The free Metro Redux Next-Gen Update is scheduled to arrive on PC on October 22, 2026, followed by consoles on October 29. It updates METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux with 4K textures, platform-specific enhancements and quality-of-life improvements. Deep Silver describes it as an upgrade—not a remaster or remake.
What the Metro Redux update changes
Deep Silver’s announcement promises 4K textures on all platforms, improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio, richer environmental detail, community-reported bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Console players are also promised improved lighting, shadows and particle effects. The publisher describes the work as careful improvements for newer hardware while preserving the original games’ experience and aesthetic.
The announcement does not provide the complete patch notes yet. Exact technical details and platform-specific features beyond those listed in the preview are expected with the launch notes.

Is it a remaster, remake or ray-tracing upgrade?
No. Deep Silver says the update preserves the original Redux experience and aesthetic rather than remaking or fully remastering the games. PLAION’s FAQ also says it is not a port to the current 4A Engine, and explicitly confirms that ray tracing is not supported. The stated scope is a technical and quality-of-life upgrade for modern hardware.
Who gets the update, and does it cost extra?
Existing owners of either or both games receive the update free. New purchases of METRO 2033 Redux and/or METRO Last Light Redux automatically include it. PLAION directs prospective buyers to retailers for current pricing; the FAQ does not specify physical-disc entitlement or steps, so disc owners should not assume eligibility based on the published information alone.
