A Brazilian repair and modding team got a badly damaged Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti to produce a display signal by rerouting its power and using voltage-regulator circuitry from an AMD Radeon RX 580. The RX 580 was not a second graphics processor: its VRM hardware supplied power to the Nvidia GPU. The project later evolved into a more extensively modified bench setup, but reports describe an experimental repair—not a card validated for safe, everyday use.
How did the team revive the RTX 5070 Ti?
A burned section interrupted the card’s power circuitry
The team, led by Paulo Gomes with Sidnelson and later collaborators, received an RTX 5070 Ti whose printed circuit board had a large burned and missing area around the voltage-regulator module (VRM). VideoCardz reported that a conventional repair was considered impossible. The reporting does not establish what caused the damage.
The RX 580 supplied power, not graphics processing
Instead of using the Radeon RX 580 to render images, the modders adapted its remaining VRM circuitry as an external power source for the RTX 5070 Ti GPU core. They rerouted power around the damaged area and made extensive circuit changes, including manually soldered and bypassed power paths. Because the two GPUs use different power-management systems, the team had to adapt the donor circuitry, balance current, and watch for heat in the connecting wires.
The first hybrid arrangement initialized and produced a display signal. VideoCardz’s initial account described only light-workload use, not validation under heavy load. Getting a picture was evidence that the modified card could start; it did not establish that it was stable or safe under sustained use.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How did the project change after the RX 580-powered build?
In a later stage, the team replaced the original board arrangement with an ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080 Ti PCB and continued adapting the RTX 5070 Ti setup. This was a further bench configuration, not simply the original RX 580 arrangement running unchanged. VideoCardz reported additional soldered NVVDD, MSVDD, and ground paths, as well as display-signal trouble and a Windows-driver conflict.
The reported progression shows why a successful startup should not be confused with a finished repair:

| Aspect | Initial RX 580-assisted arrangement | Later 2080 Ti PCB arrangement |
|---|---|---|
| Donor hardware | RX 580 VRM circuitry used to power the RTX 5070 Ti GPU core. | ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080 Ti PCB used in the later build; VideoCardz reports added NVVDD, MSVDD, and ground paths. |
| PCIe connection | Not stated in VideoCardz’s initial account. | VideoCardz reported PCIe 4.0 x4 at one stage, then a move to PCIe 3.0 x16. The team described the change as increasing bandwidth from 8 GB/s to 16 GB/s. |
| Voltage stability | Not stated in VideoCardz’s initial account. | Tom’s Hardware reported an initial load voltage drop of about 400 mV, later reduced to about 30 mV. |
| Display and driver behavior | The card initialized and produced a display signal, according to VideoCardz. | VideoCardz reported display-signal problems and a Windows-driver conflict. |
| Thermal behavior | Not stated in VideoCardz’s initial account. | Tom’s Hardware reported a rapid temperature increase from about 50°C to 80°C in one second and a 12V wire approaching 100°C in later testing. |
| Reported benchmark | Not stated in VideoCardz’s initial account. | Tom’s Hardware reported 11,150 points in Unigine Superposition for the later experimental build. |
| Repair complexity | Manual rerouting and circuit modifications using adapted donor VRM hardware, as described by VideoCardz. | Further soldered power and ground paths and troubleshooting, as reported by VideoCardz; a directly comparable measure of repair complexity is not stated. |
The PCIe bandwidth figures above are the team’s stated values as reported by VideoCardz, not an independent measurement of application performance. Changing the link configuration addressed one part of the setup; it did not by itself resolve the reported electrical, display, driver, or thermal issues.
What performance did the modified card achieve?
Tom’s Hardware reported that the team first reached performance it characterized as roughly RTX 3070-level, then reduced the load voltage drop from about 400 mV to about 30 mV. In that later reporting, the experimental card reached a reported 3.23 GHz core clock and 34 Gbps memory bandwidth, and scored 11,150 points in Unigine Superposition. PauloGomesTeam/Igor’sLAB also reported an 11,150-point Superposition result in 2026.

These are results from the modders’ experimental setup as covered by those outlets, not evidence that a retail RTX 5070 Ti normally runs at those conditions or that the modified card is suitable for gaming sessions. The reported heat spikes and hot power wire make that distinction important.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Frankenstein RTX 5070 Ti safe to use?
The published results do not establish that it is safe for routine use. The original RX 580-assisted arrangement was initially reported under light workloads without heavy-load validation. In later testing, Tom’s Hardware described rapid temperature rises, a 12V wire approaching 100°C, and a substantial load-voltage drop that the team worked to reduce. VideoCardz also reported display and Windows-driver problems in the later configuration.

Those observations make this an expert bench experiment and repair demonstration, not a home repair recipe. Recreating it would involve high-current GPU power circuitry, a damaged multilayer board, improvised wiring, and donor hardware with a different power-management design. A display output or benchmark score alone cannot verify safe temperatures, electrical margins, or long-term reliability.
