It weighs approximately 49 g in black or 50 g in white, uses the Focus Pro 50K Optical Sensor Gen-3, and supports up to 8,000Hz polling in both wired and wireless modes. Razer claims up to 180 hours of battery life at 1,000Hz, while 8,000Hz operation is rated at approximately 45 hours. The US list price is $159.99.
Those specifications make it a compelling lightweight FPS mouse, but not an automatic upgrade for everyone. Shape, grip, click feel, computer workload and the price of the previous Viper V3 Pro matter more than a 50,000-DPI headline.

The V4 Pro is about 5 g lighter than the equivalent V3 Pro color. It also adds Razer’s Gen-2 HyperSpeed wireless system, a Gen-3 sensor with Frame Sync, Gen-4 optical switches and an optical wheel. Independent coverage describes the overall shell as largely carried over rather than a radical redesign; see the RTINGS review for shape and comparison context.

What the lower weight feels like
Removing roughly 5 g can make rapid flicks, broad low-sensitivity sweeps and repeated repositioning feel less tiring. That is most relevant to competitive FPS players who move the mouse across a large pad and use fingertip, claw or relaxed-claw grips.
Weight is not the same thing as comfort. Balance, shell height, hump position, rear width, coating and button geometry can matter more than the number on a scale. Some players prefer extra mass for a planted, controlled feel. The approximately 1 g difference between black and white editions is unlikely to be noticeable in normal play.
At 127.1 × 63.9 × 39.9 mm, the V4 Pro should be judged against the shape of your current mouse, not simply an “ambidextrous” label. Its shell is broadly symmetrical, but left-side buttons make it a right-handed choice in practical use. It is better understood as a lightweight competitive design than as a large, palm-support ergonomic mouse.
50,000 DPI and the Gen-3 sensor
The Focus Pro 50K Optical Sensor Gen-3 has a maximum sensitivity of 50,000 DPI, maximum tracking speed of 930 IPS and maximum acceleration of 90 G. These are upper limits, not sensible everyday settings for most players. Competitive users generally run far lower effective sensitivity.

The useful questions are whether tracking remains consistent, lift-off behavior suits you, motion latency is low and the sensor works reliably on your surface. Razer’s software supports one-DPI-step adjustments, Smart Tracking, Sensitivity Matcher, Dynamic Sensitivity, Mouse Rotation and 26 Asymmetric Cut-Off levels. Those controls are options, not settings every player needs.
Frame Sync
Razer says Frame Sync aligns sensor frames with the mouse’s scanning and polling cycle, reducing redundant updates and improving power efficiency while lowering motion latency. Razer also claims an approximately 2.5-times faster motion-latency result against its stated comparison baseline. That is a manufacturer comparison, not an independently established universal result, and it should not be treated as a guarantee that every player will feel a dramatic difference.
What 8,000Hz polling actually changes
Polling rate determines how often the mouse reports its position. At 1,000Hz, the nominal interval is 1 millisecond; at 8,000Hz, it is 0.125 milliseconds. More frequent reports can make cursor updates finer and reduce measured input latency, particularly on high-refresh-rate displays and systems capable of processing the additional workload.
The improvement is not proportional to the number printed on the box. CPU load, game-engine support, monitor refresh rate and your own sensitivity affect whether the change is useful. Battery life also falls sharply:

Use 1,000Hz for maximum endurance and ordinary desktop work. Try 2,000Hz or 4,000Hz as a compromise if Synapse exposes those stages and your system remains smooth. Reserve 8,000Hz for an enthusiast setup where the display, game and CPU can sustain it and the shorter runtime is acceptable. Independent reviews, including TechRadar’s coverage, generally treat 8,000Hz as unnecessary for most users.
Battery, charging and wireless behavior
The battery figures are usage-condition estimates, not guaranteed mixed-use runtimes. Polling rate is the main stated trade-off. The V4 Pro charges over USB-C and can operate as a wired mouse while the cable is connected, so the same cable handles charging and data.
There is no RGB lighting to consume battery, but the mouse is not compatible with a charging dock. If your battery drains unexpectedly, check the polling setting first, then firmware and whether the runtime estimate is being mistaken for a guarantee.
For wireless stutter or missed inputs, place the receiver close to the mouse, reduce potential USB interference, test wired operation and apply a relevant firmware update if Razer provides one. A polling-rate tester may not show 8,000Hz consistently because results vary with software, operating-system load and test method.

Switches, wheel and controls
Gen-4 optical mouse switches are rated for 100 million clicks. Optical designs are intended to avoid traditional mechanical-contact debounce problems, but a lifespan rating does not guarantee immunity from every failure. Pre-travel, post-travel, sound and actuation force still determine whether the clicks suit you; a very light or accidental-feeling click is a personal fit issue.
The optical 24-step scroll wheel is a separate differentiator. Razer does not list tilt-scroll functionality. Its support specification lists six programmable buttons, so button counts that call it a five-button mouse are using a different physical-control convention.

Other Viper options
| Model | Best suited to | Observed detail |
|---|---|---|
| Viper V3 Pro | Buyers who want the core lightweight Viper experience for less | $119.99 sale price during the observed crawl |
| Viper V3 HyperSpeed | Value and battery endurance over low weight | $69.99 listing, up to 280 hours advertised, 82 g |

Verdict
The Viper V4 Pro is a refined flagship rather than a revolutionary redesign. Its strongest practical upgrades are the approximately 49–50 g weight, improved advertised battery claim at 1,000Hz, Gen-3 sensor and updated wireless and switch hardware. For a competitive FPS player whose grip suits the Viper shape, those refinements can justify $159.99. A satisfied V3 Pro owner, Bluetooth user, dock owner or value-focused buyer has a stronger reason to keep the older model or wait for a discount.
