To obtain it, complete Millicent’s quest by helping her, use the recovered Unalloyed Gold Needle on the scarlet bloom in Malenia’s arena, then use the resulting Miquella’s Needle in Dragonlord Placidusax’s arena in Crumbling Farum Azula.
What Miquella’s Needle does
The item’s effect is described as “Subdues a once-accepted frenzied flame.” Gamer Guides’ item database reproduces that in-game text. Use it only if you have inherited the Frenzied Flame and want to remove its ending restriction; it is not a general ending-selection item.

Using the needle lifts the lock on the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending. It does not choose another ending for you or satisfy that ending’s requirements, so you still need to meet the conditions for the ending you want.
How to get Miquella’s Needle
The quest has a sequence of distinct steps: help Millicent, recover the Unalloyed Gold Needle, defeat Malenia, and convert the recovered needle in Malenia’s arena. The Unalloyed Gold Needle is not yet Miquella’s Needle.

- Complete Millicent’s quest and assist her at the final summon-sign choice. Do not invade and kill her: that ends this route and gives a different item. The quest route is covered in Gamer Guides’ Millicent quest walkthrough.
- Retrieve the Unalloyed Gold Needle from the quest aftermath after helping Millicent.
- Defeat Malenia and return to her arena.
- Use the Unalloyed Gold Needle on the scarlet bloom in the arena to receive Miquella’s Needle.
Where and when to use it
Take Miquella’s Needle to Dragonlord Placidusax’s arena in Crumbling Farum Azula and select it from your inventory there. The item database says it can be used in the arena without defeating Placidusax. Its lore text explains the location-specific restriction: “the needle is as yet unfinished and can only be used in the heart of the storm beyond time said to be found in Farum Azula.”
In practical terms, use it after inheriting the Frenzied Flame if you want to regain access to other ending routes. The full chain is demanding: Millicent’s quest, Malenia’s defeat, and reaching the arena are all required to obtain and use it.
