- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices and open Printers & scanners.

- If the device is present, select it and choose Remove.
- Open the official Lexmark Drivers & downloads portal in your browser.
- Search for the exact model.
- Select your Windows version and system architecture.
- Download the complete printer, scanner, multifunction, or network-scan package. Avoid packages that contain only an individual DLL.
- Run the installer as administrator. Right-click the installer, select Show more options if necessary, choose Run as administrator, and follow the setup prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Reconnect or re-add the Lexmark device from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
The repair worked if the original Lexmark utility opens, printing works, scanning works, and the error does not return after restarting. If the installer refuses to run, reports that the operating system is unsupported, or does not list your model, continue with the compatibility checks below rather than forcing a random DLL into Windows.
For an X642e, historic package names include printer, network-scan, and PCL-emulation drivers for older Windows releases. Those package names are archival information and do not prove that a compatible Windows 10 or Windows 11 package is still available.

Fix 2: Check 32-bit, 64-bit, and Windows compatibility
Public file databases disagree about the architecture and size of lxa2comc.dll. One record describes a 32-bit file, while another places a different-sized copy in a 64-bit Windows DriverStore path. These are not authoritative version records, so do not choose a file based on a database listing.
Check your Windows architecture:

A 32-bit application cannot load a 64-bit DLL, and a 64-bit application cannot use a 32-bit DLL in the same way. Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an old driver component, particularly after a cleanup or security scan.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving the Lexmark installation.
- Check the file’s location, publisher, and source.
- Restore it only if it came from a trusted, digitally signed Lexmark installer and the detection is demonstrably false.
Do not allow the file merely because restoring it makes the error disappear. Microsoft warns that allowing an unsafe file can expose the computer. If the file came from a random DLL website, delete it and reinstall the official Lexmark package instead.

After restoring a verified file, run the Lexmark installer again so the package can recreate missing services, INF registrations, and companion components. The repair worked when the printer or scanner functions normally after a restart. If Windows Security immediately quarantines the file again, stop and use a newer compatible package or contact Lexmark support.
Fix 4: Remove stale Lexmark software
If the error appears when you sign in but the old Lexmark device is no longer used, a startup utility may still be trying to load the missing component.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Lexmark.
- Select the obsolete Lexmark printer or scanner software.
- Choose Uninstall and restart Windows.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Disable a clearly identified Lexmark startup entry if it remains.
Do not delete random registry values or startup files. If the error disappears after uninstalling the unused Lexmark software, the stale startup reference was the cause. If you still use the device, reinstall its complete driver package instead of removing the software.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Windows repair commands are secondary fixes here. lxa2comc.dll is associated with third-party Lexmark software, so DISM and SFC generally will not recreate it. They can repair Windows components that prevent installers or device services from working correctly.

- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Then enter:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Success means DISM completes without an error and SFC reports that it repaired corrupt files or found no integrity violations. Reinstall the Lexmark package after the restart. If either command reports an error, copy the exact result and repair Windows before repeating the Lexmark installation.

Fix 6: Use System Restore if the failure is recent

- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Restart Windows.
System Restore worked if the Lexmark software loads without the error. If no suitable restore point exists, return to the official Lexmark driver repair instead. A successful SFC scan does not prove that the Lexmark package itself is intact.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL separately
Random DLL download sites can provide the wrong version, wrong architecture, an unsigned file, or malware. Even a genuine copy may not match the Lexmark INF, scanner components, USB files, services, or dependencies installed on your computer.

Do not copy lxa2comc.dll into System32, SysWOW64, the application folder, or another arbitrary directory. Install the complete package for the exact Lexmark model.
Do not use regsvr32 as a universal repair
regsvr32 applies to DLLs that provide the required self-registration entry point. There is no verified evidence that this Lexmark driver DLL should be registered manually. Printer and scanner components should be installed through their driver package and INF.
If you run regsvr32 and receive an entry-point or module error, that does not prove the DLL is fixed or broken. Stop using that method and reinstall the complete Lexmark package.
