough separation for footsteps, voices, and effects to remain distinguishable. Its suitability depends on the game mix and your preferred tuning, but it is a capable competitive headset rather than one that requires a dedicated wired audio setup.
If you find the default bass or treble distracting, a modest FPS-oriented EQ may improve footstep emphasis. There is no universally correct curve: an adjustment that helps one game or listener can make another sound thin or unnatural.
Single-player games
The headset is more convincing for cinematic games when you want impact from explosions, music, and environmental effects. The exact balance is subjective. Some listeners may prefer more bass weight, while others may hear the default presentation as less neutral than they want.
Music and general listening
The G522 is primarily a gaming headset. Vocals and everyday media remain clear, but buyers seeking a neutral music-listening signature or audiophile-style wired performance should consider a dedicated wired headset or headphones instead. Bluetooth, LIGHTSPEED, and USB can also sound different because their processing paths and source devices differ.
Spatial audio
Do not treat “immersive” marketing language as proof of objective surround performance. The headset’s stereo imaging, Logitech processing, Windows spatial-audio options, and game-specific virtual surround systems are separate factors. Test spatial processing with familiar games: it can improve front-to-back perception for some listeners and make positioning less precise for others.
EQ matters
The recommendation does not require a particular EQ preset, but the G522 benefits from being treated as a customizable headset. Use the default profile first. Then compare it with a modest competitive profile and a warmer cinematic or music profile. If you dislike the default sound and do not want to install software, the G522 is less attractive than its microphone and comfort scores suggest.
Microphone quality
The detachable omnidirectional boom microphone is one of the G522’s strongest features. Logitech lists a 70 Hz–20 kHz microphone response and 48 kHz/16-bit processing. Independent reviews from PCWorld and GamesRadar are particularly positive about voice clarity.
For Discord, party chat, and game chat, the microphone should provide a more substantial and intelligible voice than many built-in headset microphones. Blue VO!CE in Logitech software adds filters and effects that can improve presence and control background sound, but it is processed audio rather than the raw microphone output. Aggressive settings can make speech sound artificial.
A fair assessment separates four things: the unprocessed microphone, Blue VO!CE-enhanced output, normal Discord or game-chat quality, and performance with keyboard or room noise. Logitech’s microphone claims and review descriptions should not be converted into a universal claim that it is the best gaming microphone.
The boom is removable, which is convenient if you use the G522 for music or travel. Physical mute control is also useful when moving between calls and games.
Battery life, charging, and controls
Logitech specifies up to 35 hours with default RGB lighting and up to 80 hours with lighting disabled. The headset contains a built-in 1,500 mAh lithium-ion battery, charges through USB-C, and takes approximately 4 hours 50 minutes to charge from empty to full while powered off.

The 80-hour figure is therefore not the normal all-features-on result. Actual life depends on RGB brightness and animation, volume, microphone use, connection mode, software behaviour, and battery age. The battery is not user-replaceable, which is a meaningful long-term ownership drawback.

Physical controls cover power, volume, muting, connectivity, and lighting or related headset functions depending on the assigned mode and control behaviour. They are especially important on PS5, where you should not expect the full G HUB feature set.

Logitech G HUB and Logitech G Mobile provide access to ten-band EQ, LIGHTSYNC RGB, microphone settings, Blue VO!CE effects, and profile management. Logitech says the headset can store up to three custom profiles directly on the device.
That flexibility is useful if you switch between competitive games, single-player titles, and voice chat. It also means the G522 is not at its best as a completely software-free product. Some functions require a Windows or macOS computer, software labels can change with updates, and a stored profile does not guarantee that every effect behaves identically on PS5 or Bluetooth.
For a sensible setup, start with one default profile, one competitive profile, and one general-use profile. Disable RGB in the profile you use most if battery life matters more than lighting.
Common problems and troubleshooting
LIGHTSPEED dropouts or reconnect loops
Possible causes include low battery, USB interference, a receiver hidden behind a desktop case, nearby 2.4 GHz congestion, firmware problems, or an overloaded USB hub. Some owners have reported connection problems at low battery levels, but those reports are anecdotal and do not establish a universal defect.
- Charge the headset well above the low-battery level.
- Move the receiver to a front-panel USB port or use a short USB extension.
- Avoid an unpowered hub and test another USB port.
- Confirm the correct Windows output and input devices.
- Update G HUB and headset firmware if an update is offered.
- Test Bluetooth or USB audio to determine whether the problem is specific to LIGHTSPEED.
- If the issue persists across ports and computers, contact Logitech support.
Low or inconsistent volume
Check Windows master volume, the per-application mixer, game output levels, spatial-audio settings, audio enhancements, and the active G HUB profile. Users report different volume experiences, and a competing headset may simply have a different gain structure. Do not assume that a low comparison level proves a hardware fault.
Robotic microphone audio
Intermittent robotic voice can result from wireless interference, connection instability, aggressive processing, Discord or game-chat processing, receiver placement, or software problems. Test with Blue VO!CE disabled, move the receiver, and compare USB audio with LIGHTSPEED. If the fault appears only wirelessly and persists after firmware and port checks, contact support.

The headset is not detected
Reconnect the receiver directly to the computer, restart G HUB, try another USB port, and check whether Windows sees the headset independently of the Logitech application. A hub, adapter, or permission issue can prevent G HUB from detecting a device even when basic audio works.
Price and value
The G522 launched at $159.99 in the United States. Reviews and pricing coverage in 2026 have described street prices around $130 in some market conditions, but that is not a permanent price guarantee. Check the retailer, region, colour, stock, return policy, and sale end date before buying. The official Logitech product page and a major retailer listing such as Best Buy’s listing are appropriate places to verify current availability.
At MSRP, the G522 must justify itself through comfort and microphone performance rather than simply through three connection modes. Around $130, its combination of long-session comfort, low-latency wireless, Bluetooth, USB fallback, and software-controlled voice features becomes substantially more competitive.
Who should buy the G522?
- Buy it if you play mainly on PC or PS5, wear a headset for several hours at a time, need a strong integrated microphone, and want both LIGHTSPEED and Bluetooth.
- Buy it on sale if you like the feature set but consider $159.99 too high. The approximately $130 price reported in 2026 coverage is a stronger value target.
- Choose something else if Xbox support, simultaneous Bluetooth-and-game mixing, a replaceable battery, strong passive isolation, or a neutral music signature is essential.
- Consider wired headphones and a separate microphone if you want to eliminate battery aging, wireless interference, and software dependence.
Verdict
The Logitech G522 is a well-rounded PC and PS5 wireless gaming headset whose best arguments are comfort, microphone quality, and connection flexibility. LIGHTSPEED is the mode for serious gaming, Bluetooth handles secondary devices, and USB audio gives you a useful wired fallback. The suspension band and fabric memory-foam pads are promising for long sessions, though fit, heat, clamp, and crown pressure remain personal variables.
Its sound is capable for competitive and single-player games, but the G522 is not automatically the best-sounding headset at its price. EQ may be necessary for your preferences, and the most useful software features require access to Windows or macOS. The 35-hour RGB battery figure is good rather than exceptional, while the 80-hour claim requires lighting to be disabled and the battery cannot be replaced.
Final recommendation: buy the G522 when comfort and voice quality are your priorities, especially around $130. At the full $159.99 launch price, purchase it only if those strengths matter more to you than broader platform support, simultaneous-device audio, passive isolation, or long-term battery serviceability.
