Logitech launched MX Ink in 2024, not 2026. It remains listed as a Meta Quest accessory: a pressure-sensitive, 6DoF-tracked mixed-reality stylus for Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest 3S running Meta Quest OS v69 or later. It complements Touch controllers and hand tracking rather than replacing them, and its value depends largely on whether your preferred Quest app supports its pen, button and spatial features.
What is Logitech MX Ink?
MX Ink is a tracked mixed-reality stylus designed for Meta Quest. The headset tracks its position and orientation in six degrees of freedom, while the stylus adds pressure sensing, physical buttons and haptic feedback. You can write or draw on a desk, sheet of paper or whiteboard while viewing corresponding mixed-reality content, or use the pen in the air for 3D work.
Logitech positions it for sketching, annotation, navigation, modeling, design reviews and collaboration. It is a “Made for Meta” accessory with controls exposed through Quest settings. Logitech describes the device as moving between physical 2D surfaces and room-scale 3D environments; individual applications determine which of those capabilities they actually expose. A conventional graphics-tablet pen relies on a digitizer surface connected to a computer or tablet. MX Ink is itself a tracked spatial controller, so it can operate on a physical surface or in mid-air inside a Quest scene. Its tip measures writing or drawing pressure, and a separate middle pressure input supports cursor and selection interaction.

That does not turn Quest into a conventional pen-display tablet. The experience requires a compatible Quest application, and pressure, buttons, haptics and 3D behavior may vary by app. MX Ink also is not a universal stylus for phones, iPads or Windows PCs.

What can you do with MX Ink?
Art and 3D creation
Supported or announced examples include Painting VR, OpenBrush, Gravity Sketch, Adobe Substance 3D Modeler and ShapesXR. The stylus is intended for pressure-sensitive strokes, spatial sketching, sculpting and more controlled manipulation than finger tracking.

In tools such as ENGAGE XR, MX Ink can support virtual whiteboards, annotation, workshops and classroom activities. The physical pen shape can make demonstrations and shared design reviews easier for people who already work with markers or pencils.

Professional visualization
Logitech has also identified architectural and medical workflows, including Arkio and Elucis by Realize Medical. Those references indicate intended use, not a guarantee of professional-grade results or feature parity in every release; verify the software’s current MX Ink support.

Default controls
- Front button: Grab.
- Rear button: A; double-tap for B.
- Meta button: Universal Menu.
- Hold Meta for two seconds: Re-center the headset view.
- Hold Meta for five seconds: Power off.
- Tip: Pressure-sensitive writing and drawing input.
- Middle pressure input: Cursor and selection interaction.
Quest settings allow right- or left-handed use, haptics, the pressure curve, initial activation force and button mapping to be adjusted. Configuration guide

The Inkwell is optional: MX Ink can charge over USB-C. The MX Mat is likewise optional and matters mainly if you want a consistent desk surface for physical writing or drawing. MX Mat product page
How to pair MX Ink with Quest
- Turn on the Quest headset.
- Hold the stylus Meta button for two seconds to turn MX Ink on.
- Open the Meta Horizon mobile app.
- Choose Headset Settings → Controllers → Pair New Controller → Pair Stylus.
- Hold the MX Ink Rear button and Meta button together for four seconds.
- After pairing, configure the device on the headset at Settings → Devices → Stylus.
If pairing fails
- Confirm the headset is Quest 2, Quest 3 or Quest 3S and is running OS v69 or later.
- Charge the stylus, then hold Meta for two seconds to wake it.
- Pairing mode is indicated by the LED blinking white twice repeatedly.
- Disconnect MX Ink from another headset before trying again.
- Update the Meta Horizon app.
- If Pair Stylus is unavailable, Logitech-related developer material describes pairing as a Quest 3 right-controller fallback in some circumstances. Treat that as a workaround, not the normal setup path.
Meta’s mobile-app labels can change, so use the current wording shown in your app. Logitech’s support page also notes that its standalone Firmware Update Tool is no longer maintained; do not rely on it for updates.
Who should buy MX Ink?
- Artists and designers: A strong candidate if your main app supports pressure and spatial input.
- Educators and collaborators: Potentially useful for supported whiteboard, classroom and design-review software.
- Casual VR gamers: Usually a poor fit; Touch controllers are better for broad VR interaction and games.
- Quest Pro owners: Do not buy on the assumption of compatibility; Quest Pro is not on Logitech’s current listed headset list.
- Existing Touch-controller users: MX Ink is complementary, not a general replacement.
Key limitations to consider
- App support is the central dependency; “works with Quest” does not mean every app exposes pressure, buttons or 3D functions.
- Only one MX Ink is specified alongside Touch controllers, so do not assume a two-stylus workflow.
- It is not a cross-platform iPad, phone or PC stylus, nor a standalone conventional drawing tablet.
- The USB-C charging cable is not included.
- Haptics can substantially reduce runtime from the headline seven-hour estimate.
- Physical-surface use still requires a suitable real surface and an application designed to use it; pressure sensing is not force feedback.
Verdict
MX Ink is a specialized precision accessory whose hardware combines a familiar pen form with spatial tracking, pressure input, buttons and haptics. It makes the most sense for Quest 2, Quest 3 or Quest 3S owners already using a compatible art, modeling, whiteboard or design application. For gaming-only users, Quest Pro owners, or anyone expecting a universal tablet pen, the price and ecosystem limits outweigh its advantages.
