When does the METRO Redux update release?
Deep Silver announced the release schedule on October 1, 2026. PLAION’s support FAQ clarifies that Windows Store PC launches with consoles, and that Japan has a later release window.

The dates are publisher-announced; PLAION describes availability as worldwide apart from Japan’s later timing. Deep Silver’s announcement and the PLAION FAQ provide the current schedule.
Is the update free, and who gets it?
Owners of either game receive its update free. If you buy METRO 2033 Redux or METRO Last Light Redux, the corresponding update is included automatically; a separate upgrade purchase is not required. The FAQ does not describe a bundle or a requirement to own both games.

Which platforms are supported?
The update is announced for PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch is not included at this time, according to the publisher and support FAQ. The announcement specifies Xbox Series X|S; it does not announce an Xbox One version.
What changes in the Next-Gen update?
Both games retain the Redux experience and aesthetic while gaining visual, audio, performance, and quality-of-life changes intended for newer hardware. Deep Silver lists 4K textures across platforms, improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio, richer environmental detail, community-led bug fixes, and requested quality-of-life improvements. It also describes higher-quality lighting, shadows, and particles, plus hardware tessellation and displacement at runtime on consoles.
PC features
The PC update adds DLSS and spatial audio, alongside the shared visual improvements, fixes, and quality-of-life changes. Full technical details and platform-specific features are scheduled to be included in patch notes at launch; the announcement does not provide system requirements.

PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro features
The announcement identifies PSSR support for PS5 Pro, native support across the PS5 family, DualSense adaptive triggers, and PlayStation Power Saver Mode.
Xbox Series X|S features
Xbox features include native support, with TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing specified for Xbox Series X; spatial audio; Xbox Impulse Triggers; and Power Optimized Mode. Deep Silver also announces Xbox Handheld and Xbox Play Anywhere support.

Deep Silver advertises true 4K at 60 FPS and upscaled 4K at 120 FPS on console, with compatible TV or monitor hardware required for the relevant display modes. These are publisher-stated capabilities, not independently verified results. The announcement does not provide per-console mode details or testing results, so check the launch patch notes for the exact options available on your hardware.

Is this a remaster, remake, or ray-tracing update?
No. Deep Silver says the original Redux experience and aesthetic are preserved and that the work is not a full remaster or remake. PLAION’s FAQ also says the update is not a port to the current 4A Engine, confirms there is no ray tracing, and says there are no current plans to remake or remaster the older titles.
What is confirmed—and what remains unspecified?
The publishers have announced the release schedule, eligible platforms, free-upgrade terms, and headline feature set. Detailed patch notes, exact system requirements, and a complete breakdown of platform-specific performance modes have not yet been published in the materials available for this announcement. Deep Silver says technical patch notes will be revealed at launch.

Deep Silver also says the METRO franchise has sold 50 million copies worldwide; that figure is the publisher’s stated total, not an independently audited sales figure. The announcement separately schedules METRO 2039 for February 4, 2027.
