How many vehicles are in Mario Kart World?
Super Mario Wiki’s consulted roster lists 40 vehicles: 21 karts, 11 bikes, six trikes, and two mobiles. It reports that 11 are available from the start and the rest are unlocked. These are community-maintained roster figures, not totals published by Nintendo, so they may change as the game is updated. Vehicle classes describe the overall design. Unlike the modular customization in Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart World does not use separate body, wheel, and glider components to build a vehicle; you choose a complete vehicle design. Super Mario Wiki describes this change in its roster article.
How do you unlock vehicles?
Collect coins during play: Nintendo’s official Drivers & Vehicles page says, “Collect coins to unlock new vehicles.” The roster article reports that individual vehicles unlock after reaching certain coin amounts, but the consulted sources do not establish a complete, verified threshold list.

How do vehicle choice and customization work?
A vehicle is one part of a broader combination. Nintendo presents the selection as a mix of driver, outfit, and vehicle, so choosing a vehicle does not mean choosing your entire loadout. See Nintendo’s official Drivers & Vehicles page for that framing.
A June 3, 2025 NintendoSoup guide describes four displayed vehicle stats: Speed, Acceleration, Weight, and Handling. It does not provide a validated comparative performance analysis here, so those labels alone are not enough to establish which vehicle is best for a particular player or course. NintendoSoup’s guide also uses an older classification: 23 karts, 11 bikes, and six ATVs. That differs from the roster categories above; the two descriptions should not be combined as if they were a single current count.
