Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro on December 8, 2025, and its promised PS VR2 support is now available. The free feature arrived with Sim Update 5, version 1.7.27.0, on April 30, 2026. It is the first Microsoft Flight Simulator release on PlayStation, bringing the same 2024 game previously available on PC and Xbox to Sony’s consoles.
From announcement to release: the timeline
- September 24, 2025: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was announced for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro.
- December 8, 2025: The PlayStation version launched.
- April 30, 2026: Sim Update 5 (version 1.7.27.0) added PS VR2 support.

What PS VR2 support includes
The update adds VR graphics settings for PlayStation, headset detection and guidance for switching into VR, VR controller bindings, and changes to cockpit interaction. Microsoft also lists fixes for yoke and collective interaction, cockpit tooltips, separate saved EFB states for VR and non-VR, and an option to hide the HUD in VR cockpit view.
Those details confirm that VR is supported in the PS5 game, but they do not establish identical performance or controller behavior across every aircraft, activity, add-on, or situation. Treat VR quality and comfort as something that can vary with the experience rather than assuming PC-level fidelity or universal optimization.

The update supports both the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro. The Pro is not required for the game or its VR feature, and no particular image-quality or frame-rate advantage should be assumed without a direct comparison. Optional in-game purchases, virtual currency, and paid edition upgrades are also listed. What you need to play
- Console: A PS5 or PS5 Pro.
- For VR: A PS VR2 headset. The game also supports play without the headset.
- Account and connection: The PlayStation Store listing requires a PlayStation account login and a constant internet connection. It says the game streams world content and cannot be launched offline.
- Controls: The listing specifies DualSense features including adaptive triggers, gyro controls, the controller speaker, lightbar, and touchpad. VR controller bindings are included in the update; consult the game’s current control setup for the aircraft and mode you plan to use.
The online requirement matters if you have a data cap, unreliable broadband, or expect to fly during an internet outage. Do not buy it on the assumption that it offers a fully offline launch option.

The PS5 release is the same Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 title, not a separate PlayStation spin-off. Its core pitch includes Free Flight, a Career mode with dynamically generated missions, and the ability to explore outside the aircraft after landing. The game spans aircraft from ultralights and general aviation to balloons, business jets, military transports, and fighters, with world-scale scenery delivered through an internet connection.
The main caveat for players used to PC add-ons is the PlayStation Marketplace. Microsoft said PS5 third-party products are being added in stages and must meet Sony’s platform and performance requirements; some planned products needed adjustments. That means PlayStation users should not assume the PC ecosystem’s breadth, external storefronts, or add-on availability will match on console. If you already play on PC or Xbox, verify the current PlayStation-specific details before assuming that progress, purchases, licenses, or add-ons transfer. Microsoft maintains a PS5 FAQ covering platform questions; cross-play and account behavior should be checked there rather than inferred from the game’s availability on multiple platforms.
Who should consider the PS5 version?
It is a substantial option for console players who want a large-scale aviation simulator without a gaming PC, and for PS VR2 owners interested in seeing the cockpit in VR. Career mode offers structured activities, while Free Flight suits players who would rather choose an aircraft and destination themselves. The standard edition is the entry point; pay more for a higher edition only if its additional aircraft and airports are worth it to you.
It is a less comfortable fit for anyone who needs offline play, expects unrestricted PC-style mods, or wants to avoid optional purchases altogether. Buyers moving from another platform should check transfer rules first, and VR shoppers should factor in the separate headset purchase. No current PS VR2 price is included here because a current price was not verified.
