Yes: every keyboard in Logitech G’s G915 X family has a USB-C port for charging and wired data, replacing the Micro-USB connection on the original wireless G915 models. But “G915 X” refers to three different keyboards—two wireless and one wired—and the update also brings PBT keycaps, a thicker aluminum top plate and other changes. USB-C alone may not justify an upgrade if your original G915 still works well.
Three G915 X keyboards, not one
Logitech announced the G915 X family in September 2024. The names are similar, but the models differ in size and connectivity:

Those are launch MSRPs, not current prices; actual prices, layouts and switch options vary by country and retailer. The wireless full-size and TKL models are offered with Linear, Tactile or Clicky switches. The wired full-size model is listed with Linear or Tactile switches.

What USB-C changes—and what it doesn’t
On the wireless models, USB-C handles charging and wired data, so you can use the keyboard over a cable while charging. The connector is reversible, and USB-C cables are more common than Micro-USB ones, making it a welcome fix for a frustrating point on the original G915. It does not make the wireless receiver USB-C: the LIGHTSPEED receiver is a separate USB accessory supplied with an adapter. If your laptop has only USB-C ports, you may need an adapter or hub to use the receiver.

Also check the cable in the box rather than assuming it will suit every computer. Logitech’s TKL specification lists a USB-A-to-USB-C cable. A computer with only USB-C ports may need a USB-C-to-USB-C data cable or an adapter for wired use; not every cable is suitable for data.
The wireless models have three distinct connection options: LIGHTSPEED through the receiver, Bluetooth, or a wired USB connection. LIGHTSPEED is the mode intended for low-latency gaming; Bluetooth is useful for convenience and compatible secondary devices. Bluetooth support does not mean that every gaming or customization feature behaves identically across modes. The wired G915 X has no wireless connection.

What else is new compared with the original G915?
- Double-shot PBT keycaps: The G915 X replaces the original’s ABS keycaps with PBT. PBT is generally more resistant to wear, though surface texture and feel are personal preferences.
- Standard-style switch stems: The revised stems improve compatibility with aftermarket MX-style keycaps. They do not make the switches hot-swappable.
- Thicker aluminum top plate: A build refinement, rather than a new gaming feature.
- KEYCONTROL: Logitech’s software-based system allows layered remapping, with up to 15 functions per key according to Logitech. That means configurable assignments, not 15 simultaneous physical inputs. Advanced customization uses Logitech G HUB.
- A wired version: The full-size G915 X offers the family’s low-profile design and USB-C without wireless hardware or wireless modes.
- Longer claimed battery life: Logitech publishes higher maximum figures for the wireless models, but actual runtime depends on lighting and use.
The core low-profile mechanical concept remains. Logitech lists a 1.3 mm actuation point and 3.2 mm total travel for the GL switches, with approximate actuation forces of 43 g for Linear, 45 g for Tactile and 48 g for Clicky. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that the keyboard will feel faster or better to every player. Low-profile boards have shorter travel and different keycap geometry from standard-height mechanical keyboards.

Battery life: read the conditions
Logitech’s figures are maximum claims, not a promise of typical runtime. For the full-size G915 X LIGHTSPEED, Logitech claims up to 800 hours with backlighting off, or up to 36 hours with RGB at 100% brightness using LIGHTSPEED. For the TKL, it claims up to 1,000 hours with lighting off and up to 42 hours at 100% RGB brightness; its product page also lists up to 100 hours at 50% brightness. Brightness, effects, wireless mode, polling behavior and usage all affect battery life.

Full-size or TKL?
Choose a full-size model if you regularly use a number pad. The full-size boards also have dedicated media controls and a volume roller; the wired G915 X includes nine dedicated G-keys. The TKL removes the number pad for a smaller footprint. Logitech lists the TKL at 368 × 150 × 22.6 mm and 860 g, excluding its cable; the wired full-size model measures about 475 × 150 × 22.6 mm and weighs 1,040 g.
For a wireless gaming setup, the TKL is the more compact option, while the full-size LIGHTSPEED model keeps the number pad. If you do not need wireless operation, the wired G915 X avoids paying for wireless modes—but confirm local availability and pricing before comparing it with the wireless versions.

Compatibility and software
For the G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL, Logitech lists LIGHTSPEED support with a USB port on Windows 10 or 11 and macOS 10.11 or later. Its Bluetooth compatibility list includes Windows 11 or later, macOS 11 or later, ChromeOS, Android 4.3 or later and iOS 10 or later. These are the listed requirements for that model; do not assume every advanced gaming feature is available in every operating system or connection mode.
G HUB is optional for basic typing, but Logitech says internet access may be needed for advanced configuration. Plan to use it if you want extensive remapping, profiles, macros or lighting customization. Check current G HUB support and onboard-memory behavior for the specific model if you need your settings to travel between computers.
Should you replace an original G915?
The G915 X is a more complete refresh than a connector swap, but independent reviews describe its gaming-performance improvements over the original as modest. RTINGS reports strong latency and improved build details, while also noting that the upgrade is not a dramatic performance leap. The clearest reasons to switch are a failing Micro-USB port or cable, a desire for PBT keycaps and standard-style stems, or a preference for USB-C convenience.
- Consider upgrading if the old connector is unreliable, you want the revised keycaps and build, or you are buying your first low-profile mechanical board and value Logitech’s LIGHTSPEED ecosystem.
- Keep the original if it works, you like its feel, and the G915 X costs substantially more than a discounted G915. USB-C is convenient, but it does not by itself transform the typing or gaming experience.
- Look elsewhere if you want hot-swappable switches, Hall-effect sensing, adjustable actuation or Rapid Trigger. The G915 X does not offer those features. Boards such as the Keychron K5 Max or NuPhy Air96 V2 are other low-profile wireless options; Hall-effect models may better suit players seeking adjustable actuation. Compare exact layouts, features and current prices before choosing.
There are other fit considerations. Low-profile keys can feel shallow or unfamiliar if you prefer standard-height boards. The TKL lacks a number pad; the full-size wireless model is comparatively bulky and heavy. RTINGS also notes that the full-size G915 X LIGHTSPEED does not support multi-device Bluetooth pairing, so do not buy it expecting effortless switching among multiple paired devices.
