Minecraft’s Mounts of Mayhem game drop launched on December 9, 2025, for both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. It is already available, not an upcoming update: Java received version 1.21.11 and Bedrock received version 1.21.130.
The drop adds a tiered spear, Nautiluses for underwater travel, and new Survival encounters involving Zombie Horses. The exact mechanics can differ by edition, so consult the relevant release notes for your version.

When did Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem come out?
Mounts of Mayhem launched on December 9, 2025, for Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. The Java release is version 1.21.11; the Bedrock release is version 1.21.130. Minecraft’s release-date announcement named December 9 as the launch day, and the separate edition-specific notes document the released versions: Java 1.21.11 and Bedrock 1.21.130.
What does the Mounts of Mayhem spear do?
The spear is a new tiered weapon with two attacks: a jab and a charge. Charge damage scales with movement speed, making the attack dependent on how quickly the wielder is moving. The Lunge enchantment adds a burst of speed to a jab.

How do Nautiluses work as mounts?
Nautiluses are intended for ocean exploration. Riding one boosts underwater movement speed and preserves the rider’s existing air supply, helping with travel below the surface. In Java 1.21.11, Nautiluses spawn in ocean biomes and can be tamed with a Pufferfish or a Bucket of Pufferfish, according to the Java release notes.

Zombie Nautiluses
Zombie Nautiluses are hostile encounters rather than ordinary mounts: Java’s release notes describe them spawning with a Drowned rider wielding a Trident. Check the notes for your edition for exact details rather than assuming every Java mechanic carries over unchanged to Bedrock.
What changed for Zombie Horses?
Zombie Horses now appear in Survival encounters. The release-day overview describes zombie horsemen appearing at night in plains and savannahs, while Java 1.21.11 confirms natural spawning. The details are documented in Minecraft’s release-day overview and the Java release notes.

Which edition’s Mounts of Mayhem notes should you use?
Use the changelog for the edition you play. Java 1.21.11 and Bedrock 1.21.130 have separate release notes, so detailed behavior should not be treated as identical unless both sets of notes confirm it.
- Java Edition: Version 1.21.11 release notes.
- Bedrock Edition: Version 1.21.130 release notes.
One Bedrock-specific note: the 1.21.130 changelog says horses, Zombie Horses, donkeys, mules, and camels no longer sink when ridden while swimming. Java’s notes also list Netherite Horse Armor, an upgrade made at a Smithing Table from Diamond Horse Armor.
