This guide covers Lords of the Fallen, the 2023 action RPG—not the separate 2014 game. It explains the two realms, character development, co-op progression choices, crossplay and where to check platform and edition information.
What is Lords of the Fallen (2023)?
Lords of the Fallen is an action RPG released on October 13, 2023. CI Games describes it as a reboot of the 2014 action RPG. The 2023 game is listed for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. CI Games’ official support page is the clearest reference for distinguishing this release from the older game.
How do the two realms work?
The game connects the living realm, Axiom, with Umbral, the realm of the dead. The Umbral Lamp lets the player cross between worlds, uncover hidden places and treasure, and interact with enemies’ souls. Moving between realms is part of exploration as well as combat, rather than a separate game mode. The official feature page describes the realm premise and the Lamp’s role.

How do character classes and development work?
You customize your character’s appearance, choose a starting class and develop the character through stats, weapons, armor and spells. The published class count is inconsistent: CI Games’ support page says thirteen classes, while its feature page and the PlayStation listing say nine. Those official pages do not reconcile the difference, so a single number should not be treated as settled without checking the game build or receiving clarification from the publisher. How does co-op progression work?
At a Vestige, open Multiplayer, set a password and share it with the other player. Both players should select the same progression mode. To use matchmaking rather than invite a password-matched friend, leave the password field empty. The April 6, 2026 co-op update also reports improved session stability and Steam Deck performance, plus a fix for a PS5 DualSense controller issue on Steam.

These mode and reward distinctions are described in the official co-op FAQ; the expanded interaction permissions come from the April 2026 update. Loot dropped when a player dies stays in the world and can be collected after that player is revived.

Check compatibility before choosing Shared Progression
The official FAQ says partners need the same NG level and main-boss counts within one boss of each other. It recommends that both players use the same progression mode and password. If a guest’s story state differs, the host’s state governs the shared session; the guest’s solo save is not replaced as a separate save.
Crossplay, subscriptions and Friend’s Pass
Crossplay is available, and password matchmaking works across platforms in most of the multiplayer modes listed by the official FAQ. Cross-progression is not available, so progress does not transfer between platforms. Online play on PlayStation and Xbox requires the relevant console online subscription, according to CI Games’ support page.

Free Friend’s Pass allows someone who does not own the full game to join an owner’s adventure in either co-op progression mode, from the first area through the final boss. Saving depends on session type; if the Friend’s Pass player leaves to the main menu, their progress is not saved. Check the co-op FAQ for the applicable session details.

For physical copies, CI Games’ support page directs players to the official purchase site; confirm that the format, edition and stock are available in your region before ordering. The PlayStation store page lists Standard and Deluxe editions for PS5. Its Deluxe Edition includes the Dark Crusader Starting Class, Dark Crusader armor and weapon set, a 100-page digital artbook, digital soundtrack and 3D Model Viewer.
