Metal Slug Infinity was an officially licensed iOS spin-off built around idle progression, not the arcade series’ direct run-and-gun action. It is not a currently playable iOS game: a community-maintained Metal Slug reference reports that its service ended on September 30, 2021.
What was Metal Slug Infinity on iOS?
Metal Slug Infinity was a mobile game developed and published by Ekkorr, using the Metal Slug license from SNK. SNK’s franchise history records it in June 2019 for iOS and Android and names Ekkorr Games. The game’s format made it a spin-off rather than a mobile port of one of the arcade entries. SNK’s Metal Slug history provides the official series context; a preserved App Store game-description record identifies its licensing and developer.
How did its gameplay differ from classic Metal Slug?
Historical promotional copy describes Infinity as an idle tapper RPG. Rather than directly steering a soldier through a side-scrolling battlefield, players assembled a team, improved units and tanks, and managed resources while combat advanced automatically along a tower-defense-style lane. The descriptions also mention optional active input and asynchronous PvP. These are features reported in preserved promotional and reference material, not findings from hands-on testing. That shift is the key to judging the game’s fit for a series fan: Infinity used familiar characters and setting, but traded direct movement, aiming, and moment-to-moment combat for automated battles and incremental team development. Someone seeking a classic Metal Slug arcade experience would have been looking for a different kind of game.

Can you still play Metal Slug Infinity on an iPhone?
It should not be treated as a currently playable iOS release. The community-maintained Metal Slug reference reports that service ended on September 30, 2021, attributing the shutdown to the end of the license agreement. That date and explanation are secondary reporting; no primary shutdown notice was located. An old listing or archived description establishes the game’s history, not that its services or gameplay still work on current iPhones. The reference’s service-status entry gives the reported date and reason.
What can you play instead on iOS?
For the original series’ run-and-gun action, Apple’s US App Store lists METAL SLUG ACA NEOGEO, a separate SNK game based on the 1996 arcade original. Its listing describes direct arcade play, weapons and vehicles, configurable virtual-pad controls, quick save/load, and online rankings. It is not Infinity restored, nor does it reproduce Infinity’s idle progression. At the time represented by the listing, the US price was $3.99; price and availability can change and may differ by storefront region. Check the current US App Store listing before buying.

Do not confuse Infinity with Metal Slug Attack or Metal Slug Defense, which are other mobile spin-offs. SNK’s official Metal Slug Attack page says that title’s service ended January 12, 2023; its shutdown is separate from Infinity’s reported 2021 service end.

Infinity’s preserved promotional description mentions in-app purchases and says purchases could assist gameplay. It does not establish historical prices, exact purchase contents, whether purchases were necessary, or how balanced progression felt. Current compatibility, stability, advertising, and player experience have not been verified here, so a present-day hands-on verdict or review score would be misleading.
