How to unlock Alonzo
- Reach Imagination Rank 2. Alonzo’s request is gated by this Royal Virtue. Gamer Guides lists conversations with Mustari NPCs and reading New World Travel Diary aboard the Gauntlet Runner as ways to build Imagination, but neither is the only required method. Gamer Guides’ Alonzo bond guide
- Find the Pompous Man in Thoroughfare Square, Martira. Speak with him to begin A Dagger, a Ring, and a Rake.
- Travel to the Abandoned Tomb and retrieve the requested item. Budget two in-game days for this excursion. The target is in the final chest, and the tomb contains mimics, according to the walkthrough.
- Return the item to Alonzo. Completing the request unlocks his Follower Bond and the Faker Archetype.
Because the opening quest consumes time, it is worth starting when your schedule allows rather than treating it as a quick conversation. There is no alternate unlock route established in the available guides.
Alonzo rank requirements and rewards
After the Martira introduction, later meetings take place in Brilehaven. Several require a full free day between meetings, and most are at night; Rank 6 is the daytime exception. Calendar eligibility alone does not bypass story progress or location requirements, so check the Follower menu and in-game availability indicators.

Which Alonzo ranks are most useful?
Ranks 1–6: build Faker and improve its value
Rank 1 opens the Faker Archetype. Ranks 2 and 6 reduce the MAG cost of studying it, while Ranks 3 and 5 expand its inheritance slots from two to three. Rank 4 is the practical economy milestone: it improves magic-shop discounts and request payouts.
Rank 7: reveal ordinary enemy information
Grifter’s Eye displays analysis information for ordinary enemies, which can spare turns otherwise spent discovering weaknesses. It does not cover every encounter: bosses are among the exceptions, so their mechanics still need to be learned in battle.

Rank 8: unlock Trickster
Faker Archetype: Elite unlocks Trickster, and Scion’s Essence raises Faker inheritance capacity to four slots. Rank 8 is available from 9/13, but that date does not replace other story and availability conditions.

- Complete the Martira request when you can spare its two-day tomb excursion.
- Before pushing for Rank 2, reach Wisdom Rank 3. Later, plan for Tolerance Rank 3 at Rank 4 and Courage Rank 5 at Rank 7.
- Use the waiting time between meetings for other free-time activities; most Alonzo events are at night, but Rank 6 is during the day.
- If you want to maximize MAG from dialogue, use the high-MAG answers listed in a walkthrough. Dialogue choices affect MAG rewards, not whether the bond can advance.
Alonzo is optional, and completing the bond asks you to invest across several Royal Virtues as well as spend free days. Start early if his Archetype and rewards fit your build, but expect the rank route to unfold alongside the main story rather than all at once.
