Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a tactical RPG built around two equally important rhythms: card-driven missions and quieter stretches at the Abbey, where the Hunter explores and builds relationships with fellow heroes. It is a better fit for players who welcome both than for anyone looking only for uninterrupted battlefield tactics.
How the combat works
You play as the Hunter, a customizable original Marvel hero who leads a team of up to three heroes on missions against Lilith and her demonic forces. The roster draws on groups including the Avengers, X-Men and Runaways.
Each hero has a distinct set of ability cards, which you can arrange to suit your preferred play style. That makes team selection and the cards you bring central to how a mission unfolds. The battlefield also offers environmental interactions: heroes can shove, leap and smash enemies, so positioning and surroundings matter alongside card use. 2K describes the game as combining tactical strategy with RPG story, customization and progression in its gameplay overview.
The card system is the defining twist on a conventional turn-based tactics setup: hero abilities are presented as cards, and the available cards differ by character. If you enjoy adapting tactics around a team’s abilities, that premise is likely to appeal. If you want a pure tactics game with little downtime between battles, the Abbey loop is an important part of the decision.

The Abbey is a substantial part of the game
Between missions, the Hunter returns to the Abbey, a mystical base that can be explored freely. There, you can talk with heroes, make dialogue choices, spend time together, give gifts and develop friendships. Relationship progression can unlock abilities, linking this social side to character development rather than leaving it as a detached menu feature.
This is not simply a staging area on the way to the next fight. The game deliberately alternates combat with exploration and character interactions. Whether that balance works for you depends on how much you want the Marvel cast’s quieter, personal moments alongside tactical encounters.

2K’s edition FAQ, updated July 7, 2026, lists four editions, but platform availability and format differ. Treat the table as a guide to the FAQ’s current listing, not as a guarantee of stock or a particular retailer’s contents. Check the store listing for your region and platform before buying.

The Season Pass covers four DLC packs. 2K’s later platform and DLC update identifies Blood Storm as the fourth and final post-launch pack; it adds Storm, story missions, an Abbey upgrade and cosmetics. Each pack includes three story missions. Completing all 12 missions after buying all four packs or the Season Pass unlocks a bonus mission.

That same update says the PS4 and Xbox One editions launched digitally only and that the planned Switch version is no longer offered. Older announcements mentioning Switch reflect an earlier plan, not current availability. Because listings and included content can vary by region and retailer, confirm the exact edition and DLC before checkout. 2K’s edition FAQ is the latest source for the edition lineup cited here; prices are not included because current pricing was not established.

Who should consider it?
- A strong match: players who enjoy turn-based team tactics, character-specific abilities and planning around battlefield interactions, and who are also interested in exploring a hub and spending time with the cast.
- A less natural fit: players seeking back-to-back tactical missions with minimal dialogue, exploration or relationship-building.
- Before choosing an edition: decide whether the base game is enough or whether you want the Season Pass and cosmetic content, then verify the platform, format and included DLC in the current listing.
