The standalone Microsoft Rewards app for Xbox was retired, but Microsoft Rewards itself did not end. Xbox-related earning and redemption moved into an integrated Rewards hub and other Microsoft Rewards surfaces. The change began with a reported transition in December 2023; later coverage said the console app was discontinued in April 2024.
What went away—and what did not
The change concerned the Microsoft Rewards app on Xbox consoles. It did not mean that Microsoft Rewards, the Xbox app for Windows, the Xbox mobile app, the Microsoft Store, Game Pass, or players’ existing points were discontinued.
A reported in-app notice said offers would stop appearing in the old app beginning in December 2023, directing players to the Xbox Rewards hub instead. The old app was a way to reach Rewards activities; it was not the Rewards account or points balance itself. Thurrott’s November 2023 report described the planned change based on a circulated notice.
When did the transition happen?
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| November 23, 2023 | A reported in-app notification said offers in the standalone Xbox app would stop appearing beginning in December. Thurrott reported the notice. |
| End of November 2023 | The notice said the app’s existing weekly series would continue through the end of November, then be deactivated there. This was not a statement that every Microsoft Rewards activity would end. |
| December 2023 | The reported transition to the integrated Rewards hub began. This was the planned offer transition, not necessarily the date the app vanished from every console. |
| April 2024 | Later coverage reported that the Xbox Rewards app itself was discontinued. Thurrott’s Microsoft Rewards archive lists the April discontinuation report. |
| 2025 | Microsoft continued describing Rewards activity and access through Xbox surfaces, including the Rewards hub. Xbox’s March 2025 update covered the hub and related features. |
In short, the November 2023 notice described a planned change to offers and the weekly series; the later April 2024 report concerned discontinuation of the app. Those dates describe different stages, not conflicting shutdown dates.

What replaced the standalone app?
Xbox Rewards activity moved into the Rewards hub, an integrated Xbox experience rather than a new separate console app. Microsoft’s later Xbox communications described access through the Xbox profile area on console, the Rewards hub in the Xbox mobile app, and the Xbox app for Windows PC. The general Microsoft Rewards website remains another place to check an account and available redemptions. Microsoft’s January 2025 Xbox Rewards announcement described these supported surfaces.
These surfaces do not promise identical offers or quests. What appears can depend on platform, region, account eligibility, age, and current promotions.

Did players lose points, quests, or their streak?
Existing points
Microsoft said the later gameplay-Rewards changes did not affect existing Rewards or points already earned. The app’s retirement alone was not supposed to erase a player’s account balance. Microsoft’s January 2025 announcement addressed existing points.
The old weekly series
The weekly sequence in the standalone app was specifically scheduled to be deactivated after November 2023. That feature should not be confused with a player’s overall Rewards account, and the evidence does not establish that every old streak or quest continued unchanged in the hub. Later gameplay quests and bonuses are separate activities, not necessarily one-for-one replacements.

Can you still earn and redeem Rewards through Xbox?
Microsoft continued to describe eligible gameplay, Game Pass activities, and purchases as possible ways to earn Rewards points. Which activities are available—and their terms—can change. Microsoft’s January 2025 Xbox announcement said gameplay earning in that update was for players aged 18 and older; it also described certain non-gameplay routes, such as eligible purchases or Bing activities, for younger users. Treat that as a dated rule from that announcement, not a guarantee that every current offer or region has the same requirements. Microsoft’s announcement and its localized terms and availability notice make clear that offers vary and are subject to conditions.
Redemptions such as Xbox gift cards continued to be part of the Rewards ecosystem, and Microsoft described gift-card redemption through the Microsoft Store on console. Catalogs, point costs, and availability vary; there is no single point price or guaranteed Game Pass redemption to assume. Promotions can be limited-time offers. Xbox’s March 2025 update discussed console redemption and a limited promotional gift-card example.

Where to check your balance and find Rewards now
On an Xbox console
Open the Xbox profile area and look for the Rewards hub. Depending on the console software, region, and current layout, Rewards access or redemption may also appear through the Microsoft Store. Menu names and placement can change, so there is no single permanent path that applies to every console version.
On the web or another Xbox surface
Visit Microsoft Rewards to check your account and the redemptions available to you. You can also check the Rewards hub in the Xbox mobile app or Xbox app for Windows where supported. A web offer may not appear on console, or vice versa.

If the Rewards hub or an offer is missing
- Check the signed-in account. Make sure Xbox and the Rewards website are using the Microsoft account whose points you expect to see.
- Check the web dashboard. Visit Microsoft Rewards to see whether the account and balance are available there.
- Update the console or app. An outdated Xbox experience can affect what features are visible.
- Review eligibility. Region, age, account status, platform, and offer terms can affect access. Microsoft has said Rewards offers vary by market and are subject to terms.
- Look for the hub, not the retired app. Reinstalling or searching for the old standalone app is not a way to restore its discontinued weekly series.
If an offer is absent, that does not by itself mean the account is broken: Microsoft can change or withdraw promotions, and its Rewards surfaces do not necessarily show the same activities everywhere.
