That does not confirm he is ready to play in a particular game: no appearance date, minutes plan or game availability was established in the report.
What does “cleared” mean for Payne?
RotoWire reported that Payne was “available for all basketball activities,” attributing the update to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. The report supports saying he was cleared to participate in basketball activities; it is not a Maryland announcement or confirmation that he will play in an upcoming game.
The cited information does not establish his game fitness, a planned workload or a return date. Payne’s injury diagnosis and medical prognosis also remain unconfirmed.
When could Pharrel Payne return to a game?
There is no confirmed game appearance date in the available reporting. Maryland’s schedule lists exhibition games against Georgia Tech on October 11 and West Virginia on October 18, 2026, but Payne has not been confirmed for either.

Why has Payne been out?
Maryland’s official player bio says Payne missed the final 21 games of the 2025–26 season because of injury. The school’s 2025–26 roster separately says he missed 23 games overall; those are the page’s different descriptions, so the final-21-games figure specifically describes the closing stretch of the season.
Payne’s role and 2025–26 numbers
Maryland lists Payne as a redshirt senior and forward-center on its 2026–27 roster. In 10 games during the 2025–26 season, the school records him at 17.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Maryland’s 2025–26 roster says he started all 10 games he played.
