Sogne the Icebound is easiest to handle as a two-phase fight: rely mainly on physical attacks while Rella protects Sogne with Quartz Wall, then switch to fire when Rella leaves. Bring Dekunda for Sogne’s party-wide debuff, Dekaja for its buffs, and enough healing items to preserve MP for the second phase.
Spoiler warning: This guide describes the encounter’s phase transition.
Prepare before the fight
Set your party and inherited skills before triggering the encounter. PC Gamer says its route offers no further opportunity to change the lineup before the battle and suggests restarting from the Gauntlet Runner checkpoint if the party is unsuitable. Treat that as route-specific guidance, not a universal rule; check your own progress and game version.
- Bring a fire attack for the second phase.
- Have Dekunda ready to clear the party-wide debuffs caused by Roar, and Dekaja to remove Sogne’s buffs.
- Pack healing items so you can restore HP without spending too much MP before phase two.
- Prepare a way to prevent or address Frostbite. Siliconera specifically recommends the Pocket Heater, which it says prevents the status.
- Where possible, avoid party members with exploitable Ice, Strike, or Light weaknesses.
There is no single required Archetype lineup: inherited skills let you adapt available characters to these needs. ATLUS describes the game’s combat as turn-based with real-time action and says Archetype powers allow party customization (ATLUS).

Phase one: manage Quartz Wall and Rella
Rella supports Sogne with Quartz Wall, which blocks elemental attacks. The consulted guides say Rella cannot be targeted, so use physical attacks as your dependable damage option while the barrier is active. This can make the first phase longer, but repeatedly spending actions on blocked elemental attacks can cost turn icons without delivering damage.
Choose whether to pressure the barrier
Physical-first play is the straightforward approach while Rella is present. Fire can interact with Quartz Wall, but Rella may reapply it, so weigh the potential disruption against the turn icons spent. PC Gamer describes casting fire as the final action of a turn to encourage Rella to use an action recasting the wall; treat this as a tactic to try, not a guaranteed response.

Undo the stat changes and conserve MP
When Sogne uses Roar to weaken the party, use Dekunda to clear the debuffs. If Sogne buffs itself, use Dekaja to remove those buffs. Favor physical skills and healing items over repeated healing spells when the party can safely manage it: PC Gamer’s guidance emphasizes saving MP because the fight can be long and phase two rewards having fire skills available.
Phase two: use fire against Sogne
When Sogne’s health is depleted for the first time, Rella restores it and then leaves the battle. With her support gone, Quartz Wall is no longer blocking elemental attacks, and the guides identify Sogne as weak to fire. Switch to fire attacks and keep healing as needed.

Sogne remains dangerous after the transition. Watch for its buffs and remove them with Dekaja; PC Gamer also recommends Sukunda to lower Sogne’s hit and evasion. Continue managing Frostbite if it occurs, and avoid spending MP so freely that you lose access to your fire attacks.

| Approach | When it helps | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Physical-first phase one | While Quartz Wall blocks elemental attacks. | Damage is dependable, but the longer fight can mean more incoming attacks. |
| Elemental barrier pressure | If you want to test whether a fire cast will draw Rella into recasting Quartz Wall. | It spends turn icons, and the response is not guaranteed; physical attacks avoid relying on it. |
| Healing items | When preserving MP for phase two matters more than conserving inventory. | Uses items rather than healing magic. |
| Healing magic | When you need to conserve items and can afford the MP cost. | Leaves less MP for fire attacks and other skills later. |
