Mixtape released on May 7, 2026, so the 2025 date in the original headline is out of date. Developed by Beethoven & Dinosaur and published by Annapurna Interactive, it is a narrative adventure about three friends’ last night together—not simply a rhythm game. Its music-led story moves through playable memories, with a soundtrack that includes artists associated with more than one decade.
What is Mixtape?
Mixtape follows three friends on one final adventure on their last night together. Music connects the story’s memories to dreamlike, playable vignettes. The activities vary: Xbox’s official description mentions skateboarding, flying, taking photos at an abandoned theme park and hitting baseballs. That range is why “narrative adventure” is a better description than “rhythm game.”
The game was developed by Melbourne studio Beethoven & Dinosaur and published by Annapurna Interactive. Annapurna’s official game page uses the tagline “Mixtape – Nothing but the hits.”
What platforms is Mixtape on, and when did it come out?
Mixtape launched May 7, 2026. The date is listed by Annapurna Interactive and the PlayStation and Xbox storefronts, making the 2025 timing in the original headline obsolete.

Xbox Wire described Mixtape as an Xbox Play Anywhere title and said it was playable with Xbox Game Pass at launch. For current subscription-tier eligibility and cloud access, check the Xbox listing rather than assuming terms remain unchanged. Store prices also vary by region and can change; the Xbox U.S. listing showed $19.99 when reviewed, not a guaranteed price across storefronts or dates.
What music is in Mixtape?
Official descriptions name DEVO, Roxy Music, Lush, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division and the Cure, among others. That is a selection of named artists, not a complete tracklist.

- Command up to five desperados and use their lethal skills to stealthily thin out the enemy rows
- Approach each mission with a variety of different solutions and paths
- Resolve seemingly impossible large enemy setups with careful planning and perfectly timed execution of the team's special skills
- Witness the glory of classic Wild West scenarios like frontier towns, desert canyons, Mississippi swamps, sprawling modern cities and many more by day and night
- Defeat your foes choosing between deadly and non-lethal options, stealth and blazing guns and further adjust the game to your playstyle
Calling the soundtrack exclusively “’80s” goes further than the official listings support. Xbox Wire’s June 11, 2025 preview named artists from the game’s music lineup, while the later store pages list artists without claiming the soundtrack belongs to one decade. Tribeca Festival’s 2025 reveal-era description called it a “curated 90s soundtrack.” These descriptions use different shorthand; none establishes an exhaustive, single-decade soundtrack. The safer description is a curated, nostalgia-driven selection spanning artists associated with multiple eras.
The official pages cited here do not provide complete song titles, a licensed-track count or confirmation of a standalone soundtrack release.
